Avatar m tn I went to see my prescribing APRN and she saw the rash and had me stop the Ribavirin but continue Sovaldi. The next day, I was unable to get out of bed due to the severe appearance of lymphedema in the same leg where the rash appeared. I am now waiting for the ambulance to take me to the ER on advice of my APRN. I am unable to put my feet onto the floor because of the intensity of the pain in both legs.
Avatar f tn I'm in the Telaprevir trial in week 13, so I finished the Telaprevir (or placebo) this past Wednesday. A day or two before that my scalp started itching. Yesterday it spread to the point that I had the itchies on almost half my body. Then I noticed tiny bumps where it itched worst. I took Benadryl, which didn't make it totally go away but brought it under control. It's better today but not gone. Just took another Benadryl.
Avatar f tn They are now using weight based dosages as opposed to the old school thinking that geno 2's & 3"s should take only minimum dosage of 800 mg. You need the riba agatha. Sides will be what they are and one more pill isn't going to make much pr any difference in that respect but it will make a significant difference in reaching SVR. Being overweight is one of the factors they determined effects the odds of reaching SVR.
Avatar n tn I got the incivek because I never got a rash from ribavirin during previous tx, but lucky me, after being sensitized by the incivek rash during this tx I did indeed get the ribavirin rash once the incivek was completed.
Avatar m tn Your rash may be due to Incivek, not Ribavirin, in which case lowering the dosage of Riba would not help. (I am not saying the rash is due to Incivek, but if the rash is due to Incivek, then lowering the Riba dose will not help ... unless the rash is also due to the Ribavirin.) Unless there is something we do not know, I do not understand why he is reducing the Riba dose. Generally speaking, when taking Inf.
Avatar n tn ve had my ribavirin reduced to 200 mg a day and will do my 18th peg shot on Friday. The ribavirin was reduced due to my rash. Unfortunately the rash is everywhere again. I have atarax, doxepin and clobitisol. These give minimal relief. Now my hair is just falling out like crazy. To be honest i think i could deal with all of this except the hair thing. Haven't checked with my doctor yet I thought I would check with the forum first but can I continue the peg without the RIBA?
2065676 tn?1331422440 Seriously though, just stay on top of it. Show it to your doctor at every visit. TalKe pictures to document the changes. Moisturizer your skin constantly. Cool, quick showers. (oh how I long for a soak in the tub). Stock up on eucerin body wash and lotion. Gold bond seems to work well for lots of people as well as Aveeno oatmeal baths to Sooth the skin..
5045042 tn?1365890100 For serious skin reactions, including rash with systemic symptoms or a progressive severe rash, Incivek, peginterferon alfa, and ribavirin must be discontinued immediately. Discontinuing other medications known to be associated with serious skin reactions should be considered. Patients should be promptly referred for urgent medical care [see Warnings and Precautions (5.1)].
Avatar f tn Since Ribavirin also causes anemia, there is a synergistic effect when Tpr and Ribavirin are taken together. Ribavirin causes rash, too, but sometimes the Tpr rash is severe enough that subjects have had to stop tx. So yes, the symptoms are similar to SOC tx, but they may be magnified when the third drug is added. Congratulations on starting tx, glad you're doing well. Welcome to the forum. This is a great place for information and support.
446474 tn?1446347682 In these circumstances, telaprevir should be stopped immediately. Initially, peginterferon and ribavirin can be continued; however, if the rash does not improve, all treatment should be stopped. Dermatology consultation is appropriate in this setting. Reported in less than 1% of telaprevir recipients, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) are medical emergencies.
5045042 tn?1365890100 Hi sorry to hear about your rash. Not many treating with interferon and ribavirin anymore since the new meds like Harvoni and Viekira Pak and now many others were approved since 2013 2014. Curious where are you located that you were treated with interferon. What advise has your doctor offered? You may be able to find some help in the post hep c treatment community forum http://www.medhelp.
5045042 tn?1365890100 Please help feeling defeated. Completed the interferon/ribavirin/inciveck. Got a bad rash. Still recurring 2 and a half yrs later. Anyone else?
137025 tn?1217764741 s partners in the development of Telaprevir. The rash is still a big big issue but not enough to stop the trials and hopefully not enough to keep Telaprevir from being approved. If and when I get lucky enough to take Telaprevir, I'm sure the rash will be a big freakin deal, that's where all the good posters here will be a big help to me.
Avatar f tn s rash improved significantly after he stopped taking Incivek. He still had some rash, drying, and peeling from Ribavirin, but much less than when he was on Incivek. He had a prescription for Hydroxyzine, and he also had a prescription for Triamcinilone ointment. He used Eucerin body wash in the shower, and Eucerin lotion after showering.
1477811 tn?1321386453 As an integral part of the prescribed treatment for Hepatitis C, some individuals develop a rash from ribavirin – and this side effect can be exacerbated by exposure to intense sunlight or other UV light, such as tanning beds. In addition, consumers are urged to be aware of the greater potential for a photosensitive reaction when combining ribavirin with one of the above listed drugs known for increasing sensitivity to the sun.
Avatar m tn with a Dermatologist and have the Dermatologist determine what type of rash you have. A Dermatologist would better be able to determine what your rash is from and how to best treat it. I would also suggest getting an appt. with an experienced and competent hepatologist who is affiliated with a large medical center. You need a doctor who is familiar with all Hepatitis C Genotypes. Genotype 6 is not that common in the US so you want someone who is competent to treat it.
Avatar m tn I thought I would be rash free but found there was another rash hiding underneath. I was taken off the ribavirin for a week to get some control over it and then put back on a reduced dose of 200mg. Which is such a low dose I'm not sure it's going to be effective. I'm now at week 21 and my rash has morphed into cracked skin, thinning hair and dry scalp. I'm actually thinking of throwing in the towel and taking my chances. Sorry to vent like this but I'm conflicted.
Avatar m tn rash, nausea with or without vomiting, rectal issues (hemmorhoids, burning diarrhea, irching ..... also, but not as common severe rectal pain). Both Telaprevir and Ribavirin cause anemia. There are other side effects to treatment due to the three treating drugs (Interferon, Ribavirin, Telaprevir).
Avatar f tn Anemia and digestive problems are associated with Boceprevir but it is also a side effect of ribavirin and interferon Rash is associated with Telaprevir but it also a side effect of ribavirin and interferon. Fatigue and low blood values are a given with any treatment protocol and the degree to which people suffer from side effects varies from person to person. You will not know until you treat.
Avatar m tn t want other people around to think I hade lice or something, heh My rash is just from the ribavirin though, I know the incivek rash can be more serious though, so make sure you mentionit to your Doctor, at your next visit (hopefully it's soon?) and get him to prescribe the anti-itch pills, and a prescription cream.
Avatar f tn I looked at looking forwards rash pictures yesterday and I knew my rash was worse...the doctor said not to continuing...they wanted to take pictures of my rash and send it to incivek...guess it was way bad...thanks for the 8 week study...
Avatar n tn Basically i have this rash on my penis that is red and raised up a little bit. Its a little bit itchy but not so bad that i feel the need to see the doctor immediately. It also doesnt match the symptoms or pictures i have been able to look up enough for me to think it is herpes. One thing to add is that i have 2 pubic follicles at the base of the penis that have never produced hair that became inflamed around the same time. I am sexually active but always use a condom.
Avatar f tn I think that if you make it all the way through with Telaprevir/ribavirin/interferon for either 8 or 12 weeks and then ribavirin/interferon for the rest, up to the total of 24 weeks, odds of cure are probably more like 85% to 90%. BUT, if you don't tolerate the treatment well, you'll need to have a plan B. Your plan B will depend on what aspect of treatment turns out to be the problem.
