Restasis use

Common Questions and Answers about Restasis use

restasis

Avatar m tn I went to my eye doctors office as a work in and diagnosed with concretions and dry eye. This doctor prescribed Lotemax, Restasis and told me I had chronic inflammation. He didn't check my pressure for glaucoma I didn't realize it until I went for my 6 week follow up and my pressure was 25 last year it was 14 and 16 and field tests looked good. So I may have drug induced glaucoma due to my family having it.
Avatar f tn I just got back from my optomologist & he prescribed for me Restasis. He mentioned that once you're on Restasis, it's an on going thing it's not really temporary. Is that the case, do I have to stay on it. I was hoping that once my eye is feeling better, I could just use artificial tears to keep my eyes from drying so badly. He also changed my contact lenses to Acuvue Oasys. Any advice or info would be great.............................
Avatar m tn Steroid drops are not a problem, in fact I often put the patient on steroid drops when they start restasis to reduce stinging/burning. Use the steroids about 2-3 weeks. Good luck. Be patient. Restasis is a wonderful medication. My wife has been on it about 3 years with wonderful results.
Avatar m tn I use Restasis before plugs. Restasis increases quality of tears and reduces inflammation. Plugs best put in by ophthalmologist Eye MD.
Avatar n tn I prescribe Restasis and I use Restasis. I am not familiar with a blue vial holder. I Googled the term and nothing comes up so I don't know anything about it.
Avatar m tn If after a 9 months the person is still symptomatic on restasis twice per day and preservative free artificial tears 2 to 4 times/day than I switch from restasis to Cequa, which is the same medicine as restasis (cyclosporine) but twice as concentrated and is said to penetrate deeper into the cornea. Cequa is more expensive. For restasis I personally use the preservative free drops and use up the entire dropperrte before opening a new one.
Avatar f tn I dont know honestly I use saline mostly but then I wear contacts and have to stick to things that work with them. I just can't believe they'd put alcohol in things you put in your eyes!
Avatar n tn If you use up all the restasis in each dropperette before opening a new one you will reduce your costs by 50-75%
Avatar f tn Should I try plugs 1st and if not successful, then go back to Restasis? 3. In reading about Restasis, are there future bad side effects in continued use such as cancer? I am starting to question if I should get another opinion. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.
Avatar f tn Thank you.
Avatar f tn I'm on restasis, my wife is on restasis, I use restasis in my practice. the medicine does not cause floaters. Floaters can occur at any time. If they start and you are doing something else like mowing the yard, reading a book or starting restasis the relationship is COINCIDENTAL. On the other hand if you are hit in the eye with a fist and note floaters the relationship is CAUSATIVE.
Avatar f tn t you also have to use these drops post-cataract surgery? Did they help you? I would stop using the Restasis if after a month it's not helping.
Avatar f tn re not too bad, but I know that this is not they way they were before. Can I use something with for my eyes that would not interfere with the Restasis. I've tried the artificial drops but I don't see any change. Any thing to clear my eyes a little........... And what are the restrictions for Restasis users, if any?????????????? By the way I am a contact lens wearer, but even with that I took a whole week off my lenses and the redness still didn't clear.
Avatar m tn My Eye Doctor suggested I keep Restasis in the fridge to make more comfortable and reduce the burning and to keep using ir for 2 days. Does Restasis lose its effectiveness when placed in the fridge. Also when are results typically seen? I have a TBUT of 5 and hoping to see an increase if ues consistently.
Avatar m tn My permanent plugs have fallen out and even though I dont feel I am experiencing the same high level of discomfort in my eyes due to month long use of restasis, contacts are almost impossible to have in my eyes. I wear proclear dailies which are thinnest and most comfortable on market. Any other advise?
Avatar f tn I have not seen this in my Restasis patients. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn On my patients I use tear duct plugs only AFTER a 4-6 month trial of ReStasis. ReStasis is a revolutionary eyedrop that has changed the treatment of dry eyes world wide for the better. In the USA it is the second most widely prescribed medication. My wife and many of our friends are on restasis. Also recent studies indicate that 2 or 3 Omega 3 (enteric coated fish oil) greatlyhelp dry eyes. Takes 3-4 months to kick in.
184420 tn?1326739808 I had the same problem and the eye dr gave me restasis and Lotemax. Restasis takes about 3 months of use before it actually works, thats where the Lotemax kicks in-it is a steroid that helps the Restasis get to work faster. No more problems for me.Chronic Dry Eyes will do this to you.I was miserable with mine.
Avatar f tn t cure dry eyes and even when it does help it usually takes many months. Patients with severe dry eye on Restasis still have to use artificial tears several times a day and often have punctum plugs put in as well as oral flax and fish oil supplements. I would make sure there is not co-existing lid margin disease which is common. Make sure you continue to use good artificial tears 4-6 times a day and a lubricant gel or ointment at bedtime.
Avatar n tn Just diagnosed w/ all three. Doc sez to use Restasis and artificial tears w/ no preservatives. Everything I read about Fuchs sez to dry it out, even w/ a hair dryer. Doc sez eye is damaged by current dryness and he cannot do the cataract 'til tears function better in a month or so. Will the Restasis increase the moisture and worsen the Fuchs? What is the failure rate on cataract w/IOL combined w/ dry eye combined w/ Fuchs? He is concerned w/ this combo.
Avatar f tn Dry eyes and blepharitis often coexist together. You need to see an Eye MD to discuss a 4-6 month trial of restasis. Use the searach feature to read about dry eyes.
Avatar f tn m wondering about the side effects of Restasis as I have to use it for 6 months. I know it is an immunosuppressive drug and I really don't know what that means? Does that leave my body open for other diseases because it suppresses my system so the eyes can make the tear film that was partially lost when the nerves were cut during the cataract operations? I don't want to be dependent on drugs for the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn I have dry eyes, so I recently started to use Restasis. But I also have allergy eyes, what can I take that will alleviate the itching, redness withone interfering with the Restasis.
Avatar f tn t seem to matter what/how much I use before bed, I am always getting up in the middle of the night with severly dry eyes and putting more eyedrops in. Sometimes I can barely open and close my eyes they're so dry! This is uncomfortable and I can't imagine it's very healthy for my eyes. any suggestions? I've seen an eye doctor who just said use eyedrops more often, but that doesn't seem very practical at night.
Avatar n tn Still, I will reconsider the Restasis and give it more than 3 months. Perhaps a generic Restasis comes along. 110/mo for years will be quite an investment. I do hope that your wife continues to have relief from this horrible condition, and thank you again. There is a website dryeyezone.com. Perhaps this advise and your blog would be of benefit there. I'll include it in my next post. All the best.
Avatar n tn The restasis should not be put on the contacts but some people use restasis in the morning before putting them in and at bedtime after they're removed.
Avatar m tn Eventually, that stopped and I have some relief from the dry eye. I found that it took a combination of Restasis (four months use), four puncti plugs, and added humidity to my home to achieve reasonable success. Cautery is a permanent procedure as opposed to the plugs, which are removeable.
