Risperdal and blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal and blood pressure

risperdal

674607 tn?1240017232 Youre on 2 different SNRI anti depressant drugs for one thing.. Puzzling.. Lithium can actually lower blood pressure in some cases, Risperdal does not have it listed as a side effect, Clonazepam lowers blood pressure but Dexedrine can cause hypertension and does - its a common side effect. Its also an amphetamine and a bad idea for most bipolar patients.. Call your doctor ok.
Avatar f tn I was on Lithium for almost 2 yrs and I can tell you it can certainly screwup your sex drive. I went from 20-30 minutes of bliss to 10 minutes of strain too. The longer you take it the less you will care if you ever have sex again. I am obsessive about sex and my dr had to take me off of it so I went to Risperdal. It was a nice alternative after the transfer period. It kept the voices from getting me nuts.
Avatar m tn Having lowered blood pressure when sitting is more of a concern but it depends on the degree of blood pressure drop. In general people do respond well to Risperdal but each person responds differently to each medication. They are still understanding why people react differently to different medications and it will take some time before they know which specific medications will help each person.
Avatar n tn Additionally, I read that it can increase heart beat and fluctuate blood pressure. Her blood pressure is already high and she is on several medications to control that. I just think my mother is on way too much medication that is all counteracting each other. Her main issue at the current time is her cellulitis and open sores. She has already been in the hospital for 10 days and I am worried that if not properly treated she will be right back.
886552 tn?1241590297 Risperdal is a generally tolerable medication but can cause some cognitive blunting like all current antipsychotics and a slight drop in blood pressure. Usually those effects mitigate over time. If this has continued to be a problem speak to your psychiatrist and ask them exactly what's going on and then perhaps they could adjust things so you feel better.
Avatar n tn Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.
1432824 tn?1283383088 I am getting more frequent heart palpitations and my OB/GYN has said that my blood pressure has been high lately when I never had hypertension before. From the research I've done people with similar symptoms seems to diagnosed with anxiety issues and my question is - Are these symptoms of mine just anxiety and stress over my recent health troubles or is there something more serious I should be concerned about?
Avatar n tn I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Avatar m tn Risperdal really did not help me sleep either, just made me dizzy and tired. What other medications is he on? Risperdal is not typically used alone, but as a booster to help other meds. I threw mine in the trash after three days, due to it making me so dizzy. The doctor only gave me a sample to see if it would help me sleep so it is not a medication I had to continue. I am already on an excellent combo of Lithium/Wellbutrin and quite stable.
Avatar m tn Clozapine or Clozaril can cause severe blood dyscrasias, like low white blood cell counts, which can be dangerous and lead to infection. I think you are supposed to get your blood drawn every few months when you are on that. Tardive dyskinesia is reversible if caught early, I think after a year of being on the same drug and ignoring the symptoms can you have the permanent kind. I would try the resperdal. See what happens.
Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Avatar n tn We are very new to this, but my question is my loved one has been on Depakote and Risperdal for 8 days now and the mood stabilizer seems to be working great, completely stable in moods but still in the hospital. My concern is that the delusions are still there and even getting worse. Could it be the confinement or is there another medication to address this. What is the Risperdal supposed to address. Are there medications available to address the delusions?
Avatar n tn I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night. What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
Avatar n tn He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
Avatar m tn She is 39 years old. I have been trying to be hard-nosed and told her that she can't live with me anymore if she keeps on doing drugs. So, she left, and she went completely off the risperdal for about 3 days now. And, as I figured, she is currently in the hospital because of an episode. The people that she decided to "hang with" are enablers so they let her go cold turkey on the risperdal even though I told them that she could get psychotic if she does.
Avatar n tn 4 Months after her last dose she got pancreatis and Bells Palsy and now her jaw moves back and forth under stress. Is Bells palsy linked to tardive dyskinesia? I read in the Facial Nerve Book that it is.
Avatar f tn What's akathisia?
Avatar n tn My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills. I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
Avatar m tn Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage.
Avatar f tn The past year or so though hes been showing signs of ADD or ADHD. His Dr has prescribed him Risperdal because and medication isnt something she just randomly hands out so I know he needs it. I just have a few questions that wont be answered until he sees another Dr which I am waiting for a referral to. My questions are: Whats the difference between ADD/ADHD? How will I be able to tell if the Risperdal is having a positive effect or a negative effect and how soon will I know of either?
898530 tn?1268618782 The Neurologist just started her on Risperdal Tabs 0.5mg but after reading the possible side affects and all the other information, I am a bit worried. Has your child taken this drug and improved or benefited from it? I'd love for you to share your experiences and story with me if possible. Hoping this will really work but I am a bit anxious. Hope to hear from you! Take Care, Kimmys Mom.
Avatar f tn I found Risperdal fairly tolerable. Seroquel was somewhat more sedating and Zyprexa extremely so. The side effects I got are common to all (current) antipsychotics. The more important thing is if you can't tolerate Risperdal and need an antipsychotic you could ask your psychiatrist about changing to a different one. Even though they all basically work in the same manner they are different enough that one might easily be tolerable for you than another.
Avatar n tn In the past 4 months he has gained nearly 20 lbs, drinks and urinates constantly and craves carbs and sweets. He was always a normal weight before. The most recent fasting glucose registered extremely high and now the psychiatrist is recommending a glucose tolerance test. I am having a very difficult time controlling his fluid and carb intake, however the Risperdal is necessary to control psychotic episodes.
