Risperdal and seroquel

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal and seroquel

risperdal

IncreaseS in dopamine release have been associated with psychosis and behavioral disturbances. Product information of Risperdal discourages concomitant use of any drug that affects the brain as Risperdal may enhance the side effects of the other medication. I would advise you to refrain from taking any substances without the knowledge of your physician.
I found Risperdal fairly tolerable. Seroquel was somewhat more sedating and Zyprexa extremely so. The side effects I got are common to all (current) antipsychotics. The more important thing is if you can't tolerate Risperdal and need an antipsychotic you could ask your psychiatrist about changing to a different one. Even though they all basically work in the same manner they are different enough that one might easily be tolerable for you than another.
Seroquel is a strong antipsychotic agent. While it does cause drowsiness, using it for sleep alone could bring along unwanted side effects or even new medical conditions. Using a medicine specifically prescribed as a sleep aid would be a better option than exploiting a side effect of seroquel. Also, patients who currently take seroquel often feel drowsy throughout the entire day.
I would want to know from the members of this forum about how many people are using Seroquel only as a sleeping aid in doses of 25 mg and 50 mg.All suggestions and answers are welcome.

Namaste, Explanation of the issues (and sequence of events) surrounding the lawsuits that claim that the use of Seroquel, Zyprexa and Risperdal caused health problems such as pancreatitis and diabetes and stroke. Zyprexa, like Risperdal and Seroquel, has been associated with serious side effects in patients, especially those who have already been diagnosed with diabetes.
Most of the side effects are common to the drug type and Seroquel has less it seems than some like Risperdal and Geodon to name but 2 with bad reps for side effects. All in all it works wonders for me, I feel normal and the side effects are not serious and come and go, I take it with Lithium and Abilify and it seems to work well, just make sure you read the information statement - you can find one here : http://www.drugs.com/seroquel.html Hope that helps in some way.
i stopped taking risperdal a week ago and i feel lousy. can anyone relate ? im still on lithium.
I had some problem with weight gain from Seroquel and especially Risperdal. Abilify is less likely to do that but from what you say the Seroquel is tolerable except for the weight gain. Complex. It is important to keep the weight gain in check so I'd suggest having your psychiatrist refer you to a nutrionist and definitely get a test (at least once a year) for blood sugar levels and the like (on any antipsychotic).
I think my pdoc is trying to cover all bases as she has me on cymbalta, seroquel xr, lamictal and lithium. I just don't sleep on a normal basis and seroquel didn't change that, but seroquel xr at first was great! helped my mood and let me sleep. Now...I'm getting depressed again with hallucinations, am gaining alot of weight and can't wake up for many hours in the morning. I was at the upper limit of Cymbalta before and it wasn't bad at all cutting over from cymbalta to seroquel.
I also am bipolar depressive and was on Effexor, which pooped, then Paxil and 600mg Seroquel. I went from 130 to 180 in 6 months and was having ongoing panic attacks. Day and night for an entire year. I'll tell you what made the panic attacks and depression go away. I quit antidepressants and sloooooly tapered off the seroquel. It was remarkable. The antidepressants were making me crazy. The awful anxiety slowly got better, although not all the way. I've always had it, I'll live with it.
i am on seroquel 50mg and read so many times about cataract and diabetes of course i cannot preclude the relation however for diabetes all atypical AP's cause it others even faster and worse zyprexa is an example. I can't stand high dose of seroquel so i am mixing AP's like taking risperidone, etc... look any med you take will have side effects. Some pdocs don't recommend AP unless with psychosis, others use them only as an ms, no rules exist.
I have taken Abilify before and it didn't seem to do anything. I took Seroquel and had to stop it for side effects. I took Geodon a very long time ago but don't remember how it effected me. I wish I didn't have all these side effects with the Risperdal it is working well for me otherwise.
what is the difference between depakote seroquel and risperdal and there affects? I am BP and wanted some info about these meds.
This time he was put on Zyprexa and then changed to Risperdal. Ten days in hospital and two weeks of day-visits for therapy later, when he went back to work, he again did not do well (though he was taking his meds). His doctor said that he may not be responding to Risperdal and switched him immediately to Zyprexa (10mg/day). He did not do well in the next three days and went back again to the hospital. He is now recovering in the hospital but his progress seems slow.
I currently take Depakote, Risperdal and Cogentin (the latter to control the tremor from the Risperdal) and my doctor mentioned I could probably try Abilify instead. This regimen keeps my moods very stable (although a little bit unmotivated and depressed all the time) but I am concerned about what I feel is mental confusion, although it is hard to blame that on a particular drug, other health factors, advancing age, eating habits or something else.
i have been on haldol which was crippling, got off it, then onto risperdal, geodon, and seroquel. the most tolerable is risperdal however i tend to need something to help me get to sleep very badly. i dont fall asleep easily. thats when my psychiatric nurse moved me on to geodon then seroquel along with risperal. both of these i find not very tolerable at all. with seroquel i will sleep very sound though i might suffer some bad hallucinations getting there. and i will oversleep with it.
i am pregnant at the min and i have been on seroquel 4 a few months my doctor advised me 2 come of them over 3 days is there any sideaffects
One more thing please taper and stop only one medication at a time as inspite of the proper tapering you may still encounter some withdrawl symptoms like anxiety and insomnia.First taper and stop Seroquel and only then proceed to taper and stop the next medication.
So, after experiencing bad symptoms the first two days on very low doses of Risperdal, I waited 24 hours and resumed the Seroquel. For the first time in a long time yesterday and the night before, I remembered to take a higher dose as has been wanted. I was taking it approx. every 3 hours with longer periods inbetween. In a 24 hour period, I took approx. 400-450mg. My doctors have wanted me to take between 600-800mg. to bring things under control and to stablize me.
i take risperdal and i still have my sex drive differrent people respond differently to differrent medications prozac killed my sex drive for two years andi only took it for three months :)
I take seroquel in 150mg and it don't do **** at all any more i have to swallow 2 pills to knock me out I.
Ya this is true! I am taking Depakote and Seroquel and those have helped my manic episodes. It helps me level out because I am so up a lot with a lot of energy. So these medicines are a great choice for me. look into it and see if this will help you too.
Yes I experienced withdrawal symptoms when I was changed from Seroquel to Risperdal and had to titrate off on at the rate my psychiatrist told me to. That is not uncommon. Its chemically separate phenomenon from addiction and if a person follows their psychiatrist's titration schedule in time these concerns will pass.
5mg. So opinions please?? Nothing puts me to sleep except Tamazepam, which is habit forming and Seroquel makes me comotose on just 25mg so this seemed like an option. I am looking forward to the deep sleep I will have tonight, but I do not want to feel like **** during the day. I have a job interview Monday and I really want it. Anyone have luck on a low dose of Risperdal w/o yucky side effects? I need a reliable sleep aid!
Since last april I was put on zeldox and rivotril, remained on zoloft, and taken off of seroquil and risperdal. Now several months later my Dr cut my dose of zoloft by half because my social worker informed him that I seemed manic. Should I stay on zeldox (I lost over 30 pounds and have no appetite) or go back to risperdal despite its debilitating side effects?
What I was thinking of doing with the risperdal is to take a half mg at night every other night and take 1 mg the other nights and then work my way to one half every night for about a week and then half mg every other night and then maybe three times a week but if this sounds like a stupid plan please let me know.I do not even know if I will have any withdrawls at all. I have missed one night before and was still ok but I dont know how long it take to get out of the system.
They will work similarily to Abilify but Risperdal works in a similar manner to Seroquel and you could tolerate that so if you did have to change there will be new options. Cataracts are rare as a long term side effect. The long term side effects I mentioned are more of concern and Abilify has less sexual side effects generally so the ones that will released should in general.
Well I haven't had any Vicodin for months now. However, the Risperdal seems to make me feel fatigued and not wanting to do anything. I could do without it I think...
