my son was treated for an acute anxiety attack in his university ER with risperdal 4 days ago. he has not been the same ever since. he has had all of the classic signs of toxicity from this drug. he was treated in our local ER (2 days later) with benedryl and adavan and he seemed fine following the treatment. but the dystonic reactions, disorganized thinking, anxiety, all symptoms continue.
It looks like the Risperdal could be the reason for the motor tics. Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
t make me you feel or bad to know that others were on the same med, simply because you will receive all kinds of contradicting views. what works for me may not for you
for me i have been on risperidone for 8 years from the onset of my bp yet 1mg only, i find it ok. now i added seroquel for my mixed states 25mg. that is all the AP's I take. Others find it bringing anxiety. but the latter is a secondary effect to all pschy illnesses so you can't tell.
I suffered panic attacks and anxiety for over 10 years starting in high school when I smoked some pot and I had a panic attack and from there it just never left. I started drinking to calm down. Then in college I still was constantly nervous and somebody gave me a klodopin and it worked perfectly. So I started looking for any benzos like Xanax (my favorite) and Valium and klodopin etc. I got hooked on them of course.
I then got hospitalised for aggression. I was on the drug Risperidone(Risperdal) for two months and also on Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injections. And I developed social anxiety, poor attention and zero social skills.
After getting off the clinic, I self medicated to Risperidone(Risperdal), Clonazepam (Rivotril) and Mirtazapine (Remeron) at recommended dosage (And Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injection) and feel good, and developed social skills, and social anxiety is less.
Risperdal is such an interesting drug and being used for a wide range of things now. It's an atypical anti psychotic originally used for schizophrenia. It was a game changer for that disorder. While risperdal is used off label for things like autism and a lot of people that have autism (anywhere on the spectrum) often have overlapping adhd as a secondary diagnosis, this doesn't mean that the syptoms of adhd will improve with risperdal.
My DS was prescribed this to help him sleep and to help him with his aggression and tantrums. I am concerned because he is not even three yet and it has not been approved for use (by the FDA) in children under five. He was only prescribed .25 mg, but I am jut not sure if it is normal to start meds this early? Also, if anyone has a child on it how long did it take before you noticed a difference in behaviors?
We are very new to this, but my question is my loved one has been on Depakote and Risperdal for 8 days now and the mood stabilizer seems to be working great, completely stable in moods but still in the hospital. My concern is that the delusions are still there and even getting worse. Could it be the confinement or is there another medication to address this. What is the Risperdal supposed to address. Are there medications available to address the delusions?
I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.
my 4 year old with autism was on risperdal, he had some levels run high so his dr decided to switch him to Tenex...he took his last risperdal 1mg tablet 3 times/day on friday night 11-12-10...he started the tenex 1/2 of a 1mg tablet twice/day saturday morning. since sunday he has been very irritable and aggressive, with very frequent outburst of screaming constantly, hitting himself in the head and bitting, pinching, hitting, kicking, pushing, and scratching himself and others...
I had a manic/Hypomanic episode without anxiety in July for which Risperdal 3 mg was started.Now I am having bouts of anxiety on reducing dose of Risperdal.My Pdoc says it is a known fact that all anti psychotics are associated with withdrawal syndrome on tapering only degree differs.My Pdoc has actually tapered me from 3 mg to 0.5 mg over 9 weeks and even he is surprised with withdrawal syndrome.
