risperdal off patent

now my question....is this permanent? The doc took me off the risperdal last month. my last shot waS ON AUGUST 11TH. When will this end? Will i ever get my emotions back? How long is this supposed to last? i am only 41, i am supposed to have a good life ahead of me, but now i feel like it has ended. I used to have a lot of fun, playing my guitar, listening to music, chillin with friends, and shopping and whatever else.

Phenytoin (Dilantin et al) works best with me. It's off patent and about 70 years on the market. Low doses best. These repetitive thoughts are a brain electrical problem (inappropriate electrical activity), and while not as intense a problem as epilepsy, they can be treated the same way. I take 50 - 100 mg as a dose and it smoothes those intrusions and does NOT make me tired or have noticeable side effects except feeling normal.

I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks

I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08

My son has tourette syndrome. He has intermittent explosive disorder. He explodes, and then, when sent to " get himself together" he comes back fine. After he explodes, he will run and hide to give himself time to recoup. (A problem at malls and other social situations. He is eight, and now he's having problems at school. Everyone agrees he's great after regaining control, he just can't seem to anticipate what sets him off.

Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.

At the time in which she was beginning the Risperdal she had been off her bipolar meds for sometime. Not sure how long she had used it or any side effects which may have occurred (lost touch) She is currently just using lithium and doing well. I didn't see any weight gain side effects when I googled it, and I currently work with many patients who use it and haven't seen it there either. Good luck to you.

We have used Risperdal with our 12 year old son in the past, 2nd and 3rd grade, but due to weight gain he had to be taken off it. We had major problems with sleep so when he went off the meds he went back to not sleeping. Then we found Melatonin, it is a god sent. It is a natural supplement that has helped a lot of children with atuism and other disorders that effect sleeping. As for the agression we have tried behavioral programs that help with it. I waited a few months to make sure that going off of the Lithobid did not worsen any of my syptoms, and then started a long process of going off of my Risperdal. I was taking 4mg and over about 5-6 months I slowly got off of that as well. I had been very apprehensive about what problems might arise without the Risperdal. In the past I have had a lot of problems with anxiety and manic phases.

He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.

I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.

Any psychiatropic medications such as Risperdal should be tapered and weaned off slowly and I would never undergo this without a directive from your doctor. Symptoms of withdrawel from risperdal can be uncomfortable--- insomnia, hallucinations, irritability, etc. The key is to wean slowly to either make these symptoms less or to not experience them at all. Cold turkey is not the way to go.

t live with me anymore if she keeps on doing drugs. So, she left, and she went completely off the risperdal for about 3 days now. And, as I figured, she is currently in the hospital because of an episode. The people that she decided to "hang with" are enablers so they let her go cold turkey on the risperdal even though I told them that she could get psychotic if she does. I was on a tapering dose of 0.5 mg of Risperdal and had a week left to stop it but due to a lot of anxiety I took an additional 1 mg dose of Risperdal today.Does it mean that I have to start from scratch and again take an extra week"s 0.5 mg to complete 2 weeks at 0.5 mg or is it alright for me to continue to taper and stop Risperdal after 7 days as advised by my Psychiatrist.My Psychiatrist is out of town and is unavailable.

I took risperidone (risperdal) off and on for many years. It helped calm down my irritation, anger and psychotic symptoms--hallucinations and delusions. I started on a small dose 1 mg then 2mg. I climbed to 6 mg until my prolactin level went way past 1000, and my gynecologist went up in arms about it because it completely stopped my menstruation. It got lowered to 4 mg.

To you all. Forget the movement problems. If my doctor had not taken me off it, I may not be here. I wrote suicidal poetry, and you all know I am an advocate against suicide. On a one to ten I was an eight. I am now fine and w/o any antidepressant, currently. But this med was scary and could have cost me more than shakes.

Right now I am almost off Risperidone for a similar episode(duration for 6 weeks).I feel better at 0.5 mg dose and will be off Risperdal in a few days.

I may have to go off my Risperdal. My doctor is checking my hormone levels because my periods have stopped and I am lactating. He said if my hormone levels are high I can either add Abilify or replace the Risperdal altogether. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any medications that I could replace the Risperdal with. I don't go see my psychiatrist for another 2 months.
