Risperdal and zoloft together

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal and zoloft together

risperdal

I've taken both those medicines, Risperdal and Zoloft. My psychiatrist gave me risperdal once when I went off on him for making me wait 4hrs to see him!!!! I was pissed, but it helped with my anger. How long have you and your boyfriend or fiance been together. I am sooo lucky to have my husband as understanding as he is. He grew up with a bipolar father who beat him and mistreated him. So when I get mad over something stupid or worry he understands.
5ml pm daily and this helps, but this is still what we are facing, even with meds. We have also tried clonidine, Strattera, Zoloft and Ritalin, with the results being none or being even more activated. I have taken behavior management classes, he has been in therapy for his AS for several years, I have researched extensively online and attempted to implement every strategy I have come across, to no avail. I am exhausted physically and mentally and do not know where to turn.
I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
depakote (caused depression!), Zoloft for anxiety (ramped her up and made her threaten a kid at school), datrayna made her tantrum, dexadrine made her fall asleep and also be emotional, Risperdal worked the best but always needed to be increased and finally she was at the top of her dose. She h as been in therapy for 2 years, so please no suggestions from anyone about not giving her meds and trying therapy or special diets....been there and DONE THAT.
So screw it, I'm open to meds. My shrink said take Zoloft daily and klonopin (as needed). I haven't tried Zoloft yet. Klonopin seems ok but I worry about long term use. Plus I haven't really "tested" klonopin in a really "nervous" situation yet. I also have trouble staying asleep for more than 2-3 hours. Will Zoloft make this WORSE or better? Lastly, what has worked for some of you suffers of agoraphobia? My shrink is a huge promoter of Zoloft.
I am not aware of an association between risperdal and SVT. Risperdal has been associated, rarely, with prolongation of the QT interval and torsades. This leads to the conclusion that risperdal may have cardiac manifestations in some people. However, SVT caused by risperdal, if it happens at all, would be very rare. Hope that helps.
My daughter, 9 years old, is bi-polar, takes Depakote, Risperdal and Zoloft. She has been stable for almost a year now :) however, is not focused on anything, failing in school because she does not pay attention, gets out of her seat 30 times a day and is the same way at home.
a good example of my problem is that it took me about a month to get a clear enough train of thought to write this. I take Zoloft for Depression and S.A.D. and while it does help it hasent affected my mental blockage, Also, altough my depression comes and goes like the blockage there not synronized, one doesn't seem to affect the other.
You also have to be happy with yourself and like yourself before you can provide for others properly so I advise you to get back on an anxiety med and let it do its job. Zoloft and Clonazepan work for me and they have been around for a very long time helping people like us. I can almost for certain say that you are physically fine - I've been through it all. So, get yourself up, dust yourself off, and start out completely fresh - you owe it to yourself and your children.
I would ask your neurologist for a consultation with a psychiatrist, and maybe they could work together to solve this problem.
Hi, I have been on both separately and now I am taking them together, 300 mg. a day of Effexor and 20 mg. Celexa and 30 mg. of Risperdal The Effexor by far is better to treat depression in my experence but it is a brutal withdrawal. The Celexa alone did nothing for me but together I am responding very good. If it were me, I would try the Celexa first and if that doesn't help go for the Effexor or on of the other antidepressants that are available till you find what works best for you.
◦ Prostate enlargement — tamsulosin (Flomax) or terazosin (Cardura) ◦ Depression -- especially selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine (Prozac), sertraline (Zoloft) and several others ◦ Psychosis -- such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), thioridazine (Mellaril) and risperidone (Risperdal) Retrograde ejaculation does not interfere with a man's ability to have an erection or to achieve orgasm, but it can cause infertility because the sperm cannot reach the woman's
Now, as an adult, I am seeing a correlation where they are popping up with intensity during my most stressful times. Currently I have one that I guess could be described as flexing and the tendons in my neck and I have done it to the point where my jaw is stiff and sore and my head hurts. I've also found that I have been gritting my teeth/clamping my jaw shut a lot. Is there medication or therapy for something like this? How do you get diagnosed? It's driving me crazy.
The phenothiazines may be used when haloperidol or pimozide has proven ineffective. Atypical antipsychotics and other agents that block dopamine receptors include risperidone(Risperdal) and clozapine(Clozaril). Tetrabenazine is a promising new medication with fewer side effects than other typical neuroleptics. It can be used in combination with the older antipsychotic medications, allowing for lower doses of both medications with substantial relief.
Thanks for your response, My Psychiatrist has said he has run out of ideas and wants to send me back to the Gastro enterologist who after extensive testing to find the cause of my constant nausea decided it was the anxiety and depression that was causing it.
you can,say that I am I have been, with the same person and have 3 children together and,she has always been, there for me even through the bad and when I lost my grandpa last, year I went through a really dark time, cause he raised me for 6 yeards when my dad was out on the road and I,have told,my doctor about the medication and it seems like he is not really worried how I feel just into the medicine aspect of it
Hi adel I just wanted to mention that you should make another effort to taper Risperdal and Stelazin one by one and stop both and later bring Seroquel to theraputic level. You will definetely have plenty of anxiety while tapering both but you got to do it for your own good to prevent complications from combinations of 2 AP's and one typical combined .I encountered plenty of anxiety while tapering Risperidone but I did not give up and now am just 4 days away from stopping it.I am presently at 0.
Hi, I am new to this site and hope I can contribute some helpful information. I was dx with severe depression 25 yrs. ago and a couple of years was redx. with Bipolar I w/mixed episodes, severe depression. I also have been thru a mixture of different "cocktails". I am currently on a cocktail of 300 mg. effexor, 20 mg. of celexa and 30 mg of Risperdal and I am having some success...finally.
We have done rewards, consequences, contracts, charts, grounding, severe discipline times, light discipline times and he is on Concerta and zoloft. It is like he needs the supervison of a toddler. This is overwhelming and exhausting on our family. He can be fun but will ruin it by starting arguments or getting handsy with people or name call. He takes everything personally. Therapy does not seem to be working. What can we do?
When I stopped the zyprexa and took the paxil alone I felt a lot better. Now I am off both and barely keeping it together. Where I live I can only go to one place to get treatment (no Insurance.) I don't want to go back to that DR. but i have no choice. I refuse to take the zyprexa. I was relieved when I stopped. I could have a bowl movement naturally, I started to jog again and enrolled in school and got a fulltime job. I started to eat again.
when i was on all these anti-psychotic meds and mood stabilizers (tons of prozac, klonopin, risperdal, remeron, and something else, all at the same time, not to mention street drugs and lots of booze. the medications made me gain thirty pounds. i stopped taking them. now i'm on some things, but nothing major like that. and i have found that i like to stop and try to find clarity and whatnot, and meditate a little bit.
on this stuff after one dose) Clonazepan Mirtazipine Zoloft Zyprexa Seroquel Prozac Celexa Toprol XL Welbutrin Lexapro Risperdal In October 2005 they did a TSH test which was 1.74, two months later .94, then 1.20 (range .35 - 4.82. We were on abilify and it helped at first but then he got worse and worse despite our upping the dose to 15 mg. Then we stopped and went to risperdal and he is seeming better. But work with a child psychiatrist on the meds. They need to be constantly monitered and adjusted. Keep a behavior log and log every single tantrum with a rating 1-3 and a cause and consequence and how long the fits lasted. Then take this to your psychologist.
My 12 yr old is fairly uncontrollable and he is on vyvanse (sp.) for the hyperactivity and risperdal for mood swings doesbt seem to be helping much these days, our house is in constant turmoil because of his mood. I feel for you and I know his brother does too, he gets the your stupid, we all get the I hate you and you ruin my life bit. BUt in the end the medication helps some even if for a little while for some reprieve.
I used to take the big three, Depakote, Risperdal, and Zoloft. Three expensive and deadly medications. The Psychiatrist who wrote these prescriptions told me they would take "years if not decades" off my life!!!! The biggest help I have found are boards like this where we can compare symptoms and life stories. It shows me what is truly BPD caused and what is more a trait of my own.
Since my problems started in around 2003, the doctor's have tried me on Clonezapan, Ativan, Lorazepan, Seroquel, Zyprexa, Risperdal, Zoloft, Cymbalta, Welbutrin, Xanax, Paxil, Paxil CR, Cytomel, Hydrocortisone, Testosterone injections, Avelox, Prednisone, Remeron, Ambien, Ambien CR, Chloral Hydrate, Clomipramine, Buspirone, Lexapro, Lunesta, Ru-Tuss, Amoxicillin, Taurine, Flonase, Lamictal, Invega, Hydrocone, Lortab, Oxycodone, Morphine ER, Metopropal (high blood pressure), Amitryptiline, etc.
I am starting Serafem (another name for Prozac) this am and also perhaps a very very small amount of Risperdal at night to sleep to help with panic and insomnia like 1/2 of a 0.25mg tab. Just some thoughts but I wanted to update you on my situation since you were so nice to write in the first place. Hope all is going well with you and the side effects of the Effexor xr are going away so you can enjoy your life.
) Our son has been on anti-depressants (currently Zoloft)for 2 yrs. and the dosage just wasn't quite right so he has seen his psychiatrist every 4 - 6 weeks for a long time. The Psyc. says, "Well, we'll go with that diagnosis for now and wait and see what happens". WHAT ELSE DO THEY WANT TO HAPPEN! The fatigue and muscle aches that came with this are settling down - he was sleeping 12 to 14 hrs. a day, now 10 hrs.

Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about two minutes, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
