ribavirin dosage

I am about 25 lbs overweight. could that be why? I think a lower dosage would be better as far as sides go. What do you guys think?

I am new to this forman , I start treatment in Jan. the Dr told me my dosage is pegasys 180 micrograms once week and ribapack 400-400 2 ties a day. Does this sound like what most of you all are taking. He told me it will be 24 weeks of treatment. do any of you all feel well enough to work while you take these meds? Do you drive ? For me, it simply backs up other studies that have found that appropriate dosage and effectiveness of ribavirin is vitally important in the beginning of treatment (other studies have been more specific to say the first 12 weeks in particular) and if pre-dosing can raise the effectiveness of ribavirin from a superior concentration standpoint in those early stages, it does make pre-dosing at least worth some consideration. Personally, I'd implement it if doing SOC, but that's me.

It is also important to eat a meal with Ribavirin but the meal does not have to contain 20 grams of fat. Ribavirin does absorb better if taken with a meal. I treated with Telaprevir, Interferon, and Ribavirin. I treated for a total of 48 weeks (12 weeks Telaprevir, Interferon, and Ribavirin, and then an additional 36 weeks of Interferon and Ribavirin). That was Sept. 2011 through Aug. 2012. I attained SVR (cure) and am now 2 years virus free.

That dosage seems a little on the low side. I'd be checking if your NP is going by a flat dosage ribavirin chart or a weight-based dosage (WBD) ribavirin chart. For Schering-Plough and at that weight, I'm thinking you'd be better off at 1000mg of Riba. That's my humble opinion on it. My doctor reduced my ribavirin dosage on 2/17/10 from 1200 to 600 and prescribed atarax (for the itching) because I was having severe rashes (still am) and he said if it got worse it could jeopardize my treatment . My ANC is 1.8 and my lymphocytes are down to .4 .. so no INF reduction because my ANC rebounded enough to offset my lymphocytes. Indefinite riba reduction. I'm very strong about my feelings on the importance of riba.
