Avatar m tn I usually only have two racing thoughts compared to 8-9 when I am very manic. Anyhow, I have tried EVERYTHING for sleep and I mean that seriously! I love to get good sleep. My best solution yet is the melatonin and noise machine. I did some research on melatonin and found that a lot of bipolars are depleated of natural melatonin compared to normal folk. Maybe this helps you? Best of luck.
559509 tn?1216180446 Does anyone out there take Risperdal for Bipolar Disorder? I don't see hardly any mention of it around this site. Does it make you gain weight like Depakote? Does anyone out there take it for Bipolar Disorder Type 2? Any opinions or thoughts? I am currently on Lamictal and Welbutrin. I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania).

Avatar f tn He was diagnosed with bipolar and then also with ADHD he takes risperdal for bipolar and adderall for adhd. The adderall has been wonderful it really helped a lot the risperdal i am not so sure as he still gets very angry and aggressive he has also been recently diagnosed with social anxiety disorder.
Avatar m tn t live with me anymore if she keeps on doing drugs. So, she left, and she went completely off the risperdal for about 3 days now. And, as I figured, she is currently in the hospital because of an episode. The people that she decided to "hang with" are enablers so they let her go cold turkey on the risperdal even though I told them that she could get psychotic if she does. My friend didn't like risperdal because it made her hallucinate when she tried to smoke marijuana.
Avatar n tn I can someone help me. I have an 8 year old son that has adhd, mood disorder, and sleeping problem. He currently one concerta 36mg in morning, risperdal 0.25 mg, and clondine 0.1 mg one and half pill at night. We just moved am having problems with him at school with his behavior, not finishing classwork, threatning, and hitting people. So i was watching a show on tv this morming. I just want to know could i use natural medication along with prescribed meds.
Avatar m tn If it effects your sleep you could ask your psychiatrist whether you could take the 2 mg. Risperdal dose in the A.M. In general Risperdal is sedating but can sometimes cause sleep disruption but each person responds differently to each medicaation. It would also depend on whether it would make you tired during the day. Also you could ask if the dose could be titrated (spaced out) into two or more doses during the day.
Avatar f tn i take 800 mg of lithuim, 60mg of citalopram for my dipolar II disorder and 125mg of levothyroxine for my underactive thyrod i seem to have problems with my sex drive i never want it could it be the meds
Avatar f tn My son took risperdal for a long time for his mood disorder. He was very manic without it. The side affect that concerned me was the eating. Sometimes he would eat until he vomited. Apparently, risperdal turns off the switch in the brain that signals fullness. His eating was becoming a real problem, so we asked about Abilify. He's been on that a good while, and it works. He's taking 5mg 3 times per day. It's not perfect, but it's better than the rages.
Avatar f tn Risperdal is an antipsychotic given for many disorders at this point although it was originally intended for schizophrenia. There are other medications that are traditionally used for bipolar. I think you really need to consult a pediatric psychiatrist for decisions revolving around medication----- and there is also a doctor's forum here that may be of more assistence. But that is all so personal to the child ----- only a professional in your area can give you legitimate advice.
Avatar n tn It looks like the Risperdal could be the reason for the motor tics. Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. Here is a link to the info I was looking at on Risperdal - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I just weaned myself off risperdal and lamictal and I have terrible insomnia. Maybe it's just coincidental because I'm 51 and probably perimenopausal but it is impossible for me to get a good night's sleep without Ambien. It takes 1 1/2 hours to fall asleep and I toss and turn all night. I was diagnosed last summer with bipolar type II and I began to doubt the diagnosis and I realized that my psych had me overmedicated...
Avatar n tn However, a spectrum view of bipolar disorder is becoming popular. For example, you can picture a line with unipolar depression (major depression only) at point A, and with full blown bipolar type I at the end of the line, point B. If a person has major depression only, then they will fall close to point A on the line.
Avatar m tn i slept last night for about 8 hours. i did have some wine earlier in the dayat a dinner party do not know if i should be drinking a few drinks or not. but i slept like a baby last night. i also wore myself walking all day. i do not think i will make drinking a habit. i as a rule do not like to drink .so you are taking the zyprexa at all anymore? i am no longer depressed. i take 5mg a day. this is the best i have felt in years,. i have not really gained any weight on it yet.
Avatar m tn this went on for nearly 3 months. i have been up to 4 mg while on the tablets. Either the risperdal, or the bipolar has flattened my emotions.I get no pleasure out of life anymore. I am currently on depakote and seroquel, but got doubts on the seroquel, cause i hear bad things about all antipsychotics. now my question....is this permanent? The doc took me off the risperdal last month. my last shot waS ON AUGUST 11TH. When will this end? Will i ever get my emotions back?
Avatar m tn s an atypical anti psychotic originally used for schizophrenia. It was a game changer for that disorder. While risperdal is used off label for things like autism and a lot of people that have autism (anywhere on the spectrum) often have overlapping adhd as a secondary diagnosis, this doesn't mean that the syptoms of adhd will improve with risperdal. Risperdal seems to help with aggressive behavior and behavior problems in general and likely communication. with kids on the spectrum.
Avatar f tn My son has tourette syndrome. He has intermittent explosive disorder. He explodes, and then, when sent to " get himself together" he comes back fine. After he explodes, he will run and hide to give himself time to recoup. (A problem at malls and other social situations. He is eight, and now he's having problems at school. Everyone agrees he's great after regaining control, he just can't seem to anticipate what sets him off.
17218185 tn?1454677673 Im not advocating illegal activities but people in need can get the medication for their disorder if they really want to. Youll see over time if youre practicing polypharmacy or even single drug treatments. my experience of trying many different drugs of the same classes was tough and finally was able to gauge which one was less bad. BUT I would NOT recommend that.
Avatar f tn This is only my own opinion. But for me any kind of medication is the last resort, especially whilst their brains are growing. All medicines have side effects. Some of the medication prescribed for autism/ADHD can have permanent effects such as tics etc. Also, you don't have a diagnosis yet, so how do they know what to prescribe? I know other parents who have had hormes prescribed to help with sleep.
Avatar n tn I have never experienced Schizoaffective Disorder as a patient, but I manage cases with Schizoaffective Disorder for a Behavioral Health insurance company. It sounds like the symptoms you are most concerned about is the disconnected, "spacey" feeling your daughter is experiencing. The feeling is not uncommon among persons who take antipsychotic medications.
Avatar n tn s used for depression, anxiety, ocd, panic. Sizodon 2 is an atypical antipsychotic. Risperdal is the name in my country. These agents are used for schizophrenia, yes, but also bipolar and major depression. You have some overlap in medication that seems like a lot. We can't really guess your diagnosis You need to speak to the doctor whether it's not usually done or not. What symptoms prompted these meds being prescribed?
Avatar n tn Is there any chance that the insomnia is related to the bipolar? Risperdal helps control mania, could that be returning? You can try different things for sleep but need to work with your doctor. They could prescribe something short term to help or you cold try melatonin. So, speak to your doctor for specific guidance of your situation. good luck and let us know how you are doing!
Avatar f tn he also has intermittent explosive disorder. The doctor prescribed Risperdal. I've just read horrible things about it. What have other parents experienced with this drug? Is there a better alternative? He is already on mineral supplements, vitamin supplements, and fish oils.. Thank you for any "experience information.
