So I graduated in 2006 and was on Zoloft but not doing well so I went to a shrink that I paid for. She did an assessment on me and concluded I was bipolar and because I was bipolar that could be a big reason why the ssri drugs did not really work. So she put me on Depakote and gave me a low dose of klodopin so I could wean off the benzos. In 2 days time after taking the Depakote, all my anxiety and panic went away! It was a miracle for me. I felt normal again like I used to feel.
I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.
It is interesting that they started him on Risperdal instead of a stimulant med. Risperdal is a great med for bipolar - especially dysphoric manias and/or mixed states instead of euphoric manias. So I am guessing that early on they might have been having trouble figuring out if he had Bipolar or ADHD?
At any rate, that is a tough combination for a child to have - and perhaps even harder on the parent.
The problem is that both areas need to be treated.
I kept getting into hospital for suicidal ideations, and they keep telling me I'm bipolar. I'm not aggressive, I never had a mania, I am described as a very mellow person and some people have thought that I'm autistic actually, but they said "bipolar" and the diagnosis was after one hospital where they put me on some meds, antidepressants and other meds that made me hallucinate.
I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night.
What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
He was diagnosed with bipolar and then also with ADHD he takes risperdal for bipolar and adderall for adhd. The adderall has been wonderful it really helped a lot the risperdal i am not so sure as he still gets very angry and aggressive he has also been recently diagnosed with social anxiety disorder.
My son is "possoble Bipolar" according to his Dr.s. He acts out constantly and is uncontrolable. He is always fighting in school. just recently I got a call from the Vice Princable and he has a tape of my son jumping on another kid and beating the heck out of him. They couldn't even count the time my son punched him because his arms were going so fast. My son will always lie. He says they started it or they did this. It is not just at school but at home as well.
I have not been on pristiq but I have taken Celexa and Risperdal. Celexa 20 mg. is the smallest millagram and it is an antidepressant. The Risperdal is an antiphyscotic and 1 mg. is also a small dose. Risperdal can be used in place of a mood stabilizer and is especially effective if you have issues with anger.

I was diagnosed as bipolar about 8 years ago. Over the years I have taken many different meds. At the beginning of last year I decided that the sedating effects as well as other side effect were hindering my everyday life and relationships. With the help of my doctor, I first went off of my Lithobid. I was amazed at the difference I felt. I felt like I was coming out of a fog! I was very encouraged, and decided to try to go off of my other meds as well.
my son dustin who is 10 has been taking 4mg of risperdal for the treatment of bipolar-mood disorders for about 3 years his pshyciatrist about 2 weeks ago cut the dose in half to try to wean him off slowly over a two month period the past week he has been real emotional could someone please tell me if there is another type of medication that works as well as resperdal without any of the harmful side effects of resperdal
I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
Hi. I am 23 and was diagnosed bipolar when I was 18 or 19 I can't remember. Right now im taking welbutrin, risperdal, ativan, seroquel, and lamictal.
The problem I have is a strange feeling in my head that moves around. It goes away when I place my hands on my head and i'm wondering if it's a symptom of bipolar.
I've tried a few other medicine for bipolar including Abilify (horrible reaction to it), Lithium (zombie and massive weight gain) and Seroquel (bad nighttime eating that I did in my sleep - completely unaware of it) which again caused bad weigh gain. I started out as 265 pounds in 2006 when I was first diagnosed with bipolar and due to the medications I had been on I gained 105 pounds. At one point I was also on Topamax which acted as a mood stabilizer for me (anti-seizure drug).
I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
I take Lamictal now and have for some time. It has helped me tremendously with stabilizing my moods, but I still suffer from depression on a pretty constant basis. I've always struggled with depression, unfortunately. Like many other BP's, I was diagnosed with depression long before I was diagnosed BP.
As far as Abilify, I've taken that before and I hated it. It made me feel just really off.
