Avatar n tn I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
Avatar f tn It's hard telling but I was put on Geodon and then Risperdal and finally Abilify and I have a history of alcohol abuse and you're not supposed to drink while on any of those and I never did anything like that but those are different medications and I am a different person altogether. I would say if he doesn't normally do this ever while intoxicated something is out of whack there but some people have a tendency to eventually turn violent no matter what while being drunk.
Avatar f tn They were used to treat schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders but newer antipsychotics such as Risperdal and Abilify have replaced them (and there are newer ones in development such as the glutamate antagonists that will not cause any form of movement disorders and promote a fuller recovery, one of which is glycine which I am under study for, read through my entries). Anti-anxiety agents such as Xanax do not cause any form of movement disorders.
Avatar n tn over a 1 year ago. sept 16 2016 I was given an injection of abilify maintaina. It;s like one of the longest acting injectable antipsychotics with a half life of 45 days. On top of that it turns out I don't even metabolise abilify so it took like 90 days or so for the side effects to even begin to lessen. It was absolute hell from the hour it was given. The only way I made it through it was some knowledge of oddball things inluding illicit dopamine drugs.
Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Avatar n tn Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.
Avatar n tn I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night. What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
Avatar n tn He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
Avatar m tn She is 39 years old. I have been trying to be hard-nosed and told her that she can't live with me anymore if she keeps on doing drugs. So, she left, and she went completely off the risperdal for about 3 days now. And, as I figured, she is currently in the hospital because of an episode. The people that she decided to "hang with" are enablers so they let her go cold turkey on the risperdal even though I told them that she could get psychotic if she does.
420308 tn?1203041262 I have also adjusted my diet by eating more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I have lost about 5 lbs. in 6 weeks. I feel as if the Seroquel is inhibiting my weight loss. I read that Metformin is now being prescribed to aid in weight loss for people on antidepressants. Has anyone had any success with losing weight while on these antidepressants? Has anyone tried Metformin for weight loss?
Avatar n tn I took Klonopin years ago for GAD, and remember the physical withdrawal being awful, and would like to avoid the benzo route if possible, but I don't know what else I can do given the current drugs, exercise, and meditation aren't enough. It can't possibly be good to be so anxious that I'm numb half the day, every day, but I'm desperate for help. Should I break down and try a benzo again?
Avatar n tn 4 Months after her last dose she got pancreatis and Bells Palsy and now her jaw moves back and forth under stress. Is Bells palsy linked to tardive dyskinesia? I read in the Facial Nerve Book that it is.
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
750223 tn?1234384662 Xanax is generally used for short term anxiety. Ativan is longer lasting and Klonopin and others have the longest half life and have the least potential for a person to build up a tolerance to. We have some websites listed with information about mood stabilizers. You could discuss all that information with your psychiatrist but follow their instructions as regards changing medications for your safety.
Avatar f tn Did not count the muscle relexants and the Klonopin helps with this but since it was originally prescribed for anxiety disorder it helps on standard psychiatric symptoms as well. The Klonopin has been 10 years now so that's the only consistent. Been through almost every known mood stabilizer and probably will keep trying them until I find the right match. The Clonidine patch has evened things out but it does run out after a few days so its not ideal.
741315 tn?1232458427 I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and ptsd. my inital diagnoses was did (disociative personality disorder). I am not sure what is exactly wrong with me and i am convinced that my doctors are not completely sure either. i currently take: * lamictal *citalopram *xanex *risperdone *ambien... its still hard to focus but its a different impedement on the meds its not the same kind of distraction or process. i want to stop taking them but i know how bad things are when i am not on them.
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
Avatar m tn Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage.
Avatar m tn I took 12.5mg of Seroquel as a sleep aid but I HATED this medicine. It has so many more negative potential side effects than any other sleeping pill- the benefits are in no way worth the risks. I have bipolar/panic disorder and every time I took seroquel I had a massive panic attack, ate a lot, then slept for 12+ hours. The longest I have ever slept on seroquel is 72 hours straight... it will knock you out. It also makes you feel sluggish and lethargic throughout the day...
Avatar f tn The longer you take it the less you will care if you ever have sex again. I am obsessive about sex and my dr had to take me off of it so I went to Risperdal. It was a nice alternative after the transfer period. It kept the voices from getting me nuts. I'm on Invega now because the Risperdal ruined my blood pressure and sugar levels. Being diabetic sux rox but I'll live with it if I don't have to hear them telling me I'm scum all the time.
Avatar f tn The past year or so though hes been showing signs of ADD or ADHD. His Dr has prescribed him Risperdal because and medication isnt something she just randomly hands out so I know he needs it. I just have a few questions that wont be answered until he sees another Dr which I am waiting for a referral to. My questions are: Whats the difference between ADD/ADHD? How will I be able to tell if the Risperdal is having a positive effect or a negative effect and how soon will I know of either?
Avatar f tn I found Risperdal fairly tolerable. Seroquel was somewhat more sedating and Zyprexa extremely so. The side effects I got are common to all (current) antipsychotics. The more important thing is if you can't tolerate Risperdal and need an antipsychotic you could ask your psychiatrist about changing to a different one. Even though they all basically work in the same manner they are different enough that one might easily be tolerable for you than another.
Avatar f tn Ive been on Klonopin for 2 months now and it has helped a lot with my anxiety. But it doesn't seem to be helping me with my mood swings. I'm very against SSRI's though I've been given prescriptions for Zoloft and Celexa, tried neither. I was prescribed Seroquel and it was horrible. I was also prescribed Risperdal but was hesitant to try it due to the reaction I had with the Seroquel.
