risperdal

Avatar n tn How does one switch from Risperdal Consta (50mg Q2wks) to Invega Sustenna??
Avatar n tn OK I JUST STARTED TO TAKE RISPERDAL CONSTA 37.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My husband has been taking Risperdal for about 3 months now and he is complaining about weight gain. Indeed he gained some weight, but he is so thin that it's hard to notice. For now I'm trying to keep our healthy diet as it has always been and keep telling him to do some exercise, I do Yoga and Biking...
Avatar f tn The atypical antipsychotics can often cause weight gain in both children and adults. Abilify, (aripiprazole) is less likely to cause weight gain or metabolic problems." (from - http://www.baltimorepsych.com/NonStimulants.htm). Point being is that if all he is taking now is risperdal and he is not getting a help either med wise or behavioral therapy for his ADHD - then his ADHD is probably making both his and your life pretty miserable.
Avatar n tn Without knowing the actual dosage given, it is impossible to give you an exacting time frame. If he was given the Risperdal Consta injection, the effects would persist beyond one month. This would seem highly unlikely. In my opinion, this toxidrome will resolve without incident in a week or less. If there are no signs of improvement soon, definitely head back for the ER and demand some answers. Keep an eye on temperature and pulse, as those are two good indicators for NMS.
Avatar n tn Geodon works great for some people and horribly for others, like any psych med on the planet. It is less likely to make you gain weight compared to others in the same class, and may be less sedating, but you'll really have no idea how it will work for you until you try it. I think it's also the least likely to cause metabolic problems out of the atypical antipsychotics, but any of them can potentially do that.
Avatar m tn for about 6 years after my last bout of medication (Risperdal and Zoloft) that I quit due to horrible weight gain. So, I am also looking to find the most weight neutral combination as well. In the past 4 years, I have tried Luvox (increased my heart rate and I could not sleep), Prozac (gained weight), and now Effexor. I know others who take these same drugs and did not have these side effects, so I get it that it's different for everyone.
Avatar n tn m TERRIFIED of weight gain. I am 2 years totally free of my eating disorder. Anyone not gain weight on this drug?
Avatar m tn Cool , that's great new's them finding the right dose for you , sometime's that's all it take's instead of switching from med to med . Are you sleeping better now ? . As for Risperdal quiet a few people have problem's with weight gain from that drug i did also , but i found it more effective in smaller dose than higher because i got other side effect's at a higher dose simmilar to the Ziprasidone.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Ambilfy and lithium will make you gain weight I was on ambilify up till january this year my brother is on lithium he is gainining weight from it He is 6 1. Some were I see I got the raw in of the deal on the Height lol sorry. Me being 4 10 1/2. Always makes me smile when I say it so had to point that in there. I know should not say will make you gain weight because I do not know your metablism or your body so that part was wrong for me or anyone to really say. It did make me though.
Avatar f tn The first and second generation antipsychotic medications, like Risperdal, tend to promote weight gain (via increased appetite) in many patients.
603015 tn?1329862973 She is under weight so the docs are not concerned about the weight gain, in fact that would be a good thing.
1798419 tn?1315810427 ve heard that some people lose weight on prozac, but some people who are skinny to begin with (like me) often gain weight with prozac. I've been off it for ages but have recently gone on it again. I'm having a hard time adjusting back to it as well. From what I remember, last time it took me about a month before the side effects went away. You could try mirtazapine (Avanza) it wont affect your sex drive. I tried it, but it made me way too drowsy.
420308 tn?1203041262 I feel better than I ever had in my life, but the only problem I have now is excessive weight gain--about 30 lbs. I am currently 5'7 and 188 lbs. I want to get my weight down to 160 lbs. As a New Year's resolution I have been working out between 30-60 minutes 5 days a week combining cardio and weight training. I have also adjusted my diet by eating more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I have lost about 5 lbs. in 6 weeks.
Avatar n tn The weight gain is most probably due to risperidone and even if your son is diagnosed with diabetes it won't go away. Losing wieght while insulin dependent is hard, but it can be done. You could try letting him drink sugar-free drinks and eating low carbohydrate foods like raw veggies and fruits, instead of battling over foods. Take him to his doctor and stay on the Risperidal-risperidone. Have him tested for diabetes.
Avatar f tn I weighed in at 195 when I started it but now I weigh 265. I was on Risperdal for over 4 years so that one had a weight side effect too but it kept me stable. Now I take Invega, it's working pretty well after the transfer period. Your choice but I would beware of any psych med.
918275 tn?1254068752 I started out on Risperdal and then was switched to Abilify, which seemed to slow the weight gain down, but I am continuing to gain weight which is very troubling to me. I have read alot about Topamax and it's weight loss side effect. I wonder if my psych would be willing to prescribe it for me since the weight gain is really putting a damper on my progress as far as happiness goes.
Avatar m tn Unless I am mistaken you have been off of the Risperdal for a month or so now. The effects of it should be gone by now. What do you mean by feeling normal? Some people say normal and they mean happy. If you are wondering how long it will take you to feel happy again- that is a complicated question but I can try to answer it by asking some questions. What do you mean by normal Clifford?
Avatar n tn Abilify is somewhat different than Risperdal as it is a SDA (Serotonin Dopamine Agonist) and as well it is the least likely out of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain and diabetes and less sedating. If it has helped you better or caused less side effects for you than Risperdal your psychiatrist needs to write a letter documenting why. What you need to do is to call your insurance company and find out how to contest a denial of coverage.
Avatar n tn Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. Here is a link to the info I was looking at on Risperdal - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
Avatar n tn 1% of adult patients in clinical trials with Keppra did experience some weight gain. The weight gain is more likely the result of Risperdal, an anti-psychotic medication that often produces dramatic weight gain. That medication was likely prescribed to address the volatile behavior, not to address the seizure disorder. If his behavior is not under good control you can expect ongoing problems, and the fact that you are continuing to witness serious difficulties invites further evaluation.
Avatar f tn Most people switch to Wellbutrin but another very good choice is ask your doctor about prozac..it works well and there is no weight gain or sexual interest loss.
559509 tn?1216180446 t see hardly any mention of it around this site. Does it make you gain weight like Depakote? Does anyone out there take it for Bipolar Disorder Type 2? Any opinions or thoughts? I am currently on Lamictal and Welbutrin. I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania).
Avatar n tn We were just prescribed this for my son who is 8. He spent the last 3 years fighting outbursts which included throwing things, hitting others, screaming, crying, and not being able to cope with things he didnt like the answer to. He started Trileptal in August and we saw huge improvement. but 2 months ago the doc added Guanfacine and Clonidine to help. then things became bad again. And guanfacine is not easy to come off of. We lately we have had outburts like previous to trileptal.
337492 tn?1212458836 I was prescribed 1mg but after reading the horrible stories about the side effects such as lactation, weight gain and zombie head I split my tablets in half. Not perfect halves but close enough. I read more people had less side effects on .5mg. So opinions please?? Nothing puts me to sleep except Tamazepam, which is habit forming and Seroquel makes me comotose on just 25mg so this seemed like an option.
Avatar n tn It is likely it will replace the risperdal, but the most accurate way to find out is just to go ahead and call you doctor up and ask him what is he planning with your med regiment. Is he going to replace the risperdal, wean you down to a lower level? Is the Depakote staying? I usually preface it with I forgot to ask you when I saw you..... I will do that occasionally, because I do forget to ask.
