my wife and i believe my son was diagnosed wrongly with schizophreia, the doctor started a treatment with paxil 10 mg oral, and risperodine 2 mg oral. we are checking for a second opinion, but we are not sure if he should or not keep taking the medicine, is only 7 days since the firts dosis. he is 18 years old, but evrytime he takes it is worts....please any advice,,,,thank you..
He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.
My 3 year old son has been diagnosed with ODD and has been put on risperdal but he is still very violent towards my 11 month old daughter, myself and my mum. He hits, pushes, bites and he also sits on my daughter pusher, pulls her hair and sometimes bangs her head into things. I am at my wits end not knowing what to do.
My 4 year old started risperdal on 28 May for the conditions are above. Will she take it forever or is it a lifetime treatment

It's my understanding that when risperdal is added on to someone's treatment that has adhd, it's often done for aggression? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1257406/ But hyperactivity is also part of what they use it for now. It's rarely the 'main' drug used but an add on. My 10 year old daughter is suffering from PTSD, the Psychiatrist that she is seeing has her on 4 different medicines. These medicines are Prozac 20mg, Kapvay .2mg, Risperdal .5mg, and Imipramine. My question is first is this safe to mix and second what side effects could this mixture cause?
my son was treated for an acute anxiety attack in his university ER with risperdal 4 days ago. he has not been the same ever since. he has had all of the classic signs of toxicity from this drug. he was treated in our local ER (2 days later) with benedryl and adavan and he seemed fine following the treatment. but the dystonic reactions, disorganized thinking, anxiety, all symptoms continue.
Adel dont you think it is wrong to take any anti psychotic as a sleeping aid.I am having lots of sleep problems while tapering from Risperdal but I am not even thinking about taking help of any anti psychotic to sleep. Even my Pdoc says it is wrong to do so as an Anti psychotic should only be used for the purpose it was made for.Incidentally my last dose of Risperdal is on 22nd night.
He was diagnosed with bipolar and then also with ADHD he takes risperdal for bipolar and adderall for adhd. The adderall has been wonderful it really helped a lot the risperdal i am not so sure as he still gets very angry and aggressive he has also been recently diagnosed with social anxiety disorder.
Thanks friend.Maybe I was lucky but I definetely had TD which was why chlorpromazine was discontinued and I did not need any antipsychotic till 3 months back.Thankfully I did not have any TD on Risperdal>Believe me Risperdal is worse than chlorpromazine.It makes a person agitated,nervous and renders a person an insomniac while taking it.I went through the worst and thankfully will be off it in 3 days.
Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage.
I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I just started Invegra 3mg daily which is the new drug in lieu of Risperdal so I will be curious as to how it works. Supposedly, it is just like Risperdal but much more tolerated with less side effects. Maybe something to ask your doc about although I cant comment on personal usage as of yet since it is so new for me.
After taking risperdal over 248mg in total over 7 weeks my penis shrinked rapidly at first I did not know what it was but slowly began to realize its from prolactin in the drug
Will this recover I took some ability which decreases prolactin it made my penis feel better but its still a lot less in length then before

Hi, I had been on Risperdal for about 15 months and I recently stopped taking Risperdal. First of all, my periods which had stopped shortly after starting Risperdal returned and my breasts which were producing milk dried up but now I suffer from insomnia. I sometimes get only 1 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Will this go away on its own?

I am on risperdal and I was wondering what the possible side effects are of smoking marijuana while on this medication.
We have used Risperdal with our 12 year old son in the past, 2nd and 3rd grade, but due to weight gain he had to be taken off it. We had major problems with sleep so when he went off the meds he went back to not sleeping. Then we found Melatonin, it is a god sent. It is a natural supplement that has helped a lot of children with atuism and other disorders that effect sleeping. As for the agression we have tried behavioral programs that help with it.
