1515545 tn?1291395764 My nurse practitioner said that Lithium dose must be adjusted according to how the patient feels and can range from 150mg to over 400mg or even 600mg or 900 mg. But the therapeutic range can be close to the maximum dose the body can tolerate without becoming physically ill she said, so it is important to take the dose exactly as prescribed. She said they try to keep the dose as low as possible that will still help moods be stable.

Avatar m tn I been taking risperdal for 6 days at 0.5mg per day I suddenly stop takin it for 3 days I had no effert Docter said to me today I don't have to take it !! Is that safe to come off it 0.
1142551 tn?1264736930 My son was prescribed risperdal a few months ago, but just in this past week after his psych eval. and really hurting his younger brother I have decided to go with it. I wanted it to be a last resort. I have tried dieting, prescribed sleep aids because I thought he was tired (he hardly slept), schedules, pictures, everything. And the aggression just got worse. Like I said the risperdal was a lqst resort. He will be 4 in Sept. and his dose is .
674607 tn?1240017232 Effexor (low dosage), Lithium (low--600 mg), Wellbutrin (300 mg), Risperdal (low), Clonazepam (low), Dexedrine 10 mg when needed. Do you think any meds on this list can cause high blood pressure?
1516809 tn?1345082764 Her geriatrician stopped all her meds including those for Alzheimers to stabilize her liver. Once her Liver stabilized, the doctor introduced Risperdal stating that it is less liver antagonistic. I have read much about Risperdal being fatal to the elderly but I have also read that given in low doses it is quite effective. My mother is currently in the hospital now for a week, and the Psychiatrist has increased the dose to 2 mg a day.
Avatar n tn my son was treated for an acute anxiety attack in his university ER with risperdal 4 days ago. he has not been the same ever since. he has had all of the classic signs of toxicity from this drug. he was treated in our local ER (2 days later) with benedryl and adavan and he seemed fine following the treatment. but the dystonic reactions, disorganized thinking, anxiety, all symptoms continue.
4509053 tn?1355665640 He is doing well on Intunviv (4mg) during the day and was doing well on Risperdal (.5mg) for mood regulation, but it was causing wetting his pants during the day. Now that he is on a reduced dosage, his outbursts, tantrums, impulsivity, and tics (right now, picking his nose) are worse, and his wetting hasn't improved all that much. Are there any alternatives that could address the same issues, equally well, without the wetting side-effect?
Avatar n tn Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.
Avatar m tn From your test results your Free T4 was a bit lower than we normally suggest, which is middle of the range, at minimum. Your Free T3 is even lower in its range, which shows that your body is not converting T4 to T3 very well. Free T3 is the thyroid hormone that correlates best with symptoms. Many members say that symptom relief required Free T4 at the middle of its range, and Free T3 in the upper third of its range, or as necessary to relieve symptoms.
Avatar f tn The past year or so though hes been showing signs of ADD or ADHD. His Dr has prescribed him Risperdal because and medication isnt something she just randomly hands out so I know he needs it. I just have a few questions that wont be answered until he sees another Dr which I am waiting for a referral to. My questions are: Whats the difference between ADD/ADHD? How will I be able to tell if the Risperdal is having a positive effect or a negative effect and how soon will I know of either?
Avatar f tn We all need to find our optimal range and not just a normal range. Shoot for a lower TSH and a higher free t3 (will probably have to have t3 added in to get there) with a mid range freet4 and see how you feel? If your doctor will not check the freet3 level, then find one who will.
Avatar m tn I responded relatively well to Risperdal. It is rare although not unknown that it can cause any form of heart arrythmia (this can happen with all the atypicals) but if you mean lowering blood pressure that is different and that can happen with all antipsychotics and is generally of less concern. Orthostatic hypertension (having difficulty when suddenly standing) can happen with all antipsychotics for example.
Avatar n tn //www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
898530 tn?1268618782 The Neurologist just started her on Risperdal Tabs 0.5mg but after reading the possible side affects and all the other information, I am a bit worried. Has your child taken this drug and improved or benefited from it? I'd love for you to share your experiences and story with me if possible. Hoping this will really work but I am a bit anxious. Hope to hear from you! Take Care, Kimmys Mom.
4565515 tn?1373411085 My stomach hurts and I have to use the bathroom (diarrhea) a lot. I have pelvic pain and my ribs started hurting really bad this morning. I've been dizzy after eating and nauseous in the morning after brushing my teeth. These symptoms are sporadic though I don't get them all the time. This has been goin on for four days (except the ribs just starts this morning) also I feel a little sick after eating and drinking.
Avatar f tn i take risperdal and i still have my sex drive differrent people respond differently to differrent medications prozac killed my sex drive for two years andi only took it for three months :)
Avatar n tn I went online to check my lab results on 4-26-13 B12 542 range (211-946) on 10-14-13 4.98 range (211-946) TSH 9-5-12 1.39 range (.27 -4.2) on 9-25-13 TSH 5.5 range (.27-4.2}. All that was done was the TSH. The only one who did a tsh and free t4 was the renal doctor on 10-25-13. I reduced it from 112 mcg to 100 mcg.
Avatar n tn t apply to everyone) is that FT4 should be about mid range and FT3 should be in the upper 1/3 of its range. Your FT4 is only at 36% of the range and we have no idea about FT3, so we don't know if you are converting the FT4 to FT3 adequately or not. You should ask for the FT3 test, next time you get TSH and FT4; if she refuses, you should probably find another doctor, because one who refuses to look at FT3, and/or doses based on TSH, will keep you very ill.
674607 tn?1240017232 Every dosage. Lithium dosage is different for every person, what might be fine for me (1250mg a day) might not be for you and it needs titration - to achieve any meaningful level you need blood tests to get your mmol levels - you need to be in the 0.7 to0.9 mmol range to get theraputic benefit for lithium and if you are on 900mg you should be getting tested along with a thyroid test as well. for most adults 600mg is a low dose, it would be doubtful you have a level about 0.
Avatar n tn Is that T4 result for free T4 or total T4. Also, what is its reference range shown on the lab report? Have you ever had the most important thyroid test, for free T3 (FT3)? Free T3 is four times as active as FT4, plus FT3 correlates best with hypo symptoms, including low metabolism. If you haven't been tested for free T3, that should be done.
Avatar f tn 40) is 57% of range. You have to divide 1.06 by the width of the range (1.4 - 0.6 = 0.8), not by the top of the range. 1.06 / 0.8 = 57%. In two weeks, it will be how long since you adjusted Synthroid?
Avatar f tn I went to a psych around 6 months postpartum and was changed to Lexapro which I did ok on till I tried to go up from 10 to 20 mg. it made me jittery and worse sleep problems etc...Psych then added Risperdal which I don't want to take and made me nervous after reading it is used for bipolar and schizaphrenia. After my last appt I was put back on Zoloft with the Risperdal which I'm not taking like I'm supposed to. AND I just found out I'm hyperthyroid. So....
16638194 tn?1449934941 I am in desperate need of some insight regarding medication for Autism and ADHD. My son is 7 years old. He started out on Risperdal when he was 4 but we quickly took him off because he quickly ballooned by 15 lbs. in 1 month. We eventually ended up on Abilify and Tenex (Guanfacine) and he's been taking that combination for about 3 years. Now we are at the point where those two meds were not working at all and we were already at the approved dosage limits.
