We are very new to this, but my question is my loved one has been on Depakote and Risperdal for 8 days now and the mood stabilizer seems to be working great, completely stable in moods but still in the hospital. My concern is that the delusions are still there and even getting worse. Could it be the confinement or is there another medication to address this. What is the Risperdal supposed to address. Are there medications available to address the delusions?
Other meds, 600 mg Lithium 2x a day and 1000 Depakote 2 times a day.
He was released with 2000 mg of Depakote and 2mg of Risperdal daily. He is doing quite well except for having to be hospitalized for a minor surgery and a temp, which during this time the depakote and risperdone were held for three days. Just before being added back he began to show symptoms of the delusions again, after being back on meds none whatsoever. My question is he doesn't seem to be typical Bipolar, never has had the depressions part only the manic, psychotic phase.
I currently take Depakote, Risperdal and Cogentin (the latter to control the tremor from the Risperdal) and my doctor mentioned I could probably try Abilify instead. This regimen keeps my moods very stable (although a little bit unmotivated and depressed all the time) but I am concerned about what I feel is mental confusion, although it is hard to blame that on a particular drug, other health factors, advancing age, eating habits or something else.
For the past two weeks I have been taking Risperdal and Depakote and have had terrible symptoms of acid reflux. Nausea, vomitting, belching, dizziness, etc. I have never had these sort of symptoms before. Could taking these medications together cause these symptoms? I have taken Risperdal in conjunction with other medications previously and have had no problems.
My son is 10yrs old and is on four different medications: Tenex, Zolof, Depakote and Risperdal(new). Now I wonder am I over medicating my son? Is his liver going to be shot by the age of 18? He does have a lot of behavioral problems and agression and he has tics . I've tired other ADHD meds but they don't work he tends to get even more agressive. Or he starts getting his tics. Should I get him off his meds? Or how do I get him off so many meds?
I have mood changes. It affect my family. I'am screaming and crying, also depresed and nervous. I'am taking lithium, depakote and haldol. My pdoc give me a list of thinks to do every day (exsise, restriction in coffie consuming, etc), but i could not manage to come back in ,,normal,,..Please if you have these problems tell me how you are managing to control yourself.
I am wondering if this is a plausible cause. He was also on Risperdal and Depakote and Trileptal and Terazadone and Lamictal, of course not all at the same time. I am sure I spelled all these meds wrong. We are having trouble finding any professional who will take an active interest in the urgency of our problem with both the aggression and the onset of these tic behaviors. We really need some help.

My Dr. has prescribed to me Depakote ER 500 mg and my husband has been out of work until recently and our insurance hasn't kicked in and I have not been able to refill my prescribe and have been 6 days with out taking the depakote.
For the past 2 months my husband who was diagnosed 4 months ago with BP has been gradually feeling better with Depakote and Risperdal. For about a month now his father and I really thought his psychotic symptoms had disappeared, he has been 'okay' at home (depressed, sometimes cranky) but nothing exaggerated!
Yesterday he was extremely angry and said al these 'crazy' things about me and other people, totally psychotic.
I am currently 26 and just about impotent, i can still get it up but it takes quite a bit of coaxing, i feel blessed that i can get it up at all after years of risperdal depakote seroquel and now im currently on zyprexa, i think shrinks are the biggest quacks and think you should check out this site

Yes My Husband is taking Depakote and Risperdal, he sees does a 2-hour therapy session weekly and sees his Psychiatrist 2x a month.
and my 2 year old was never in danger, I was able to keep her away from the chaos and now the whole family is home! My husband too! And now that he is feeling better and able to 'concentrate' better he's taking care of our 2 year old and loving her pretty much the same way he has always done it--he is an amazing father!!!!!!
m on Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, Depakote, Risperdal, and Ativan for anxiety as needed. I try not to take the Ativan unless I really, really need it, every now and then to relax to get to sleep.
I've also always had a hard time understanding my irritability and trying very hard to identify the "cause" of it, i.e., is it from mania or depression?As most of us know, it can be either or both in cases of mixed. The handling of it is not as easy as everyone thinks.
jHas anyone tried taking two antidepressants along with a mood stabilizer and had good results? I'm currently taking Depakote and Cymbalta, but thinking of adding Prozac for added depression benefits. I'm also on an antipsychotic, Geodon.
The doc wasnt gonna give me anymore cause i told him i was smoking pot. I was later hospitalized again and given ativan and risperdal again....after i had quit the pot use and the alcohol use...but didnt like the effect of them this time. So i tapered myself off them and straight into a manic episode with psychosis. I was hospitalized again and put on a higher dose of risperdal, and later ended up getting a 25 mg shot every 2 weeks. this went on for nearly 3 months.
