Avatar f tn One of the seminar topics is Down syndrome and Sexuality. I believe it covers everything from the small child, puberty, teen ages and adults. I myself can't wait to see the information. If there is anything I can find out for you, if you are far and can not attend, please do let me know. I would be happy to see if I can find out anything that you are curious about.
Avatar m tn I would want to know if anyone has experienced similar withdrawal syndrome from Risperidone or similar such anti psychotics and about how long could this withdrawal syndrome last after stopping this medicine as I am very distressed with this anxiety.Any responses and suggestions are welcome.
Avatar f tn After he explodes, he will run and hide to give himself time to recoup. (A problem at malls and other social situations. He is eight, and now he's having problems at school. Everyone agrees he's great after regaining control, he just can't seem to anticipate what sets him off. If I anticipate it and tell him the situation that might set him off, he can tell me when it gets "too much." he even leaves...which is great. The neurologist put him on risperdal.
Avatar f tn Mt son has tourette syndrome. 3 vocal and 8 physical. I could cate less about these issues. Problem: he also has intermittent explosive disorder. The doctor prescribed Risperdal. I've just read horrible things about it. What have other parents experienced with this drug? Is there a better alternative? He is already on mineral supplements, vitamin supplements, and fish oils.. Thank you for any "experience information.
Avatar n tn came every night like clock work my kids turned in to monsters like the warewolf does when the sun goes down in the movies .There was no order and the fighting and hitting and screaming and jumping and total disrespect to others in the house the entire 9 yards !So the Dr add a dose of Risperdal at night to help curve the extreme behavior changes when the pill wore off .
Avatar n tn Please do not stop Risperidone cold turkey. Please remain at the dose he is taking for next 2 weeks and see his Psychiatrist and she will taper it down or replace it with a medication called Clozaril if it is Tardive. Most likely it could be a temporary movement disorder called Akithisia which will go away once Risdone is stopped.Stopping Risperidone cold turkey can provoke an awful withdrawal syndrome or return of original symptoms so wait till you see his new doc.
Avatar m tn My roommate has been going on a psychotic episode for 4 weeks now. She was a functioning meth and marijuana user and didn't show any signs of psychosis until recently. Around the new year, she quit using meth for about 2 weeks. She then started using again, but not that much; maybe a couple times in a day or when she was tired. She more regularly smoked marijuana (MJ) because she says it helps her handle her anxiety.
Avatar n tn I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
Avatar f tn Risperdal has been shown to be successful in treating tic disorders, including Tourette syndrome. It is good to hear that the medication seems to be having at least some beneficial effect. As some of the individuals responding have mentioned, it is important to be working with a doctor who has experience treating this disorder and there are also some behavior therapy options that have been shown to work. The one that I have seen the most empirical support for is called "habit reversal.
Avatar n tn He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.
Avatar n tn He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
Avatar f tn I was recently taking off Risperdal I tapered like every other day for 3 days,is this enough taper would i have withdrawal,i know in the past they have just stopped me off it,,is it a drug that needs taperred,,i was on 1/2 mg since sept 13 08
Avatar f tn You could also work on a good bedtime routine eg. some physical activity to tire him out and then gently wind it down, ending with a bath and bed. As a last resort you will have to go with what works. But also google the drug name and side effects and question your doctor about all you read about it. I believe risperadal is linked to a condition that causes permanent tics, but research it yourself to be sure.
Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Avatar n tn Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.
Avatar n tn I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night. What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
Avatar f tn I got alarmed because they say if you have this then you should stop the meds at once as one might have developed malignant neuroleptic syndrome. I got very alarmed and phoned my psychiatrist who said this syndrome comes with fever. I took a pill of benzo and it stopped so he said it could be anxiety. I am very aware of the side effects of what i am taking but many if not all the drugs do too.
Avatar f tn Down syndrome people get such good care and support all over the world.. I was negative in my down syndrome and my midwife told me that even women who come back negative can end up having baby with down syndrome and women who get positive can end up having normal baby.. it can happen to any one.. i lost a baby prior to this baby and saw women crying on loosing there baby i had already made my mind i will never go for second level testings just incase if my baby does have down syndrome..
Avatar f tn Science is definitely not 100% just know that even if your baby does have it, down syndrome kids grow up and can be just as successful and happy as anyone without it.
Avatar f tn I'm about to be 35 and am not going to do any tests for down syndrome for the simple reason that nothing will change weather I know or not. I will still have this baby, care for it and love it just as my other children. So I see no point of waisting resources and worrying for nothing.
Avatar f tn A 'normal' life isn't important and the end of the day, what is normal? Down syndrome children and adults are amongst the happiest people I've ever met and are totally able to learn to their best ability and get jobs and relationships etc.
Avatar f tn I had my texst for down syndrome whn I was 15 to 18 weeks like normal and all the test came back negative... I started seeing a new doctor whn I was 20 weeks and had all my blood test work done over whn they tested my blood work again the said my test came back and my baby could possibly have down... I am so confused cuz I dnt understand how one doctor could say neg and the next say positive.
Avatar f tn Hi....my husband has a brother with down syndrome. ..I was wondering and concerned if there is a chance that my baby can have this problem...and is there any exams I can do to know whether there is a chance or not? Am 10 wks pregnant and am very concerned.
Avatar f tn We were told that our baby is extremely high risk for Downs and offered us abortion and said that we needed to see a specialist right away. We asked our family and friends and they said the test was bogus and they were told that too and their babies are "normal". Any thoughts on it???
