I looked up treatment of children after the above post. It appears that there are centers that specialize in treatment of children with liver disease. It isn't recommended that children under 3. Triple treatment isn't approved for treatment in children. The current treatment approved for children is Peg and ribavirin. There is lots to consider before treating someone so young. I personally would not unless it was life threatening. Remember people can live with hepatitis C.

Ribavirin is a Federal Drug Administration Pregnancy Category X product, indicating that its use is contraindicated in women who are pregnant. The package insert also states that ribavirin is contraindicated in men whose partners may become pregnant. Hi All- I know this may sound dumb, but my niece threw my bottle of Ribavirin Capsules against the wall (She was mad at her mom- and grabbed the first thing in sight- which happened to be my brand new bottle). I looked it up online, and they said never to "open, break, or chew on capsules.

At 4 months you still had not gotten rid of the Ribavirin from your system. Ribavirin takes 6 months to leave your body. So your have a very high chance your baby will be born with a birth defect. Your doctor also confirmed you have a very high chance your baby will be deformed. A fifty fifty chance is a gamble. Even if the baby appears normal at birth.....that could change over time. If it was up to me. I would never even consider having this baby.

I cannot emphasize ENOUGH how VERY IMPORTANT that the Ribavirin is to success in treatment. I was in a clinical trial with Telaprevir and was in the No Riba group and thus, did not clear. Had I been randomized into the Riba group, I would most likely have cleared this dumb virus. Riba is most definitely a necessary component!

The problems with sex involve the oral drug ribavirin; it’s considered teratogenic and is thought to cause birth defects in children. The mfgrs state that two forms of birth control be used, one of them barrier to prevent pregnancy; other than that, sexual intercourse or any other form of sex shouldn’t be an issue. Sorry to hear your wife is having troubles; hopefully the doctors can remedy them soon.
