Risperdal (the brand name for risperidone) is not a veterinary drug, however studies have been done on Beagles for the drug. Overdose symptoms include lethargy, weakness, muscle tremors, ataxia and seizures. It is too late at this point to induce vomiting, so if you absolutely will not take him to a vet, you need to watch him closely for any of the symptoms I listed above. If you see them, you need to not eat for a week if necessary, but you MUST take him to a vet or you will lose him.

What I have made of it so far, which is relevant to this conversation, is that the extreme and prolonged emotional and psychological strain that occurred during the two year build up caused the illness to kick itself up a notch, possibly permanently. All the symptoms of bp2 are now more pronounced than they ever were. Since the overdose, my brain and speach are definitely slower. The stress progressed the illness in me to a new level.
ok, in March, I was hotpitalized for a week due to my schizoaffective dirorder being out of control. They put me on risperdal and the next morning, I fainted, and hit my chin on the floor. They almost gave me stiches. Ever since then, I have not felt right. I feel like my head is going to float away, but yet, I don't feel dizzy. My apetite has gone down. I eat but still feel weak. I got my thyroid, b12, iron, cell count, glocose tested and all those are fine.

He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night.
What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
We just increased both of them as he has been having problems and school and has been oppositional at home. It seems like a few of those meds are treating the same symptoms (abilify, risperdal and intuniv). My son has tried all of them, but not at the same time. Hope you get the help you are looking for. patients usually confuse symptoms like extrapyramidal effect and akathisia with TD which is rare with the atypical AP's.
Incidentally i take 1mg risperidal for 7 years now and had no problem from it. In fact this is the 1st atypical. this is why pdocs write it always.

Any psychiatropic medications such as Risperdal should be tapered and weaned off slowly and I would never undergo this without a directive from your doctor. Symptoms of withdrawel from risperdal can be uncomfortable--- insomnia, hallucinations, irritability, etc. The key is to wean slowly to either make these symptoms less or to not experience them at all. Cold turkey is not the way to go.
I was on a tapering dose of 0.5 mg of Risperdal and had a week left to stop it but due to a lot of anxiety I took an additional 1 mg dose of Risperdal today.Does it mean that I have to start from scratch and again take an extra week"s 0.5 mg to complete 2 weeks at 0.5 mg or is it alright for me to continue to taper and stop Risperdal after 7 days as advised by my Psychiatrist.My Psychiatrist is out of town and is unavailable.
Well doctor gave me 2mg risperdal. At the beginning i was ok. When i start to worry little bit i started to get ill. I was disable to concentrate on my work. Later i took seroquel 300mg which i took in past and found some freshness. I was smooth on seroquel but when doctor start changing medicine from seroquel to risperdal , slowly disaster begin on my life. I miss 2 jobs. Which was so easy. Later i took the seroquel back i felt some relief now.
Yes, risperdal is commonly added when someone is diagnosed with adhd. What symptoms did you have prior to the adhd? What kind of testing did you have? Any issues when ON medication should be brought to the attention of the doctor who prescribed it. That's really important. And also letting them know about any other meds you take from any different care providers.

I don't think risperdal is an addictive drug. You're thinking of the withdrawal symptoms people can suffer when stopping some of these meds, but I have no personal experience with that drug. I do know it can cause some unwanted side effects, so if you don't think these drugs are right for what's ailing you the sooner you stop the better, but don't stop them abruptly -- taper off.

I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I just started Invegra 3mg daily which is the new drug in lieu of Risperdal so I will be curious as to how it works. Supposedly, it is just like Risperdal but much more tolerated with less side effects. Maybe something to ask your doc about although I cant comment on personal usage as of yet since it is so new for me.
My roommate has been going on a psychotic episode for 4 weeks now. She was a functioning meth and marijuana user and didn't show any signs of psychosis until recently. Around the new year, she quit using meth for about 2 weeks. She then started using again, but not that much; maybe a couple times in a day or when she was tired. She more regularly smoked marijuana (MJ) because she says it helps her handle her anxiety.
He was released with 2000 mg of Depakote and 2mg of Risperdal daily. He is doing quite well except for having to be hospitalized for a minor surgery and a temp, which during this time the depakote and risperdone were held for three days. Just before being added back he began to show symptoms of the delusions again, after being back on meds none whatsoever. My question is he doesn't seem to be typical Bipolar, never has had the depressions part only the manic, psychotic phase.
