Like I said the risperdal was a lqst resort. He will be 4 in Sept. and his dose is .25mg cut in half with one half in AM and one half in the night. Since starting 3 days ago the past 2 mornings he has had huge unbelievable tantrums (which isnt out of character generally speaking). Usually mornings are a great time of day for him and I kn ow he isnt tired because since adding the risredal he has slept all night for the first time ever (I think).

It has a very long half life, though I can't give you specifics. The dose and how long you were on it does factor in. Your doctor should be able to help you with your questions on this.

The half life of Risperidone is 20 hours, multiply by 5 would be when it is completely out of your system so 100 hours so basically in less than five days it would all be gone. This information is from my PDR. It makes no difference how long you have taken a drug in how long it stays in your system.

it could be but bipolar is more even, half and half. half anger half fine. does this suit you? i mean its not always half and half sometimes there are imbalances. but still, are you gravitating towards happiness at all?

I was really tired all the time though. I never slept so good in my life. One time I had dystonia from taking compazine for about 3 days. I woke up and felt stiff at first. Then my right shoulder started creeping up and I couldn't put it down. I was in a long term facility at the time, in the cafeteria I tried feeding my self and my fork ended up in my hair instead of my mouth. That's when my friend realized that I needed to see the doctor.

Risperdal is an antipsychotic though but I think some of them can send a person into mania. I remember reading Geodon could at least when read up on it.

Anyway, the anti depressants were stopped and i was gradually put on Risperdal for 18 months life was good, with a little hardening of the right nipple (gynochemastia). but the problem I had was once I had finished my 18 month course, I had an adverse affect called tardive dyskinesia, which is quite unpleasant, and involves lip smacking, tongue poking out, hands moving as thought I am playing the air piano/guitar.

I started going through withdrawals and psychological rebounds and such only a few hours after time to take one medication where I was forced to go through cold turkey withdrawl and it kept getting more intense and then after a while my psychological problems came back in full force worse than ever.

I have read horror stories all over the net about Risperdal. I asked my pdoc to give a low dose so I can get sleep. My biggest mixed state symptom is insomnia which equals mania. Yuck! So, I am doing awsome on Wellbutrin and Lithium and have not gone manic, but I am not sleeping at all! So, I thought adding a low dose of Risperdal is a good move?

Okay, let me ask this a different way? I want to get off the saphris because of the side effects but am afraid of being suicidal again. I'd heard Risperdal is used as a "booster" med for people being on anti-depressants. I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects.

My doctor has put me on three medications (something bad happen to me) anyways they Luvox 100mg for OCD once a day, Xanax half a pill of a .5 3x a day, and Risperdal 1mg at night. I'm really scared of the affect of the Risperdal. It's keeps me very calm, which I like, but at the same time the side affect are really nerve recking. IDK what to do... I'm scared of taking this one pill now, even though it's helping me, greatly.

The past year or so though hes been showing signs of ADD or ADHD. His Dr has prescribed him Risperdal because and medication isnt something she just randomly hands out so I know he needs it. Akathisia sometimes responds to beta blockers. Clonazepam has less of the rebound effects since it has such a long half life;; you can dose it twice per day, or even once every night-- the half life of 24 hours means it will hang around the entire next day to help keep the anxiety at bay.

decided to quit taking it on a monday felt fine all week untill sun when i went into serious withdrawl! so as far as half life im not sure? but you can bet i was back on it mon! so i guess it was in my system for 6 days after i stopped. p.s.

(delusions, mania, hallucinations). i was put on risperdal and ativan. The doc wasnt gonna give me anymore cause i told him i was smoking pot. I was later hospitalized again and given ativan and risperdal again....after i had quit the pot use and the alcohol use...but didnt like the effect of them this time. So i tapered myself off them and straight into a manic episode with psychosis.

I was smooth on seroquel but when doctor start changing medicine from seroquel to risperdal , slowly disaster begin on my life. I miss 2 jobs. Which was so easy. Later i took the seroquel back i felt some relief now. If not i cant conecntrate, i dont like computer, i cant study, slow, happens. Does this happened to any of you? share some experience of yours. He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.

Ever since I was put on risperdal(3mg a day), I have been extremely fatigued. At first I thought it was due to the ECT's, but it's been a year and a half, and I don't feel any better. I keep telling my psych doc, but he says I just need to get a job and that it's in my head. Have you ever heard of fatigue(physical, not mental) as a side affect of risperdal? Her geriatrician stopped all her meds including those for Alzheimers to stabilize her liver. Once her Liver stabilized, the doctor introduced Risperdal stating that it is less liver antagonistic. I have read much about Risperdal being fatal to the elderly but I have also read that given in low doses it is quite effective.
