I am on risperdal and I was wondering what the possible side effects are of smoking marijuana while on this medication.

If its akathesia or extra pyramidal side effects then your psychiatrist could titrate the anti-psychotics and add a side effect pill to control it. If its tardive dyskinesia such as I have, which can emerge in a variety of forms including tardive dystonia then they would switch you over to Clozaril immediately as it can be very dangerous in advanced forms (such as I have).

I was prescribed 1mg but after reading the horrible stories about the side effects such as lactation, weight gain and zombie head I split my tablets in half. Not perfect halves but close enough. I read more people had less side effects on .5mg. So opinions please?? Nothing puts me to sleep except Tamazepam, which is habit forming and Seroquel makes me comotose on just 25mg so this seemed like an option.

The neurologist put him on risperdal. I just read horrible side effects, like breasts on boys. Is there a more " beginner" drug? Since we see a neurologist instead of child psychologist, I am fearful he doesn't know as much about behavioral medications. Sorry so long.

Risperdal could be causing side effects.It caused a lot of side effects in me and when I got better I had my Pdoc taper it to 0.5 mg and will soon stop it.

Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.

The symptoms you describe could come from Risperdal, in part, but more likely are the outcropping of the underlying anxiety..you should not stop your medication without sorting this out with your doctor.

told me that Effexor may attribute to weight gain, and it DOES state this in the side effects printed from the manufacturer, so your Dr. is incorrect. Do your homework and don't trust all the Doctors, find a good one, and also consider natural health options if you possibly can. Good luck!

Is there any way possible to cut the hunger side-effects? Or any tips to battle the nausea that it causes? Before this whole medicine nonsense was happening, I was trying to lose weight (safely!) and this hunger pain and headaches are making this goal really difficult. But for me any kind of medication is the last resort, especially whilst their brains are growing. All medicines have side effects. Some of the medication prescribed for autism/ADHD can have permanent effects such as tics etc. Also, you don't have a diagnosis yet, so how do they know what to prescribe? This question is in regard to a pre-adolescent boy with autism. I think the problem is more the Risperdal then the Concerta. Side effects listed for Risperdal include - Aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, stiffness or weakness of the arms or legs, tic-like or twitching movements, trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands, trouble sleeping, and twisting body movements. I am being met with resistance and am concerned that the attending physician is completely in the dark about several studies regarding the negative effects of these particular drugs in elderly patients with dementia, or any helpful alternatives. Risperdal is generally sedating rather than activating and Lamictal as well though in higher doses Lamictal can sometimes worsen mania as an occasional side effect though each person responds differently to each medication. Best to discuss these concerns with his psychiatrist so they can adjust and/or change his medication as needed.

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.
