Avatar f tn My son has tourette syndrome. He has intermittent explosive disorder. He explodes, and then, when sent to " get himself together" he comes back fine. After he explodes, he will run and hide to give himself time to recoup. (A problem at malls and other social situations. He is eight, and now he's having problems at school. Everyone agrees he's great after regaining control, he just can't seem to anticipate what sets him off.
Avatar f tn Mt son has tourette syndrome. 3 vocal and 8 physical. I could cate less about these issues. Problem: he also has intermittent explosive disorder. The doctor prescribed Risperdal. I've just read horrible things about it. What have other parents experienced with this drug? Is there a better alternative? He is already on mineral supplements, vitamin supplements, and fish oils.. Thank you for any "experience information.
Avatar f tn So, I began the course of meds and my so became a MONSTER. He was horrible and crying one minute and quiet and sad the next. I went back to the DR he switched up his meds which included Risperdal which made him a complete zombie. I guess my question is: How do you treat Tourette Syndrome. My son does not have any of the "classic signs" of this disease, I was in a state of shock after being told he had it!
Avatar f tn Risperdal has been shown to be successful in treating tic disorders, including Tourette syndrome. It is good to hear that the medication seems to be having at least some beneficial effect. As some of the individuals responding have mentioned, it is important to be working with a doctor who has experience treating this disorder and there are also some behavior therapy options that have been shown to work. The one that I have seen the most empirical support for is called "habit reversal.

Read up on Tourette Syndrome and just keep a close watch. If someone in your family has Tourette Syndrome, then watch your grandson even more closely because it's genetic.
Avatar f tn ) I can use to help HS students to be supportive and considerate and help a classmate with Tourette Syndrome feel comfortable in class? I'm also interested in any suggestions teachers have used in their classes that may help from a teacher's perspective.
Avatar f tn First, I can find no indication that risperdal is indicated for ADHD. " In 2006, the FDA approved risperidone for the treatment of irritability in children and adolescents with autism.[6] The FDA's decision was based in part on a study of autistic people with severe and enduring problems of violent meltdowns, aggression, and self-injury; risperidone is not recommended for autistic people with mild aggression and explosive behavior without an enduring pattern.
Avatar f tn Her tics will come and go with severity and changes. Her newest tics are she rapidly shakes her head back and forth and snorts. Her past tics have been shoulder shrugs, leg and arm twittching, belly twitching, etc. At one point her tics were severe and her neuro put her on clonidine. Her neuro thinks hers is transient tic syndrome. I think they are tourettes. We are currently investigating these things. I also got her a therapist to help her deal with these things.
Avatar f tn Dear Farrah , especial thanks for your reply.I'v just read the previous posts about muscle twitches.it was helpful.it LOOKS LIKE tourette or it's a real tourette syndrome?.would you tell me more about tourette syndrome?are twitches indicate lesions in my spinal cord?did you experience the tics during the attack or a relaping period?( i have it for 7 months!once per 2-3 minutes)and i also hear a crackling sound during each tic...
Avatar n tn I also have tics that manifest in my eyes, such as blinking and rolling. I am taking risperdal, my daughter takes another type of medication. However as with all medication, it has its side effects. I don't know how Tourette begins. Many of my fathers side of the family have it. My daughter and I both have it. I feel for children who have to deal with this.
Avatar f tn My 5 year old daughter started what I now know are symptoms of Tourette Syndrome at the age of 2. I want to say it started with stuttering then excessive and seemingly forced eye blinking. Because those particular "tics" stopped I contributed them to normal childhood tics however every few months some new tic would begin i.e humming sounds, smelling fingers constantly.... Now at age 5 she grunts, snorts and still makes humming sounds.
Avatar m tn I still have the tics occassionally, althought it disappeared temporarily when I go abroad for vacation or even just attending business fair. Is my tics considered a tourette syndrome? May I know if there is any natural nutrients to help alleviate it? Is there any remedy to tics.

Avatar f tn The only rescources that I have been able to contact are the NH dept. of education, the Tourette Syndrome Association, and The parent Information Center. None have them have been too helpful as of yet. I've been told that I should request for her to be evaluated by the school department for special needs. I still have no clue on how to write up a 504 plan and have little knowledge as to what would best accomodate my childs needs.
1187323 tn?1264440436 Hi, I have a question regarding the link between Tourette Syndrome and Bipolar. I experienced a mild case of Tourettes around 11-12 yrs. old, (blinking eyes) that lasted about a year. I have been dx w/Bipolar. I read there is research that links Tourettes as a forerunner to Bipolar. Your thoughts? Also as an adult, when I get really upset, emotional or depressed, I get tics under my eye that can last 2 wks. or longer...
Avatar n tn TOURETTE syndrome is one of several neurological motor tic disorders. I would recommend That your Doctor schedule a neurology referral to be sure of the diagnosis. And yes TOURETTE`s syndrom may involve tics of the eye muscles. But you need an accurate diagnosis and futher help. Take care.
Avatar f tn I had a son with Tourette. Reading your post brought back so many memories, this one in particular. My son used to smell absolutely everything before he would put it in his mouth. He also, couldn't help himself to stop. I think there's a strong possibility of Tourette. I haven't told anyone but I have a lot of experience when it comes to raising a child with Tourette's Syndrome.
