Risperdal seizures

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal seizures

risperdal

Well, seizures are one of the side effects of risperdal and can occur any time after starting the medication. However, if they have started after eight years of medications, other causes too should be looked into. You may need an EEG. Please consult your doctor regarding this immediately. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
I take care of mentally dissabuled adults in group homes. I have a girl that takes both the depakote is for seizures and the risperdal is for her dpression and mood dissorder. There isn't much you can do for behaviors. Yes some are side affects from the drug but with out the drugs it would be 10 times worse.
I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).
On Dec 19th she was taken off Risperdal after 5 yrs due to a possible pituitary tumor, MRI showed all normal. She was lactating and missing periods. They upped her seroquel from 200 ml to 1200ml and it seems to handle the rages. Once the risperdal was stopped several months later no lactating and periods returned. She also dropped 55 lbs. Keppra was added as well as clonazepam.
Some kids I know are also on meds that target brain function (taken off label) or seizures. I am sure that other members of this group may be more knowledgeable about this and have first or second hand experience. Maybe they can give you a better answer.
He has a history of severe aggression and rage as well as seizures. He has been on a variety of medications over the past two years to try and control his behavior. Recently he developed facial tics that, after research, look like tardive dyskinesia. Naturally this has me VERY worried, especially about the permanence of this problem. The only thing I can think of that might have caused this was Seroquel. He took it at bed time for about two years. I am wondering if this is a plausible cause.
went back to the doctor and they now have me on depakote, clonazepam, risperdal, amd benztropine.now i',m wondering if i should just get off all these meds.
Risperdal (the brand name for risperidone) is not a veterinary drug, however studies have been done on Beagles for the drug. Overdose symptoms include lethargy, weakness, muscle tremors, ataxia and seizures. It is too late at this point to induce vomiting, so if you absolutely will not take him to a vet, you need to watch him closely for any of the symptoms I listed above. If you see them, you need to not eat for a week if necessary, but you MUST take him to a vet or you will lose him.

He has been diagnosed by a pedatric neurologist as having complex partial seizures with a recommendation starting on lamictal for the seizures. Is this combination of drugs safe? I have read about the serious side effects of lamictal and about possible drug interactions between lamictalan resirdone. What side effects should we expect and which ones pose a danger to our child?
I had a slightly better sense of well being and the vivid nightmares were reeduced. 6 days after being put on the risperdal, however, I had a grand mal seizure at work whilst teaching. I had taken 25mg of adderall that day. The night before I had taken 15mg restoril, 30mg lexapro and 0.25mg risperdal. MY stress level was extremely high that day with general feelings of being out of control and unable to keep up during the general time frame of a few weeks.
, and then Risperdal, 1 mg. I began to taper my stimulant, and ran into heavy problems. My psychiatrist put me back on Risperdal, and change Lamictal to Lithium. I experienced intense ringing in my ears. I thought it must be the Lithium, so I stopped it after 1 week. I waited and waited, and the ringing still persisted. I thought it must be the Risperdal, so I stopped it. Waited and waited and still incredible, intense ringing. My psychiatrist won't deal with me.
MY NIECE, WHO WAS "DEVELOPMENTALLY DELAYED" AND AUTISTIC RECENTLY PASSED AWAY. SHE WAS TAKING RISPERDAL AND GEODON. HER "TICS" SEEMED TO BE WORSE 2 DAYS BEFORE, AND SHE WAS HAVING TROUBLE CONTROLLING EYE/MOUTH/FACIAL MUSCLES, AND TREMBLING SO HARD SHE COULD BARELY EAT. ALSO MY DAD HEARD HER SAY SHE WAS "HURTING HERE", POINTING IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF HER CHEST. TWO DAYS LATER, SHE WOKE UP WITH SEIZURES, WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO HOSP.
My son has been diagnosed with organic personality disorder and shizophrenia, paranoid type as a result of a severe brain injury. He is on risperdal, geodone, lithium and depakote, buspirone, fluoxotine. The psychotic and personality symptoms are minimized by this combination, but he seems SOOOO tired all the time. He is also complaining having a much harder time remembering things. I agree with his observation. His short term memory does seem appreciably poorer recently.
After extensive treatment we were told that he would possibly have side affects from this. At the age of 2 1/2 he started having seizures and was put on kepra and respidal. He is now 5 and weighs 119 lbs. We are having major behavioral problems with him. He has a 3 year old brother and 17 month old sister. He refuses to stay at home with his mother and father and exhibits anger when they come to visit. Any help would be greatly appreciated, we are at the point of not knowing what to do.
Just had 4 seizures 2 days ago. Observed by nurse. Prolonged postictal period. Slept for 5 hours afterwards. Son is on 1200mg Trileptal. Also taking .75mg Risperdal. How come 2 different drs state totally opposite things. Also, what type of epilespy is this?? What lobe of the brain is the left central region?? Thanks!

He is currently taking carbitrol for seizures, celexa for depression and recently started a low dose of risperdal for agression. He also is prescribed lorezpam for breakthru seizures as needed. He frequently spaces out and complains of seizure activity. My question is how do I tell the difference between neurological symptoms vs. psychiatric symptoms? Could his rages be seizure related?
Hello my friend. But we are forgetting to mention you are taking about half the dose the doctor ordered you to take. I know it makes you feel sleepy. But he is just doing that for a while so you feel no withdrawls from the tablets you came off of. Xanax shouldn't make you feel depressed. Unless you suffer from depression? Or have done in the past. It is winter. You are going through a bad time. You are bound to be feeling down. Low in self esteem and the likes.
Could anyone please help if you have had the same probs? My meds are Paxil 40mg, welbutrin 300, risperdal 1mg, and klonopin 1 mg. Thanks!

The doctor told us that the hyperthyroidism unmasked a bipolar disorder, and ever since then she has been treated with Risperdal. It is now 10 years later and ahe is still suffering from the hallucinations. She says the things she hears sound like electricity popping and voices talking. And sometimes they are threatning to her. Her prior endocronologist is no longer in practice, and the doctor she has now sees no reason for her to stop taking the risperdal.

My son was on Risperdal at age 3 for sleep. He also had Epilepsy and was on Neurotin, Depakote & clonedine to relax him. By age 5 he was diagnosed with Akathisia and Tardive Dyskinesia, He also has Torticollis and Dystonias. He was removed from Risperdal and Clonedine and now is currently only on Keppra for seizures. My question is this: He is now 10 years old and still suffering with the effects of Tardive and most recently developed complex tics.
You did not provide information on why your friend has been taking Risperdal and Depakote. Risperdal (Risperidone) is an antipsychotic that is used primarily for hallucinations and delusions. The hallucinations or delusions can be part of a number of disorders including Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive disorder, Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorder. Depakote is indicated for seizures but has also been found to be beneficial for Bipolar (manic-depressive) patients.
I so appreciate this site and the advice as I am trying to go off of xanax and was put on Risperdal .25 and it is keeping me awake. I want to go natural with the Risp as well. Need a alternative. Tks so much.
The rapid or abrupt withdrawal from these antidepressants can produce suicide, mania, seizures, psychotic breaks, etc. at an even greater rate than while on the drugs. Extreme caution MUST be taken. Here are the suicide rates. Keep in mind as you read through these that the rate of 11 out of 100,000 persons per year is the suicide rate for the population at large.
