Risperdal and prozac

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal and prozac

risperdal

Avatar n tn He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
1798419 tn?1315810427 I have been on effexor for four months now, In that time ive gained 6 kgs, feel bloated and full all the time, and have NO sex drive at all. I spoke to my doctor about this, and she assured me the weight gain has nothing to do with effexor, she made feel like it was all in my head. I decided to take myself off the medicine, i halved my dosage for a week, then stopped it all together, i have gone back on prozac which is what i was taking before effexor..
Avatar n tn He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
Avatar m tn In the past 4 years, I have tried Luvox (increased my heart rate and I could not sleep), Prozac (gained weight), and now Effexor. I know others who take these same drugs and did not have these side effects, so I get it that it's different for everyone. After my 150 mg increase, I may want to look into temporarily (1 year) having an anti-psych added like last time because it did wonders. Just don't want that weight gain!
559509 tn?1216180446 I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania). My manic states don't last that long and it confuses me cause I am in somewhat of denial about my diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder which i've had for three years now. I get intense anger and irratability for no reason other than I get pissed off eaily.
Avatar f tn Most people switch to Wellbutrin but another very good choice is ask your doctor about prozac..it works well and there is no weight gain or sexual interest loss.
Avatar m tn So they keep putting me on risperdal all the time, and when I take this stupid thing I keep hallucinating and seeing things in strange green color. So I stop taking it, and I stop hallucinating and I'm able to keep off of it, but I keep getting depressed and they keep on saying that I'm bipolar, partially because my mom keeps on lying to them. Other antipsychotics make me so and unable to keep focused as well, they make me loose all emotions and I hate taking them. How do I solve this?
Avatar f tn jHas anyone tried taking two antidepressants along with a mood stabilizer and had good results? I'm currently taking Depakote and Cymbalta, but thinking of adding Prozac for added depression benefits. I'm also on an antipsychotic, Geodon.
Avatar n tn Keep to a good diet and exercise regime that is healthy for you. You may gain no weight at all. And if you do begin gaining weight, you and your doctor can determine if this side effect is worth the benefit of the drug. good luck to you and GREAT job overcoming your eating disorder!! Stay well.
Avatar n tn I developed severe akathisia after taking Seroquel, Risperdal and Prozac- we are not sure of which one was the offender- docs think most likely it was the risperdal however prozac was initiated around the same time. I was on seroquel many years without any difficulty. The seroquel and risperdal were given for sleeping problems and the prozac for anxiety.
Avatar f tn i take risperdal and i still have my sex drive differrent people respond differently to differrent medications prozac killed my sex drive for two years andi only took it for three months :)
649982 tn?1226357902 so now i am on diazepam 5mg one a night, fluoxetine 20mg daily and this new doctor has also put me on risperdal 1mg need to take 2 of the risperdal for three nights with the diazepam. then see him in three weeks. so i will see what will happen. thank you so much for your advise.
Avatar n tn m having strange neurological symptoms (numbness in extremities, a weird gait when I walk, pain shooting up and down my spine and into my head and horrid ringing in the head and ears). What kind of doctor should I see, and how do convince them that I am not "just a head case." I have attempted suicide once because of these miserable symptoms.
Avatar n tn As for the akathisia, it has been caused by prozac and a host of other meds; make certain you are not still contributing to the condition with other medications, and try some inderal throughout the day to reduce the symptoms if you have them. JJ.
Avatar m tn Prozac has been known to cause severe mania and suicidal thoughts and actions in BP sufferers - I tried to commit suicide on Prozac. SSRI drugs are not a great idea for Bipolars according to most modern thoughts and based on my experiences you would not get me within a mile of a bottle of prozac... Have you got a pdoc?
Avatar f tn My 10 year old daughter is suffering from PTSD, the Psychiatrist that she is seeing has her on 4 different medicines. These medicines are Prozac 20mg, Kapvay .2mg, Risperdal .5mg, and Imipramine. My question is first is this safe to mix and second what side effects could this mixture cause?
Avatar n tn I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
Avatar f tn It's hard telling but I was put on Geodon and then Risperdal and finally Abilify and I have a history of alcohol abuse and you're not supposed to drink while on any of those and I never did anything like that but those are different medications and I am a different person altogether. I would say if he doesn't normally do this ever while intoxicated something is out of whack there but some people have a tendency to eventually turn violent no matter what while being drunk.
Avatar m tn Hello , i've been thinking i have dysautonomia for some time now and i wanted to know if anybody can give me an advice/opinion about whether or not i might have it , and if yes then what can i do about it. Thanks in advance. Allright , its quite a bit of a story ( as im sure you all know ) but i will tell you everything.
Avatar n tn I also have tics that manifest in my eyes, such as blinking and rolling. I am taking risperdal, my daughter takes another type of medication. However as with all medication, it has its side effects. I don't know how Tourette begins. Many of my fathers side of the family have it. My daughter and I both have it. I feel for children who have to deal with this.
Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am taking Risperdal and 300 mg. effexor xr and 20 mg. Celexa. It has been trial and error but finally with the increase of the effexor xr and addition of Celexa I still have some depression and some mood swings but overall, I am MUCH better. I took Prozac for many years and really good success, really worked great for me and after several years it lost it's effect on me. Sometimes it it a matter of increasing your present meds. Best of luck to you.
Avatar n tn Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.
Avatar n tn I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night. What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
Avatar f tn Some people have psychiatric symptoms get worse or appear after taking an antipsychotic like a guy I just talked to today took a low dose of risperdal for anxiety and he started having hallucinations after taking it. Everyone is different really and their brains adjust to things differently.
Avatar m tn She is 39 years old. I have been trying to be hard-nosed and told her that she can't live with me anymore if she keeps on doing drugs. So, she left, and she went completely off the risperdal for about 3 days now. And, as I figured, she is currently in the hospital because of an episode. The people that she decided to "hang with" are enablers so they let her go cold turkey on the risperdal even though I told them that she could get psychotic if she does.
Avatar f tn t worked either, but i was exercising everyday, eating well, meditate and yoga and actually was feeling a bit better but not entirely so he added me another dosage of prozac and reduce the clonazepam, 5 days passed and i was feeling super bad, had the worst anxiety and depression i had in my life. i talked to him and he said ok so back to one dosage of prozac and more clonazepam and well it did help but i was not feeling a bit better like i was.
Avatar n tn 4 Months after her last dose she got pancreatis and Bells Palsy and now her jaw moves back and forth under stress. Is Bells palsy linked to tardive dyskinesia? I read in the Facial Nerve Book that it is.
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
