I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).
Well, seizures are one of the side effects of risperdal and can occur any time after starting the medication. He has a history of severe aggression and rage as well as seizures. He has been on a variety of medications over the past two years to try and control his behavior. Recently he developed facial tics that, after research, look like tardive dyskinesia. Naturally this has me VERY worried, especially about the permanence of this problem. The only thing I can think of that might have caused this was Seroquel. He took it at bed time for about two years. I am wondering if this is a plausible cause.
He has been diagnosed by a pedatric neurologist as having complex partial seizures with a recommendation starting on lamictal for the seizures. Is this combination of drugs safe? I have read about the serious side effects of lamictal and about possible drug interactions between lamictalan resirdone. What side effects should we expect and which ones pose a danger to our child?
Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. After extensive treatment we were told that he would possibly have side affects from this. At the age of 2 1/2 he started having seizures and was put on kepra and respidal. He is now 5 and weighs 119 lbs. We are having major behavioral problems with him. He has a 3 year old brother and 17 month old sister. He refuses to stay at home with his mother and father and exhibits anger when they come to visit. Any help would be greatly appreciated, we are at the point of not knowing what to do.
I just started Invegra 3mg daily which is the new drug in lieu of Risperdal so I will be curious as to how it works. Supposedly, it is just like Risperdal but much more tolerated with less side effects. Maybe something to ask your doc about although I cant comment on personal usage as of yet since it is so new for me.
After taking risperdal over 248mg in total over 7 weeks my penis shrinked rapidly at first I did not know what it was but slowly began to realize its from prolactin in the drug
Will this recover I took some ability which decreases prolactin it made my penis feel better but its still a lot less in length then before

Hi, I had been on Risperdal for about 15 months and I recently stopped taking Risperdal. First of all, my periods which had stopped shortly after starting Risperdal returned and my breasts which were producing milk dried up but now I suffer from insomnia. I sometimes get only 1 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Will this go away on its own?

I am on risperdal and I was wondering what the possible side effects are of smoking marijuana while on this medication.
Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.
We have used Risperdal with our 12 year old son in the past, 2nd and 3rd grade, but due to weight gain he had to be taken off it. We had major problems with sleep so when he went off the meds he went back to not sleeping. Then we found Melatonin, it is a god sent. It is a natural supplement that has helped a lot of children with atuism and other disorders that effect sleeping. As for the agression we have tried behavioral programs that help with it.

I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
How in the world would risperdal help someone that has anxiety alrdy and then stopped using opiates and got double anxiety help.
The neurologist put him on risperdal. I just read horrible side effects, like breasts on boys. Is there a more " beginner" drug? Since we see a neurologist instead of child psychologist, I am fearful he doesn't know as much about behavioral medications.

HI I was also on 4mg of xanex and got weened off they dropped the xanex slowly to about 1/2 of the original dose then put me on the clonipine but at a small dose then slowly trasfered going down on the xanex a little every 2 weeks and up on the clonapine evey 2 weeks till I was on the clonipine then they ween mew off the clonipine they do it that way because the clonipine is a long lasting (12-18HR) so its ezer to come off of the whole process took around a yr to do it wasent comfortable but it
I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night.
What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?

We are very new to this, but my question is my loved one has been on Depakote and Risperdal for 8 days now and the mood stabilizer seems to be working great, completely stable in moods but still in the hospital. My concern is that the delusions are still there and even getting worse. Could it be the confinement or is there another medication to address this. What is the Risperdal supposed to address. Are there medications available to address the delusions?
