The psyciatrist said it was an effect of her taking thyroxine.She was prescribed Risperdal but has since stopped taking this & her condition is begining to return.She is starting to believe that everybody is plotting against her and that everything that happens is directed at her.Does this sound a corrct diagnosis.will it continue to worsen & what will he final outcome be if she continues to believe there is nothing wrong & refuses to take any medication.

Melleril made Roslyn very dopey, and we could see that this drug had undesirable side-effects, including weight gain.
Counselling with Psychiatrist Dr. Lind possibly for 6 months

I don't think risperdal is an addictive drug. You're thinking of the withdrawal symptoms people can suffer when stopping some of these meds, but I have no personal experience with that drug. I do know it can cause some unwanted side effects, so if you don't think these drugs are right for what's ailing you the sooner you stop the better, but don't stop them abruptly -- taper off.
I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs. With Wellbutrin, I had a psychotic break that manifested itself in extreme, delusional paranoia. It wasn't pretty. With Celexa, I cycled much harder; it really wasn't until I ditched the Celexa completely that my moods stopped swinging dangerously. My moods still swing, but no where near as bad as they were with Celexa.
Of course the child is going to have paranoia. His paranoia is probably well justified. Think about it. He is getting into trouble a lot, probably making scenes etc. etc. What do people do? Talk! Kids are whispering about why he is acting out, and teachers are angry that he is so disruptive, so are more likely to punish him for smaller things that may have been let go with a different child.
I don't think this is a matter of paranoia at all.
Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage.
I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
I just started Invegra 3mg daily which is the new drug in lieu of Risperdal so I will be curious as to how it works. Supposedly, it is just like Risperdal but much more tolerated with less side effects. Maybe something to ask your doc about although I cant comment on personal usage as of yet since it is so new for me.

WhenI was in ninth grade and was about 14 years old I developed paranoia. Had non-bizzare delusions. Had cameras at home but no hallucination. Also got rejected by my friends. Serious social anxiety occured. During exams I had depression, sleep deprivation, stress, bad-diet. And then I totally lost my cognition. And a period of Mania occured.
Went to a doctor, said, Schizophrenia. Then I was on some antipsychotic drugs - Olanzapine(Zyprexa) and Zuclopentixol (Clopixol).
After taking risperdal over 248mg in total over 7 weeks my penis shrinked rapidly at first I did not know what it was but slowly began to realize its from prolactin in the drug
Will this recover I took some ability which decreases prolactin it made my penis feel better but its still a lot less in length then before

Sweating, anxiety attacks,hallucinating, rapid heart especially at night, paranoia, insomnia, staying busy, rapid impulses, fear of death and being alone, talking to god and seeing signs that arent there, i get a wierd nerve sensation under my forehead/nose sometimes after i eat. Any ideas would help, i was fairly a normal person until this and i dont understand it.???
Spouse taking Seroquel, Lithium, & Geodon. Auditory hallucinations & delusions began about a month ago with no prior history of mental illness (we've been together 14 years). Hi, I had been on Risperdal for about 15 months and I recently stopped taking Risperdal. First of all, my periods which had stopped shortly after starting Risperdal returned and my breasts which were producing milk dried up but now I suffer from insomnia. I sometimes get only 1 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Will this go away on its own?

I am on risperdal and I was wondering what the possible side effects are of smoking marijuana while on this medication.
Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.
We have used Risperdal with our 12 year old son in the past, 2nd and 3rd grade, but due to weight gain he had to be taken off it. We had major problems with sleep so when he went off the meds he went back to not sleeping. Then we found Melatonin, it is a god sent. It is a natural supplement that has helped a lot of children with atuism and other disorders that effect sleeping. As for the agression we have tried behavioral programs that help with it.

I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
