Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal normal dose

risperdal

Avatar n tn I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night. What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
Avatar f tn Tapering a dose is almost always neccesary. Its just you were on the minimum dose of Risperdal at a highly sublinical level so they may have thought it safe to stop it as its hard to divide that small a pill into two. However, in discontinuing it the symptoms may have returned. Let us know how you are doing now.
Avatar m tn I was hospitalized again and put on a higher dose of risperdal, and later ended up getting a 25 mg shot every 2 weeks. this went on for nearly 3 months. i have been up to 4 mg while on the tablets. Either the risperdal, or the bipolar has flattened my emotions.I get no pleasure out of life anymore. I am currently on depakote and seroquel, but got doubts on the seroquel, cause i hear bad things about all antipsychotics. now my question....is this permanent?
Avatar m tn should the 2mg dose of Risperdal taken am or pm? Problem with falling asleep. Other meds, 600 mg Lithium 2x a day and 1000 Depakote 2 times a day.
Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Avatar m tn I was on a tapering dose of 0.5 mg of Risperdal and had a week left to stop it but due to a lot of anxiety I took an additional 1 mg dose of Risperdal today.Does it mean that I have to start from scratch and again take an extra week"s 0.5 mg to complete 2 weeks at 0.5 mg or is it alright for me to continue to taper and stop Risperdal after 7 days as advised by my Psychiatrist. My Psychiatrist is out of town and is unavailable.
337492 tn?1212458836 So, I am doing awsome on Wellbutrin and Lithium and have not gone manic, but I am not sleeping at all! So, I thought adding a low dose of Risperdal is a good move? I was prescribed 1mg but after reading the horrible stories about the side effects such as lactation, weight gain and zombie head I split my tablets in half. Not perfect halves but close enough. I read more people had less side effects on .5mg. So opinions please??
Avatar n tn I was put on geodon after risperdal too. The risperdal was causing weight gain that I was not comfortable with. The geodon has worked fine although I am now weaning off it too. At first I was taking 160mg a day. Now I'm down to 60mg a day. I'm starting to go down a little lately but I don't know if it's from the decreased dose of geodon or not. I'm weaning off of all my meds right now.
Avatar m tn Risperdal is an anti-psychotic but that's a subclinical dose so perhaps your psychiatrist prescribed it for panic attacks but I haven't heard of it for that use though it may have some effects. There is no particular interaction between the two medications. If it helps then see what happens. At that small dose there shouldn't be many problems and at any dose those two medications can be used together safely.
Avatar f tn I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
Avatar n tn Even my Pdoc says it is wrong to do so as an Anti psychotic should only be used for the purpose it was made for.Incidentally my last dose of Risperdal is on 22nd night.
1516809 tn?1345082764 My mother is currently in the hospital now for a week, and the Psychiatrist has increased the dose to 2 mg a day. He tells me that this is a low dose but I keep obsessing over the mortality issue. Aside from the Dementia, my mother is in decent health except for COPD, and does not require oxygen. Could someone shed some light on this subject, and the dosage, as it has created much anxiety for me despite her beginning to positively respond.
Avatar f tn The past year or so though hes been showing signs of ADD or ADHD. His Dr has prescribed him Risperdal because and medication isnt something she just randomly hands out so I know he needs it. I just have a few questions that wont be answered until he sees another Dr which I am waiting for a referral to. My questions are: Whats the difference between ADD/ADHD? How will I be able to tell if the Risperdal is having a positive effect or a negative effect and how soon will I know of either?
Avatar m tn We weaned off the risperdal and I started geodon about 10 days ago, real low dose 20mg. I was okay for a bit,,,of course I'd been okay while I was off everything too until I wasn't. (Kind of like it always rains after a dry spell, being okay till you weren't anymore) So anyway I started the geodon. A few days into it, my wife asked me if I was okay. I was a little talky,,not sleeping much yada yada. Then today I got depressed and was hiding from everyone in my closet.
898530 tn?1268618782 The Neurologist just started her on Risperdal Tabs 0.5mg but after reading the possible side affects and all the other information, I am a bit worried. Has your child taken this drug and improved or benefited from it? I'd love for you to share your experiences and story with me if possible. Hoping this will really work but I am a bit anxious. Hope to hear from you! Take Care, Kimmys Mom.
1142551 tn?1264736930 My son was prescribed risperdal a few months ago, but just in this past week after his psych eval. and really hurting his younger brother I have decided to go with it. I wanted it to be a last resort. I have tried dieting, prescribed sleep aids because I thought he was tired (he hardly slept), schedules, pictures, everything. And the aggression just got worse. Like I said the risperdal was a lqst resort. He will be 4 in Sept. and his dose is .
Avatar f tn I am concerned because he is not even three yet and it has not been approved for use (by the FDA) in children under five. He was only prescribed .25 mg, but I am jut not sure if it is normal to start meds this early? Also, if anyone has a child on it how long did it take before you noticed a difference in behaviors?
Avatar m tn I only took it once and didn't take it again, I didn't have the eye movement problems but I had some other disturbing side effects just from the first dose. I'm scared they'll become permanent because some people on a website with the same thing that happened said it didn't go away after they stopped taking it.
1515545 tn?1291395764 Generally your doctor will start you off on a low dose, then gradually titrate, or increase, your dose upward until your "perfect" or matched dose is found. Lithium is often prescribed for Bipolar Mood disorder, which by your posting, that diagnosis could fit you. Up and down cycles are common with Bipolar disorder.
2010625 tn?1329372056 The only thing that made it go away was the Risperdal they put me on. Unfortunately I had to go off of it because it raised my prolactin (the hormone that makes women lactate and can also stop a womans period) level sky high. So now that I am not on it anymore the nervousness and irritability is coming back. I am on Latuda now but it doesn't seem to be working as good as the Risperdal did. I am not sure what to do. I just don't want to be all nervous and irritable again.
Avatar n tn My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills. I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.
Avatar m tn Right now I am almost off Risperidone for a similar episode(duration for 6 weeks).I feel better at 0.5 mg dose and will be off Risperdal in a few days.
Avatar n tn I am writing for answers for my 15 Year old son with Autism. He has been on Risperdal for about 5 years now and was taking 4mg x 2 daily, HIGH, I KNOW. He is 5'10" 165 lbs. For about the past 6 months he has started with some new behaviors. I relayed these to his Psychiatrist and she has had no comment on them. I researched them myself and found they mimic Tardive dyskinesia in many ways. I have found a new Psychiatrist but can not get in to see her for approx 2 more weeks.
