Risperdal and alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal and alcohol

risperdal

I also have had suicidal thoughts within the last year and have attempted suicide twice, both times I was drunk. Oh, and I have a drug and alcohol abuse past as well but I gave it up twenty years ago which when the subject of Bipolar first came up, and I trialed Lithium which I did not think helped me at the time which was supposed to be diagnostic. I also have anxiety that is not being addressed cause I just can't see me taking some many meds.
He is on Sodium Valproate 1 g and Risperdal 3mg. I would like to know how much alcohol is permissible for a person with bipolar. He says he wants to have two drinks a week on Sundays. Is that harmful? He never used to drink before but recently he has been having alcohol every weekend.
If at any time drinking starts to become a concern that happens regularly a dual recovery group for a person with a psychiatric disability and alcohol related concern can be of help. Mental health support groups such as NAMI can be helpful in general for sharing coping solutions.
My concern is whether the MJ is the cause of her not getting better and whether taking risperdal, cojentin, and smoking it is okay? I read that MJ is not good if schizophrenic, and okay if bi-polar.
I looked up the medication she is taking on the internet and was shocked at what i found. Risperdal- is a medication for treating schizophrenia and psychotic disorders. Benztropine- anti-Parkinsons, also used to combat side effects of anti-psychotic medications. Wellbutrin- used to treat major depression, bipolar depression (i dont know what that is), treat chronic fatigue and ease cocaine cravings. I havn't confronted her about this because i dont know enough about it.
My lil' bro overdosed on psylocibins last year and is now on Risperdal to control his insane thoughts. He was and now is still taking (Zoloft or Effexor, one or the other). He told me that his psychiatrist told him he could have a few beers. (I am just finishing a Mental Health Concepts class and learned that Psych Meds do not mix with alcohol. Plus I think he's an alcoholic, since he drinks 10-14 beers at a time).
I have been worying a lot lately about the possible consequences of mixing alcohol and medication. From 2006 to mid 2010, I was taking the prescription medications Focalin, Zoloft, and from about 2008-2010, risperdal. What I am owrried about is that I would occasionally drink while I was taking these medicines, even though I knew it wasn't a good idea, I figured nothing bad would happen. My question is is there any risk of brain damage when these specific medications are combined with alcohol ?
Yesterday my physician added Risperdal (15 mg.) and suggested that I try aderal. Have read on the web that these drugs are very addicting and there may be difficulty in withdrawal. But I really need a good night's sleep. I can handle the depression if I can get 7 hours sleep. What are the longer acting benzodiazepenes? Will there be difficulty in withdrawing? What antidepressant would you suggest adding to Effexor? Thanks.
I don't know the exact cause, but it is more than likely that this has been building up before you went to the hospital, and you have been trying to control it with alcohol and tranquilizers, and that lead to the hospital. The best thing you can do for yourself now is to get to a good psychiatrist who can work with to find the right combination of medications to get rid of your extreme anxiety so you can begin to funcion better and get more pleasure out of life.
He started stealing at age 6 and continued to do so for years to come, resulting in time in jail. He also got involved with drugs and alcohol abuse. He has seen multiple psychiatrists, been on all sorts of medications and behavior modification programs with little to no positive results. My questions are: Has anyone ever heard of a "behavior" tic? Do others out there have similar problems?
It's hard telling but I was put on Geodon and then Risperdal and finally Abilify and I have a history of alcohol abuse and you're not supposed to drink while on any of those and I never did anything like that but those are different medications and I am a different person altogether. I would say if he doesn't normally do this ever while intoxicated something is out of whack there but some people have a tendency to eventually turn violent no matter what while being drunk.
I don't understand why you're on two antipsychotics at the same time, being Abilify and Risperdal. Anti-psychotics are supposed to help with anxiety.
03, 2013 By Ravikumar Chockalingam MD and Dragan Svrakic MD Special to The Kansas City Star Imagine the public outrage if a toxic drug was approved without any regulation for “recreational” use in adults and children that suppresses the immune system, causes schizophrenia, mental illness, brain and lung disease including cancer and death. Also, many long-term and frequent users of this toxic drug have lowered IQs, impaired memory, poor judgment and diminished driving ability.
I was on a tapering dose of 0.5 mg of Risperdal and had a week left to stop it but due to a lot of anxiety I took an additional 1 mg dose of Risperdal today.Does it mean that I have to start from scratch and again take an extra week"s 0.5 mg to complete 2 weeks at 0.5 mg or is it alright for me to continue to taper and stop Risperdal after 7 days as advised by my Psychiatrist. My Psychiatrist is out of town and is unavailable.
I am so worried that it is something so serious. I have seen 4 different doctors and had blood work and urinalysis done and always given anxiety as diagnosis. I am currently taking lexapro for about 3 weeks now.. seems to help a little but annoying head pressure/pain will not seem to go away. Does anyone have any advice?
I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
So I told the Doctor and now he has prescribed Risperdal. I don't mind that but every website that I look at rarely makes reference to Risperdal being prescribed for anxiety, but for schizophrenia and bipolar. So now that you know a good portion of what's going on, here are my questions. I don't expect any answers that will solve what I'm dealing with, just basically some idea at what I'm looking at.
I also feel weak arms and legs from the constant anxiety and trembling. Doctors have never seen this before, and are clueless how to treat me. PLEASE SOMEBODY I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!

I just can't fall asleep at all. I've tried lunesta, ambien, restoril and risperdal, Trazadone and serequel. Thinking about asking for remeron.. Any ideas of what might work?
Since I started tapering the medications in January (d/c’d zyprexa first ), I have experienced chronic abdominal pain that comes and goes. With a history of alcohol used that stopped 3 years ago, I still worry about my liver. My labs have all been normal over the years and I had a normal ultrasound a couple of months ago.
Body odor can be caused by many things from hormones, medications etc. I know a guy who is on risperdal and he smells like sour milk, even though he bathes every day too. I also know people who smell like BO and stinky feet without breaking a sweat, Not fun for those around them!
So I quit smoking cigerettes,weed,k2, and all my anger and personel problems toward everybody and wanted to change completely into a good person. I started talking to god directly and thought he was working in my life but carried it too far and had mental breakdowns. Now Im sober and trying to deal with my sypmtoms. Doctors gave me anti-psychotis resperidone for bi-polar. Could it be seratonin poisoning or something else? Any advice would help so much, Im desperate.
Both boys were regularly exposed to several prenatal drugs and alcohol. The older one is now 8. He has ADHD and OCD, and is the height/weight of an average 5 year old. He is on medication for the ADHD, but struggles in school because he gets frustrated so easily. He has meltdowns over minor things, whines and cries regularly, and hides when he gets angry. I suspect that he has some type of anxiety disorder, but it hasn't been diagnosed yet.
My son who has been diagnosed as bipolar 3 yrs ago at age 29 is on 100 mg Lamictal and 3 mg of Rispedal. Is otherwise symptom free and functioning at a high level (prestigious work & economically) but in spite of his young age and great looks/gifts he seems to have lost the zest and wonderment for life. Background: he had a perfectly smooth and healthy life up till when 3 yrs ago he decided to take diet pills and then a fresh graduate Dr. of Osteopathy just handed him packs of Lexapro.

I have just been diagnosed as bipolar after years of being diagnosed with major depression with psychotic features. I am taking 1 mg of Risperdal daily and Effexor. For the last month during the night prior to being fully awake, I have been aware of smelling something. I don't remember what it smelled like, but have had this happen a number of times. I am wondering if this could be olfactory hallucinations? Would you please tell me what olfactory hallucinations are like?
Sometimes people will have depressive and manic symptoms all mushed together, such that they are miserable and agitated and grandiose and terrified either all at once or in rapid succession. Many patients with bipolar disorder do not respond well to the types of antidepressants you have tried but do much better on drugs known as mood stabilizers.
