Risperdal side effects depression

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal side effects depression

risperdal

574118 tn?1305135284 "Mood stabilizer" is actually a really bad term because so many researchers have been using different definitions. To some, it means anything that takes out mania, including lithium, anticonvulsants, AAPs, etc. To others, it's only the anticonvulsants that help with bipolar, and they keep AAPs out. Or pick pretty much any permutation of that.
Avatar n tn I am on risperdal and I was wondering what the possible side effects are of smoking marijuana while on this medication.
642393 tn?1227032656 Abilify has a lot of information on the web about side effects and a quick google may work well, always remember that side effects are not all going to happen to you or even likely - Abilify is well liked and fairly safe compared to some of the AP and AC drugs like Geodon and Risperdal.
1625195 tn?1332178662 Is there any way possible to cut the hunger side-effects? Or any tips to battle the nausea that it causes? Before this whole medicine nonsense was happening, I was trying to lose weight (safely!) and this hunger pain and headaches are making this goal really difficult. And the nausea is making day to day tasks harder than the depression was making things. And this is the last round of questions, promise! Its about the Citalopram/Celexa. There is a suit going against Celexa.
Avatar m tn There was one side effect that I read that sort of concerned me aside from the movement side effects. Does the inability to move the eyes always go away or can it be permanent? How long does it take for it to go away if it occurs?
5154541 tn?1366808691 Thanks, for the response for me it works and I don't have any side effects which is good I talked to my therapist and she said as soon as I get any wierd effect to let her know and she'll change it. I've been on it for a month and half.
Avatar n tn Abilify is somewhat different than Risperdal as it is a SDA (Serotonin Dopamine Agonist) and as well it is the least likely out of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain and diabetes and less sedating. If it has helped you better or caused less side effects for you than Risperdal your psychiatrist needs to write a letter documenting why. What you need to do is to call your insurance company and find out how to contest a denial of coverage.
Avatar m tn Abilify can be activating. That is one side effect some people experience. It is less likely statistically than Risperdal to cause this effect but all (currently available) antipsychotics have this potential. See if it improves and if not speak to your doctor about what to do at that point. It would take some time for that effect to pass if you changed medications.
Avatar f tn The neurologist put him on risperdal. I just read horrible side effects, like breasts on boys. Is there a more " beginner" drug? Since we see a neurologist instead of child psychologist, I am fearful he doesn't know as much about behavioral medications. Sorry so long.
337492 tn?1212458836 I have a job interview Monday and I really want it. Anyone have luck on a low dose of Risperdal w/o yucky side effects? I need a reliable sleep aid!
2010625 tn?1329372056 I really dislike medication changes...it is always a roll of the dice to see what it is going to do...
Avatar n tn I think the problem is more the Risperdal then the Concerta. Side effects listed for Risperdal include - Aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, stiffness or weakness of the arms or legs, tic-like or twitching movements, trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands, trouble sleeping, and twisting body movements. The site said to, "Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking risperidone:" talking about those mentioned above.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have tried several different antipsychotics and keep getting bad side effects with them that have been so bad I can't take them. I have been on seroquel, risperdal, geodon, abilify, and currently on latuda. On the latuda if I take more than 40mgs I get akathisia real bad, but on the 40mgs I start rapid cycling. My doc said I could try saphris, but I am sick of trying these antipsychotics. He said then the next option would be to try lithium. I am currently on lamictal 200mgs, latuda 40mgs.
Avatar m tn Not a doc, but the combo of Lexapro and Effexor is pretty odd to me. They both affect serotonin, but Effexor also affects norepinephrine. I can switching from one to the other, but don't understand taking both. You do need to discuss this thoroughly with a psychiatrist, but I'd personally get another opinion if you can for these reasons: This one is just adding meds to meds that don't work. That isn't how augmentation is usually done.
559509 tn?1216180446 Not sure how long she had used it or any side effects which may have occurred (lost touch) She is currently just using lithium and doing well. I didn't see any weight gain side effects when I googled it, and I currently work with many patients who use it and haven't seen it there either. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn Over the years I have taken many different meds. At the beginning of last year I decided that the sedating effects as well as other side effect were hindering my everyday life and relationships. With the help of my doctor, I first went off of my Lithobid. I was amazed at the difference I felt. I felt like I was coming out of a fog! I was very encouraged, and decided to try to go off of my other meds as well.
Avatar m tn I would talk to your doctor about this to get input. because remember, that all drugs also have side effects. For some, you might even see an increase in tics. All of these types of medications can be fantastic but also need to be used with caution in a trial and error fashion to find the best match for you. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3036957/ Personally, I would much rather try a drug for tics like risperdal than the older meds like haldol! But work with your doctor!
Avatar f tn I have read on message boards that some people have had to go to hospital for supervised withdrawal of the drugs due to risk of seizures and other terrifying side effects. In my case it was definitely necessary for me to be put on xanax because I was completely unable to function, but now that I have been on it for years (a different story), it is doing me more harm than good. Look up the cognitive effects of xanax.
Avatar n tn The insert for the medication should tell you whether or not you can consume alcohol. Also your pharmacist or doctor should be able to tell you. My meds Abilify and Lamictal say no, but I splurge and have a couple drinks (1-2) once every 1-2 weeks. My doctor knows this, be honest with yours, it is a quality of life issue afterall.
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
Avatar n tn Risperdal could be causing side effects. It caused a lot of side effects in me and when I got better I had my Pdoc taper it to 0.5 mg and will soon stop it.
Avatar m tn Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.
Avatar f tn Well, seizures are one of the side effects of risperdal and can occur any time after starting the medication. However, if they have started after eight years of medications, other causes too should be looked into. You may need an EEG. Please consult your doctor regarding this immediately. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
886552 tn?1241590297 Someone I now was on the same medication because of being diagnosed with schizophrenia. He had side effects like you describe. Turns out he was misdiagnosed and is now off the meds. He no longer has any of the symptoms and is perfectly fine. He was on the meds. only 6 months however. So if you feel you are in a similar situation, I encourage you to discuss it with your doctor and see if the meds. are really needed. Never just stop taking meds. though.
