1635208 tn?1300807160 Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.
100019 tn?1335919717 For genotype 1 patients who cannot take interferon, the panel recommends sofosbuvir plus the HCV protease inhibitor simeprevir (Olysio), with or without ribavirin, again for 12 weeks. This off-label regimen has not been through full Phase 3 testing, but performed very well in the Phase 2 COSMOS trial.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been approved for Olysio and Sovaldi off label and on Medicare? I failed traditional interferon/ribavirin, have fibrosis stage 2, and waiting for approval.

1084115 tn?1385228589 Hope when daclatasvir (Daklinza) is approved here in November, many knowledgeable doctors will prescribe it 'off-label' with Sovaldi (sofosbuvir) for their patients. Gilead is so far off from completing studies of their NS5A inhibitor GS-5816, it could be another year at the very least before it reaches the market. If Gilead would have pursued those trials with Bristol back in 2012... if only...big sigh! Oh well, you can't change history. So onward my Hep C friends, onward!
Avatar f tn said he is not a good candidate to try again so they prescribed Sovaldi, Olysio and Ribavarin for 12 weeks. He has a wonderful dr who was able to get our insurance to approve the off label treatment. He is only 1 full week into treatment and has had only minor side affects- slight headache, and some brain fog in the evening. I've been reading that people who failed with interferon and ribavirin before don't achieve the results of someone who has never gone through treatment.
Avatar f tn Trials are recruiting in the research hospital where I live for Pharmasset with regular Interferon/Riba and PSI 7977 as well as PSI 7977, BMS 790052 and Ribavirin and the Interferon Lambda BmS 790052, Riba, BMS 650032 study. There may be more studies too but these were attractive because of the two which don't use interferon or the more benign form. These are for naive subjects. The lambda study is double blinded but the others are open label. All comments would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn s no big deal for a doctor to prescribe it off-label. All my drugs were off-label and insurance paid for it. May depend on your insurance company. I have 8 more shots to go to get to 76 weeks and then stop and see if it worked. If it didn't I'm hoping to get the sofo.
Avatar m tn It looks like most people in trials with cirrhosis doing the 24 weeks of Sovaldi and Ribavirin relapsed. Sounds like a waste of 168K on a treatment that is doomed to faliure. The Doctors are hesitant to do off label. I guess until the new Giliad combo is approved we are all stuck with these treatments that vary widely.
Avatar n tn However, the new triple med treatment (Interferon, Ribavirin, and a protease inhibitor) is having good results. If you are Genotype 1 and if you have not already done the triple med treatment, that would be something to definitely consider. If you treat, you would definitely need to be under the supervision of a Hepatologist who is affiliated with a transplant center. Talk with your Hepatologist and see if you are stable enough to begin treatment.
683231 tn?1467323017 Sov/Oly is no longer off label with 24 weeks recommended for patients with cirrhosis http://www.aidsmeds.com/articles/Olysio_Sovaldi_approval_1667_26373.shtml On November 5, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted approval of Olysio (simeprevir) and Sovaldi (sofosbuvir) to be used in combination for the treatment of genotype 1 of hepatitis C virus (HCV), Bloomberg News reports.
Avatar f tn Grammy, I remember you saying your doc was prescribing off label for all his patients. Do you have any idea what reasons he is giving to insurance....as in key words or arguments he has to support the off label. Hope that makes sense. So tired and it's been a frustrating day. Again, so very happy for your success! Can you spell CURED?
1747881 tn?1546175878 but should you end up in the SOC arm and get either 1000mg or 1,200mg ribavirin per day your chances of SVR will be equivalent to anyone following the label. you will also have the opportunity to use rescue drugs, if you can figure out how to pay for them.
