my 4 year old with autism was on risperdal, he had some levels run high so his dr decided to switch him to Tenex...he took his last risperdal 1mg tablet 3 times/day on friday night 11-12-10...he started the tenex 1/2 of a 1mg tablet twice/day saturday morning. since sunday he has been very irritable and aggressive, with very frequent outburst of screaming constantly, hitting himself in the head and bitting, pinching, hitting, kicking, pushing, and scratching himself and others...
I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
My roommate has been going on a psychotic episode for 4 weeks now. She was a functioning meth and marijuana user and didn't show any signs of psychosis until recently. Around the new year, she quit using meth for about 2 weeks. She then started using again, but not that much; maybe a couple times in a day or when she was tired. She more regularly smoked marijuana (MJ) because she says it helps her handle her anxiety.
incidentally the reason you found risperdal awful is either the dose was high or it interacts with your tegretol.

I am Ok and am on Tegretol as a mood stabilizer and encountered plenty of side effects from Risperdal like lethargy,dullness so He decided to take it off me.I wonder how long this will go on.I wonder how long this will go on.Hope it stops earlier than 2 weeks as you suggested.I have Three days left before I stop the Risperdal and will be happy to be off it.
stopping Risperidone (Risperdal) too quickly may be the reappearance of symptoms.
i remember to have read somewhere that you need 3 weeks to taper off from risperidone but i don't recall the dose from which you start going down. so i presume 1 week is ok from 1mg till 0.5mg or better give it 2 weeks maximum.
I responded relatively well to Risperdal. It is rare although not unknown that it can cause any form of heart arrythmia (this can happen with all the atypicals) but if you mean lowering blood pressure that is different and that can happen with all antipsychotics and is generally of less concern. Orthostatic hypertension (having difficulty when suddenly standing) can happen with all antipsychotics for example.
I have a little swelling but head is really clear and not manic....yet....New one..yes old but new to me....Risperdal 1mg @ bed and he will increase it next visit just getting me level as possible first. Pdoc gave me a pill for side effects, most common, shakes.....I've had this before and as long as it does not inhibit my life too much, I'll deal with it....I am shaking a little....the side effect drug is...Benztropine Mes 1mg.
Ever since I was put on risperdal(3mg a day), I have been extremely fatigued. At first I thought it was due to the ECT's, but it's been a year and a half, and I don't feel any better. I keep telling my psych doc, but he says I just need to get a job and that it's in my head. Have you ever heard of fatigue(physical, not mental) as a side affect of risperdal? Or lamictal, for that matter?

So yesterday Abilify(2mg in am) was added to my 600mg(3002xd)Lithium, 1mg(1xd)Xanax and of course 50mg(1/2 or 1@bedtime)..Has anyone had any experience with Abilify?f it's something bad..nevermind.

His pdoc was right in writing an antipsychotic because you said he had a strong mania and psychosis. Of course the lethargy is due to the risperdal, i am on 1mg for 7 years and it makes me tired, but of course better than been psyc.
You said he takes the full dose, risperdal therapeutic dose is 2-16mg, and i can't believe he can survive the max dose, i once took 3 and couldn't stand it.
my fiance has been on 1mg of Risperadel between 4-7 months. he thought it was prescribed to help him sleep. Also takes Zoloft, Lamictal,and is on the methadone clinic. He has gained about 40+ pounds and after researching this medication he has had many of the side effects including, light-headedness when going to an upright position, severe heartburn, constipation, blurred vision. He called his doctor to ask about pain he was having in his breasts and was sent for blood work.

They also will continue after you stop Risperdal (or any antipsychotic for that matter) with what are known as withdrawal dyskinesia. All of this will go away but of course the psychosis it is treating will return. If you are diagnosed with tardive dyskinesia Clozaril is still an option. Have your psychiatrist do a movement disorders test and if things to be of concern ask them to refer you to a movement disorders specialist but its never a good idea to discontinue medication on your own.
He was recently hospitalized (for the 3rd time) for threatening to kill himself, and refusing to go to school ( he would become violent with the staff at the school when they would try to make him stay and would threaten to kill himself there as well). He is on 25mg of Zoloft at bedtime and 2mg of Risperdal twice a day. I actually have two questions,
1. Is Zoloft safe for children his age?
