I am not a doc but I do not understand why a doc is prescribing this for a sleep aid. Also I have been on this for 1.5 weeks...the sedative effect is already wearing off in the evening...as jude2008 mentioned.
I have never taken any drugs for sleep (other than valerian, passionflower etc). But there has to be better sleep aids than Seroquel.
Cool , that's great new's them finding the right dose for you , sometime's that's all it take's instead of switching from med to med . Are you sleeping better now ? . As for Risperdal quiet a few people have problem's with weight gain from that drug i did also , but i found it more effective in smaller dose than higher because i got other side effect's at a higher dose simmilar to the Ziprasidone.
this went on for nearly 3 months. i have been up to 4 mg while on the tablets. Either the risperdal, or the bipolar has flattened my emotions.I get no pleasure out of life anymore. I am currently on depakote and seroquel, but got doubts on the seroquel, cause i hear bad things about all antipsychotics. now my question....is this permanent? The doc took me off the risperdal last month. my last shot waS ON AUGUST 11TH. When will this end? Will i ever get my emotions back?
It looks like the Risperdal could be the reason for the motor tics. Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
We are very new to this, but my question is my loved one has been on Depakote and Risperdal for 8 days now and the mood stabilizer seems to be working great, completely stable in moods but still in the hospital. My concern is that the delusions are still there and even getting worse. Could it be the confinement or is there another medication to address this. What is the Risperdal supposed to address. Are there medications available to address the delusions?
my 4 year old with autism was on risperdal, he had some levels run high so his dr decided to switch him to Tenex...he took his last risperdal 1mg tablet 3 times/day on friday night 11-12-10...he started the tenex 1/2 of a 1mg tablet twice/day saturday morning. since sunday he has been very irritable and aggressive, with very frequent outburst of screaming constantly, hitting himself in the head and bitting, pinching, hitting, kicking, pushing, and scratching himself and others...
My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills.
I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.

I've been taking risperdal for over a year. Whenever I smoke weed now it gets me really messed up and dumb feeling. I smoked every day for a couple months. In September I smoked and it triggered a 2 month long panic attack and now I have trouble sleeping. I cant nap if my life depended on it. I also feel like I have severe cognitive impairment and my memory is non existent. Also cant handle drinking alcohol now since September.
My son just recently started taking risperdal. I am discovering that good help is very difficult to find. He is currently taking 1.5 mg a day. Last night he could not sleep at all and was afraid because he said the medication made him feel tired but his thoughts are still racing and he can't sleep. Is this something I should inform his doctor about or should I wait for his next week appointment.
My son took risperdal for a long time for his mood disorder. He was very manic without it. The side affect that concerned me was the eating. Sometimes he would eat until he vomited. Apparently, risperdal turns off the switch in the brain that signals fullness. His eating was becoming a real problem, so we asked about Abilify. He's been on that a good while, and it works. He's taking 5mg 3 times per day. It's not perfect, but it's better than the rages.
I took Risperdal Consta and Lithium for 7 months while being in the hospital. When I got out of the hospital, boy was I sorry! My cognitive abilities were down about 70%. I also had sleeping problems and chronic fatigue. When I read a book, I had no memory retention of what I read. If you value your son's life, take him off all the drugs, drugs are poison, and take him to a homeopathic doctor.
Hi everyone, My husband who only started taking Riperdal 2 months ago is now finally taking the full dose. It did calm him down a lot!! And his Psychotic symptoms are almost gone!
But does anyone have experience with Antisychotics?
As you might know sleep will come back and if you are on day 3 right now it wont take to long anymore. For me the only thing that seems to aid me in sleep during detox ( which I am in atm too) is a benzodiazepine, but I wouldnt really advise you to get those as they are very addictive to. Another thing that might help with sleeping is heavy exercise during the day. make your body sweat and get yourself real tired, i've heard of people doing it that way.
risperdal works much like seraquil...for schizophrenia and bipolar disorders..but has a side effect of deep sleep ..vistaril is an antihistamine with a side effect of drowsiness as well..i am glad u got some sleep..sounds like it was much needed..sleep is important to recovery as we become weak without it...i do know some say they have a medicine head after taking seraquil and risperdal....that droggy feeling in the am....
Risperdal is such an interesting drug and being used for a wide range of things now. It's an atypical anti psychotic originally used for schizophrenia. It was a game changer for that disorder. While risperdal is used off label for things like autism and a lot of people that have autism (anywhere on the spectrum) often have overlapping adhd as a secondary diagnosis, this doesn't mean that the syptoms of adhd will improve with risperdal.
We weaned off the risperdal and I started geodon about 10 days ago, real low dose 20mg. I was okay for a bit,,,of course I'd been okay while I was off everything too until I wasn't. (Kind of like it always rains after a dry spell, being okay till you weren't anymore) So anyway I started the geodon. A few days into it, my wife asked me if I was okay. I was a little talky,,not sleeping much yada yada. Then today I got depressed and was hiding from everyone in my closet.
