infection

Avatar m tn I'm having a hard time adjusting and not knowing for absolutely sure where the infection site is makes me feel even more alone. My doctor told me that where-ever it is, I've had it for some time already so there is low risk of transmission at this point due to not having a breakout, even without using antivirals. Still, I personally don't want to pose any risk to a partner.
Avatar m tn Finally, in terms or your HIV risk, condom protected sex is safe sex. There is no HIV risk from condom protected sex. As for oral sex, the quoted figure for HIV risk, if one has oral sex with an infected partner is less than 1 in 10,000 and, in my estimation that is too high. Some experts state there is no risk at all from oral sex. Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex.
415684 tn?1257329318 Has anyone experienced an infection at their port site. My port itself is fine .. but there is swelling, redness, and heat just above the port where there are a couple of tubes buried under the skin. I am in Canada, but intend to go to my MD's office tomorrow afternoon to have it checked. Anyone had this problem .. and how did you fix it?
1182479 tn?1273372414 If you have an infection at an injection site is more than likely an abscess. You need antibiotics now. do not wait until tomorrow. The reason for NOT waiting is two-fold. First , the longer you wait the worse the infection which increases the chance for more tissue damage. secondly, the infection is going to set up for a flare-up. See somebody TODAY, I'm sure if you call your PCP tey will se you on an emergent basis. Please keep us informed.
Avatar m tn So I want to know, under the theoretical conditions, if the nurse reuses the needle and the needle tube and then gives the patient an intramuscular injection, is there a risk of infection? What is the principle? What is the difference between using needles for intravenous drug use? Thank you!
Avatar f tn It would be really unlikely for this to be hsv2 for a couple of reasons - you already have antibodies for it, and your only risk was oral. Oral hsv2 is rare, and when it does occur, it rarely sheds, rarely recurs, and thus, almost never transmits. So hsv1 - it could be, but depending on the timing of the swabs, it would be unusual for swabs to miss it. I'd be interested to see what a PCR swab showed - it's more sensitive than a regular swab.

Avatar m tn I would exchange the IOL in the right eye and aim for zero and use a contact lens in the left eye. The risk of infection is very small if the contact lens is used properly. Another option is to have LASIK in the left eye. Dr. O.
418466 tn?1207114132 And some Humane Society branches have vet clinics for the public on site, which are staffed by very competent vets, and are often lower cost. Jaybay is right; you can't remove this on your own. If a vet won't remove the drain, there must be a reason beyond what you are saying.
Avatar f tn There’s no contact with his mouth at all. Is she at risk even if they did not touch where the original site of the cold sore was? Or after the week?
Avatar m tn My daughter needs dialysis CAPD (manual option not APD). She has undergone operation for catheter insertion. Has anyone seen any video as to how the CAPD is performed at home - manual CAPD (not connecting to an APD machine-these are available on youtube.com). The steps beginning from draining the solution, connecting new bag, may be dressing and covering exit site etc... can somebody post a link so that I can download?
Avatar n tn As you were already told on the HIV Prevention Community site, there is no risk of HIV infection from the exposure you describe, no matter who your partner was. Your partner indicated that she did not have HIV and most people do tell the truth. More importantly, there are no instances in which HIV has been acquired from receipt of oral sex. There is no reason for concern and no medical reason for HIV testing related to this encounter.

Avatar f tn if her hpv tests have been coming back negative then her body has suppressed the virus and can't be transmitted..you aren't at risk...and for all you know you already had the infection before you meet either women..hpv is said to be as common as the cold.

Avatar f tn With one eye blind from RD, and the other eye at high risk for RD and the risks of phakic IOL including loss of eye due to infection, cornea damage, inflammation in the eye, possible need to do a second operation to remove, I would wonder why anyone would take those risks. Not something I would tell one of my patients to do.
