Avatar f tn I can assure you and have assured the phychiatrist that every word that comes out of his mouth is completely voluntary and is NOT a tick. Do they use any of these drugs for tourettes? At this point I have taken him off of all meds and stopped seeing the psychiatrist. Wouldn't you need to see a brain scan to confirm this Dx?
17218185 tn?1454677673 Please give me some advice about these 2 treatments for Tourettes. My 12 yr old son has Tourette's, was diagnosed when he was 5. At that time, he was having lots of verbal tics, strange behavior, slow language development, and obsessive scribbling on paper then waddling it up and throwing on floor (he started kindergarten, and I got impression he was stressed about learning to write), he did this for hours at a time!
Avatar f tn Her neuro thinks hers is transient tic syndrome. I think they are tourettes. We are currently investigating these things. I also got her a therapist to help her deal with these things. I also try not to bring attention to her tics. It does look as if she does some of this on purpose but its not. Stressful situations will make hers worse. Does your son have a neurologist? Have you thought of taking him to one? I hope all goes well with you.
Avatar f tn and i would highly recommend you consider the potential of your tics being mistaken for Tourettes and the potential of these tics being in someway related to your complex preexisting medical conditions and or medications, and it might be in your best interest to see a Tourettes specialist and be officially diagnosed, which will likely include re evaluation of your medical diagnostic history too. I hope that helps....
Avatar m tn Risperdal is such an interesting drug and being used for a wide range of things now. It's an atypical anti psychotic originally used for schizophrenia. It was a game changer for that disorder. While risperdal is used off label for things like autism and a lot of people that have autism (anywhere on the spectrum) often have overlapping adhd as a secondary diagnosis, this doesn't mean that the syptoms of adhd will improve with risperdal.
Avatar n tn That sounds like a tough problem. Sounds like you have to work with him and it will take some time for him to adjust. I bet kids aren't accepting him readily, and its hard on him. Maybe you could try L-tryptophan at night. It is used for depression, anxiety, insomnia, sleep apnea, tourettes syndrome, and physical boosting.I don't know the dose, and it can't go with certain meds. The pharmacist should be able to answer all your concerns with his med list.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar n tn Hi I had ADHD and tourettes most people with ADHD show signs of autism or tourettes there all connected in some way, I think the way you've described things sounds as if it's tourettes, I've been 2 many behavioul specialist, good luck with it and don't worry x
Avatar n tn We are on Risperdal for my 8 yr old son's anger. He also takes tenex for his tics and attention and prozac for his anxiety. He is kind of an ABC diagnosis kid. He has Aspergers and tourettes and OCD. Most likely PANDAS because of his history of strep and behaviors, but we can't get him treatment for the underlying issue whish is his immune response that makes him get worse symptoms. He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac.
Avatar f tn Risperdal has been shown to be successful in treating tic disorders, including Tourette syndrome. It is good to hear that the medication seems to be having at least some beneficial effect. As some of the individuals responding have mentioned, it is important to be working with a doctor who has experience treating this disorder and there are also some behavior therapy options that have been shown to work. The one that I have seen the most empirical support for is called "habit reversal.
Avatar f tn ummm...no...tourettes syndrome is a hereditary disease that will run in the family..for example...my father had tourettes as well as a cousin in my family has tourettes. i now too have a severe case of tourettes.i was diagnosed at the age of 10 and have done nothing but gotten worse. a small head injury will not cause a child or adult to contract tourettes a day later much less 7 years later! to have tourettes one or more parent or someone in the family line must carry the gene...
Avatar m tn Hi, i have had Tourettes Syndrome since i was six years old. I haven't really paid much attention too it because it was mild, and it would come and go. I have two half-sisters with TS also. I was just wondering, does TS get worse over time? My tics are pretty much just mild. Ex: soft humming, blinking eyes too much, squeezing muscles in throat (for some reason, things that people cant really notice that much).
Avatar f tn my son has developed simple motor tics, shrugging of shoulders, eye blinking, opening jaw.it comes and goes.If not tourettes what could it be?The neurologist feels he may have dysgraphia as well.Has anyone experienced this? This discussion is related to Blinking.
1192491 tn?1265031829 I read an article that research is linking Tourettes Syndrome to Bipolar in latter years, has anyone else heard this? I had Tourettes as a child and now I am Bipolar. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
282524 tn?1348489012 Hi. I am a 17 yr female. I have a small form of Tourettes. You will want to go to a Neurologist. This is a doctor that helps with your Nervous System. Tics are the main cause. Any kind of Nervous defect can really cause it though... Most people are born with it. I was, and yet it was not noticeable until age 6 or 7. Some Long term problems are outburst, flinching vigorously, or any other sudden moments. Hope this helped.
Avatar f tn After reading this site I am learning kids as young as two years old have Tourettes. My Tourettes only lasted a year old so, it was a mild case. I wish the best for your daughter.
Avatar n tn mmmh have you heard of Tourettes syndrome? Well that is when someone has bursts of behavior such as shouting and they too cannot control it.... Your symptom sounds similar to something like Tourette's ...
Avatar m tn I took Risp. for about 3 months and at only 1mg per day but it was a horrid drug for me. Dullness, bad sleep, boobs leaked, headaches and dyskinesia that has not gone away. I stopped mine abruptly and switched back to Seroquel (which I wish I didn't take) and I noticed the anxiety got alittle worse and lasted about 2 weeks and that was from only 1mg!
Avatar m tn Most kids do out grow it but speaking from a kid that had Tourettes, I wish my parents would have taken me to see a doctor or neurologist for medication...even that even had medication for Tourettes back them. Kids can be so creul and it can cause self esteem issues down the line. There is medication to help control the Tourettes and if I were the parent, I would not hesitate to take my son to the doctor.
Avatar f tn My son has tourette syndrome. He has intermittent explosive disorder. He explodes, and then, when sent to " get himself together" he comes back fine. After he explodes, he will run and hide to give himself time to recoup. (A problem at malls and other social situations. He is eight, and now he's having problems at school. Everyone agrees he's great after regaining control, he just can't seem to anticipate what sets him off.
1648124 tn?1301360623 So, my three and a half year old son has been having major issues since before 18months. He has been on Tenex which is showing no effect it did work well for the first few weeks but he is back to his previous behaviors. It never did help with agression or impulsivity but it did slow him down and he was not doing his high pitched screaming that he normal does.
Avatar f tn We took her to a doctor a few days ago, she has tourettes syndrome, and she now has a medication to help.
Avatar f tn My now 9yr. old boy has been on risperdal for almost a year and is now experiencing vocal and physical tics. I recently took him off the meds with doctor's approval and his withdrawls are more tics than before. Hopefully after leaving his system we can start him on something else. Was leary about risperdal in the first place and it was good for a while, but every individual is different. It's up to you to decide, but I hoped I helped some. Parent of 9yr.
Avatar m tn Hickoy5, I can only tell you I had a mild case of Tourettes as a child, I blinked my eys without even knowing I was doing it. After it was brought to my attention I made efforts to try and control, eventually it went away after a year. I would make an appt. with a Physchartist and if he could not help you, I would make an appt. with a Nurologist. Perhaps the medication that was precribed was not the correct medicine for him.
