My ds 11 has been taking risperdone since August and medication never entered my head but his anxiety was so severe and aggression at home and school with support and pecs symbols. Nothing worked at all he couldnt even be spoken to and would not tolerate people. Since taking risperdone a small dose 0.5mg mornings, it has tremendously helped my ds son with hardly any anxiety and aggression and is happy more in himself.
5 mg of Risperdal and had a week left to stop it but due to a lot of anxiety I took an additional 1 mg dose of Risperdal today.Does it mean that I have to start from scratch and again take an extra week"s 0.5 mg to complete 2 weeks at 0.5 mg or is it alright for me to continue to taper and stop Risperdal after 7 days as advised by my Psychiatrist.My Psychiatrist is out of town and is unavailable.
I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
I had a manic/Hypomanic episode without anxiety in July for which Risperdal 3 mg was started.Now I am having bouts of anxiety on reducing dose of Risperdal.My Pdoc says it is a known fact that all anti psychotics are associated with withdrawal syndrome on tapering only degree differs.My Pdoc has actually tapered me from 3 mg to 0.5 mg over 9 weeks and even he is surprised with withdrawal syndrome.
He was diagnosed with bipolar and then also with ADHD he takes risperdal for bipolar and adderall for adhd. The adderall has been wonderful it really helped a lot the risperdal i am not so sure as he still gets very angry and aggressive he has also been recently diagnosed with social anxiety disorder.
I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
Why is your son on Risperdal - has there been a specific diagnosis? Actually, behaviours common to anxiety can mimic ADD/ADHD and sometimes children have been misdiagnosed with either ADD or ADHD; when, in fact, it was anxiety that was the problem. My original thoughts were leaning towards Tourette's, but that diagnosis has been ruled out. I'm wondering if the above poster has the right idea - ask for a second opinion. Sorry I can't be of more help ...
My roommate has been going on a psychotic episode for 4 weeks now. She was a functioning meth and marijuana user and didn't show any signs of psychosis until recently. Around the new year, she quit using meth for about 2 weeks. She then started using again, but not that much; maybe a couple times in a day or when she was tired. She more regularly smoked marijuana (MJ) because she says it helps her handle her anxiety.
my son was treated for an acute anxiety attack in his university ER with risperdal 4 days ago. he has not been the same ever since. he has had all of the classic signs of toxicity from this drug. he was treated in our local ER (2 days later) with benedryl and adavan and he seemed fine following the treatment. but the dystonic reactions, disorganized thinking, anxiety, all symptoms continue.
When I was 16 I started having anxiety for no reason, I'm 26 now and still struggle with it daily and for the past 10 years I've been on every medicine you can imagine and nothing has worked. No doctor or myself has been able to find any sort of trigger it just happens all of a sudden and I can't control it. Has anyone else had this issue? Any medicines that you can suggest that I try?
I was on Lithium for almost 2 yrs and I can tell you it can certainly screwup your sex drive. I went from 20-30 minutes of bliss to 10 minutes of strain too. The longer you take it the less you will care if you ever have sex again. I am obsessive about sex and my dr had to take me off of it so I went to Risperdal. It was a nice alternative after the transfer period. It kept the voices from getting me nuts.
I don't think risperdal is an addictive drug. You're thinking of the withdrawal symptoms people can suffer when stopping some of these meds, but I have no personal experience with that drug. I do know it can cause some unwanted side effects, so if you don't think these drugs are right for what's ailing you the sooner you stop the better, but don't stop them abruptly -- taper off.
I responded relatively well to Risperdal. It is rare although not unknown that it can cause any form of heart arrythmia (this can happen with all the atypicals) but if you mean lowering blood pressure that is different and that can happen with all antipsychotics and is generally of less concern. Orthostatic hypertension (having difficulty when suddenly standing) can happen with all antipsychotics for example.
