Avatar n tn This is the first study that evaluates the relationship between alcohol and cannabis use in patients with HCV and those coinfected with HCV/HIV. It is of great importance to disease management that physicians understand the factors influencing HCV disease severity, especially those that are potentially modifiable. The use and abuse of both alcohol and marijuana together is not an uncommon behavior.
Avatar m tn The primary role of cannabis is to stimulate appetite, reduce nausea and vomiting, and treat joint pain. This role is applicable to HCV patients undergoing chemotherapy, those with cancer or cirrhosis, and those with joint pain and headache. Cannabis is far less toxic than other medications that might be prescribed for these conditions and where liver impairment is concerned, it is vital to avoid toxicity.

Avatar n tn t have evidence that a person should forgo chemo and just use cannabis. But there is evidence that cannabis is useful for the side effects of chemo, and it does not interfere with the benefits (and sometimes makes the chemo more effective). If Cannabis was a terrible immuno-suppressant, we would not have thousands of studies that show that cannabinoids slow the growth of cancer cells.
Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Avatar n tn Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.

Avatar m tn It cuts down a lot on the carcinogens, which are probably the particles that cause damage. You can also try making butter from cannabis and use it that way instead of smoking it. Just Google and you will find answers to all this. Your doctor has to prescribe it for medical use, then you need to apply in your state for a Medical Marijuana Card. I would not smoke it and not have a Medical Marijuana Card.
Avatar m tn She is 39 years old. I have been trying to be hard-nosed and told her that she can't live with me anymore if she keeps on doing drugs. So, she left, and she went completely off the risperdal for about 3 days now. And, as I figured, she is currently in the hospital because of an episode. The people that she decided to "hang with" are enablers so they let her go cold turkey on the risperdal even though I told them that she could get psychotic if she does.

2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
Avatar m tn kevwaw, Sorry to hear about the panic attacks and anxiety. I was a heavy cannabis user for over 10 years until around the age of 27. I can attest it worsened my anxiety issues. I've had bad moments where I felt like I was going to pass out when I just wasn't in the right state of smoking it. Those were rare occasions. I noticed when I stopped smoking it for the first time, I started back and immediately experienced over-sensitive feelings.
Avatar m tn Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage.

It was a nice alternative after the transfer period. It kept the voices from getting me nuts. I'm on Invega now because the Risperdal ruined my blood pressure and sugar levels. Being diabetic sux rox but I'll live with it if I don't have to hear them telling me I'm scum all the time.

Avatar f tn We don't have medicinal mary jane where I'm at, but I do know that my husband takes an occasional toke to relieve his severe aches/pains/migrains...the same kind that pills were unable to achieve. But do beware: if you have an addictive personality...pot will be addictive for you too. Avatar f tn I found Risperdal fairly tolerable. Seroquel was somewhat more sedating and Zyprexa extremely so. The side effects I got are common to all (current) antipsychotics. The more important thing is if you can't tolerate Risperdal and need an antipsychotic you could ask your psychiatrist about changing to a different one. Even though they all basically work in the same manner they are different enough that one might easily be tolerable for you than another.
