Risperdal and depakote

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal and depakote

risperdal

I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania). My manic states don't last that long and it confuses me cause I am in somewhat of denial about my diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder which i've had for three years now. I get intense anger and irratability for no reason other than I get pissed off eaily.
I currently take depakote, Risperdal and Cogentin (the latter to control the tremor from the Risperdal) and my doctor mentioned I could probably try Abilify instead. This regimen keeps my moods very stable (although a little bit unmotivated and depressed all the time) but I am concerned about what I feel is mental confusion, although it is hard to blame that on a particular drug, other health factors, advancing age, eating habits or something else.
For the past two weeks I have been taking Risperdal and depakote and have had terrible symptoms of acid reflux. Nausea, vomitting, belching, dizziness, etc. I have never had these sort of symptoms before. Could taking these medications together cause these symptoms? I have taken Risperdal in conjunction with other medications previously and have had no problems.
Recently my step-daughter (7) attempted suicide. Since then she has been placed on Risperdal, depakote, Paxil and soon will be on Ritalin if her mother ok's it. I realize she obviously has a problem because she tried to commit suicide, however, she has all of these horrible behaviors ONLY with her mother, i.e. anger, depression, aggresive, hyper, etc. When she's is with us she is happy, attentive, playful - not hyper, listens, and behaves.
Is depakote more effective than risperdal? Is risperdal and depakote both treating the same thing? Why both? Would risperdal in a higher dose, help the older brother? We are told the older brother's behavior has always been worse then the younger brother, so then we are confused why the younger brother is on so much medication and behaves fine, and the older brother is not, and behaves so badly.
Perhaps a simple dose adjustment will help with the side effect of sedation - speak with the prescribing doctor about this. The Risperdal and depakote can be taken together without difficulty. If your son does eventually go off the depakote, it will have to be weaned. Hopefully the doctor is obtaining blood levels of this medication to be sure about its effectiveness within the therapeutic range.
Just curious. I am taking only 375 mg of depakote daily (125mg in the morning and 250 before going to bed alone with .5mg or 1mg of xanax). For the past week I have been feeling numbness in my lips and inside my mouth. It even feels funny when I wash my mouth. My regular doctor told me to go to my dentist, because he thinks one of my wisdom teeth is impacting my jaw. It might be, since it hurts when I yawn. But the dentist cannot see me until May the 5th.
Wasn't the Dr supposed to have tapered him off the 3 meds? and wasn't the Dr. supposed to have been checking depakote levels, and liver panels and stuff? My son will not be going back to that Dr, but I need some answers. Did I mention that now I have to literally take food away from my son because he does not know when he is full and yesterday drank about 30 8 ox glasses of water????? What do I do?
Hi everyone, My husband has been taking Risperdal for about 3 months now and he is complaining about weight gain. indeed he gained some weight, but he is so thin that it's hard to notice. For now I'm trying to keep our healthy diet as it has always been and keep telling him to do some exercise, I do Yoga and Biking...but he is still in a state of 'depression' and somewhat confused with a really Bad Manic Episode he had 3 months ago, so I'm going easy on him about the exercise.
but I don't know you, I know I was put on a drug that could do that, depakote.. and I started to crave but I ended up going to Overeaters anon... I realized food was like crack to me... it's everywhere and when a pill gives you the perma munchies.. hell you want to eat, the drug ended up giving me super angry moments so I stopped it anyways... but those cravings whoa...
depakote is an antimanic and risperdal is an anti psychotic. They can be taken together, I have done it, but an 8yr old is awfully young. Is he seeing a psychiatrist to get these meds??
My son has been diagnosed with organic personality disorder and shizophrenia, paranoid type as a result of a severe brain injury. He is on risperdal, geodone, lithium and depakote, buspirone, fluoxotine. The psychotic and personality symptoms are minimized by this combination, but he seems SOOOO tired all the time. He is also complaining having a much harder time remembering things. I agree with his observation. His short term memory does seem appreciably poorer recently.
has prescribed to me depakote ER 500 mg and my husband has been out of work until recently and our insurance hasn't kicked in and I have not been able to refill my prescribe and have been 6 days with out taking the depakote.
Other meds, 600 mg Lithium 2x a day and 1000 depakote 2 times a day.
I agree with Rebbecca, it's a high dose to start with and those can be side effects. It can make you feel very out of it, and tired, have difficulty concentrating and retaining information as well as other side effects. It's also a medication that most drs monitor the blood levels of also, so you probably want to ask for blood work to make sure he has acceptable blood levels built up at this point, not to high and not too low.
I'm currently taking depakote, Geodon, Cymbalta and trying to taper off from my Lamictal. Has anyone had really good luck with any other antidepressants or other medsin relation to these other drugs? I've been on the Cymbalta for 3 years now, the depakote for 17, Lamictal for 1 year, and the Geodon since August. I'm confused at to what's working as I'm not feeling any better. Sure, I make it through the day, but I'm a good actress. inside, I'm feel like I'm fighting a losing battle.
You did not provide information on why your friend has been taking Risperdal and depakote. Risperdal (Risperidone) is an antipsychotic that is used primarily for hallucinations and delusions. The hallucinations or delusions can be part of a number of disorders including Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive disorder, Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorder. depakote is indicated for seizures but has also been found to be beneficial for Bipolar (manic-depressive) patients.
The goal is to get her off all these other meds and she would be only on intuniv 2mg, concerta 18mg, and depakote 500mg. Her doctor has told me to slowly reduce the night risperdal which I have but when I do give her the dosage she urinates the bed. I am not too sure what to say with my child never bed wetting before.
I take risperdal and depakote i exersise regularly i was wondering if was safe to take any muscle stack supplements or any dietary supplements while on these medications and if there is any sideeffects with them.
my 9 yr old son who has been diagnosed with both forms of adhd has been on concerta risperdal n depakote for a while recently he was taken off the risperdal due to growth of breast we have noticed that he has been making odd facial expressions and he doesnt realize hes doing it i have caught them on tape and im completely confussed as to if this is something already that has been an issue or a new development any advice on what i should do about this matter wld be very helpful
My grandson is 9 and has ADHD and Autism. He takes Depakot 1000mg daily and Risperadon 2mg daily. I have noticed an increase in his aggression within the last two weeks. Do these two meds have a tendency to increase aggress?
I have had several psychiatrists and they all leave me on an antipsychotic. Also, I am taking Effexor XR, 300 mg and Risperdal 2 mg. My doctor has not prescribed a mood stabilizer. I have asked my doctor if I will always need an antipsychotic. His response is he would be afraid for me to try. Does this sound right to you? No mood stabilizer although I was manic for about six to eight months? Do most doctors prescribe mood stabilizers for their bipolar patients?
Any way maybe you could tolerate a low dose of risperdal if it helps. I also take Ativan, lithium, and buspar If I could tolerate the twitches, and maybe not everyone gets them, I'd take Haldol.
My panic attacks are trigged by derealizaion, depersonalizatuon, and psychosis. I began toaking Risperidone (Risperdal) for a few days. Beforre I took the medicine, I had been having psychotic breaks. For the most part, the mediine help my mind slow down, but my psychosis is bad. When I get into a qiuet room, or place that's where the ems begin. I hear low talking-- or loud sounds. Usually the "voice" just say random things, like their advertising something.
-- I was diagnosed rather late, at 34, and prescribed depakote and subsequently Neurontin. Only side-effects have been sleepiness. Aside from that, elevated hypomanic phases, if that's even a term, were still a problem. A new doc has pulled the neurontin in favor of risperdal, 2x a day at .25mg each. I sleep wonderfully and, oddly enough, perhaps, feel better. Thoughts?
I was on citalopram (don't know if this is in the ssri group) 60mg whilst on depakote but that just didn't do any good either and I came off both (separately). If not SSRI's then what else is there that I can look up and see if it is licensed over here (UK) so I can discuss with my psych next week.
On Nov 13 i was taken off risperdal and switched from ativan to xanx.
