Common Questions and Answers about Risks of zofran in pregnancy

zofran

Avatar f tn I lost around 40 pounds in the first two trimesters even with taking it but it was the only possible way of getting food in front of my mouth let alone in my mouth. Now at 30 weeks I don't throw up a lot but my nausea is horrible so I need my zofran! I've taken well over 240 pills since day one of pregnancy and my baby boy is super healthy and strong!
Avatar f tn I have terrible morning sickness and I was given a prescription for ondansetron 4mg which is the generic version of zofran. I'm scared to take it because of the possible side effects and the warnings I've seen on TV. I don't want to take any risks when it comes to my baby. Any thoughts on this?
Avatar f tn I haven't heard of any risks and my doctor is pretty straight forward!
Avatar f tn I would highly recommend Zofran. It is used for nausea and it works WONDERS! They have other drugs likes Phenergan and Compozine, but the side effects are long and AWFUL (I know because I have taken both). I just looked at the med fact on Zofran and while it doesn't say much about breastfeeding while taking Zofran, there aren't any known problems with taking it during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I took it both my last pregnancy and this one, both in first trimester. I have had severe morning sickness...or all day sickness, wasn't keeping anything down at all. Sometimes you have to weigh the benifits over the risks. I was losing weight and am small to begin with, and it came down to what was going to be best for baby. I was lucky if I could kerp water down for 5 minutes before it came back up...so I had to do something.
Avatar f tn So I've been seeing all this negative stuff about zofran causing all kinds of birth defects to unborn babies. I'm 30 weeks pregnant & I've been taking zofran my entire pregnancy, so it's worrying me. Has anyone else taken zofran? What are your opinions on it?
Avatar f tn They give people the impression that the medication is unsafe. Your doctor has taken an oath to care for you and do the best in terms of this. Zofran is used by millions of people without incident (myself included). I would not let tv commercials and a rare reporting of a side effect rule what you do. Trust your doctor.
Avatar f tn I have learned to eat yogurt and drink tons of fluids and lots of fiber to combat the constipation! Zofran has been my best friend through this pregnancy...I can't imagine how horrible it would have been without it!!!

12380259 tn?1424964291 I was on it for a while as well. I did a lot of research and found that there havent been any cases in humans that show deformations or anything but because it showed in lab tests with animals they say it's possible it could happen. Lawyers jumped all over it and put out commercials and are trying to make money off it now talking about the so called "dangers" of zofran. I see them everywhere but still haven't heard of a single case of this happening to anyone.
Avatar f tn I am 35+5 and I took zofran at the beginning of my pregnancy. I have heard awful things about birth defects recently and now I am worried. Are there any mommies out there that have had any positive or negative experiences with zofran?
Avatar f tn I been really sick my first couple of mouths and my doctor had offered me the zofran medicine which I been taking for a while..I read up on the medicine and I saw so many bad comment about it causing birth defects to the baby my doctor or no one didn't tell me about this..what should I do?
Avatar f tn Just saw a class action suit on tv against Zofran during pregnancy saying of your baby is or was born with a heart defect or birth defect to call them..I was prescriped yesterday for this medicine and took one today. Has anyone else taken them?

Avatar f tn I've never heard of that being perscribed in pregnancy, I take zofran and or phenergan ...
Avatar f tn m very sick with this pregnancy and my doctor tried to give me everything but zofran like reglan, diclegis, phenergen, etc and none of the worked so they put me back on zofran which helps only a little bit.
Avatar f tn There are no adequate studies of the affects of these drugs in pregnant women. An antiemetic should be taken during pregnancy only if your dr determines that the potential benefit outweigh the risks. Nursing mothers who must take this drug should consider using infant formula.
Avatar f tn Based on recent studies regarding the association between Zofran use in early pregnancy and congenital cardiac malformations and oral clefts (cleft lip and palate), the FDA has cautioned against its use in pregnancy. There are also potential maternal risks associated with taking Zofran especially in pregnant women with electrolyte imbalance due to severe nausea and vomiting.
Avatar f tn m too nauseous to function. My obgyn said to take half a unisom with 50mg of vitamin B6 at bedtime and in the morning and that's helped a lot.
Avatar f tn I took zofran throughout my entire pregnancy. My son that is presently 16 years old was born with cleft of lip and soft palate and also had a heart murmor for the first year of his life. Genetic testing was performed in new orleans la to determine if the cleft was a hereditary case. Test results revealed that my sons case was said to be an isolated case meaning that he was not born with this birth defect from hereditary reasons.
Avatar f tn Make sure you drink lots of water. Lots and lots if water. If you have zofran, take it. If not, call your doctor and ask for some right away. Try to eat some soup. Rest. make sure you are staying hydrated!
Avatar f tn I took every form of Zofran, Phenergan, and even Thorazine (and eventually had a PICC line and TPN) during my first pregnancy. Sometimes you have to make sure your baby survives first by getting you through. By the way, she's perfectly healthy. I have also been taking it during this pregnancy and I know that I would have ended up on IV fluids without it.
Avatar f tn Zofran is perfectly safe for use in pregnancy. Its a category B medication meaning that no studies have found that it causes harm in humans, although some animal studies may have shown slight risk.
Avatar f tn B is considered pretty safe during pregnancy, C meds should be used if the benefits outweigh the risks because some studies in animals may have shown problems and there haven't been human studies done. There is also an A and a D...
