Common Questions and Answers about Restasis time to work

restasis

184420 tn?1326739808 Restasis takes about 3 months of use before it actually works, thats where the Lotemax kicks in-it is a steroid that helps the Restasis get to work faster. No more problems for me.Chronic Dry Eyes will do this to you.I was miserable with mine.
Avatar m tn Note it takes 4-6 months for Restasis to kick in and work fully. There are too other drops that are in this family. Xiidra, which I do not use after having poor results and may complaints from my patients about stinging, burning and not being effective.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have posted several questions regarding my dry eyes but think I realize what really is irritating them the most. It's the fluorescent lighting at work. My eyes seem fine in the morning then around 1:00, at the SAME TIME every day, my eyes get real watery & hurt. I don't work on the computer at work but do get on quite a bit a home. That also aggravates my eyes. This all came out of the blue 2 months ago. I have been fine up until then which is puzzling..
Avatar n tn and during that time I cannot wear my contacts right?
Avatar f tn I dont know honestly I use saline mostly but then I wear contacts and have to stick to things that work with them. I just can't believe they'd put alcohol in things you put in your eyes!
Avatar n tn Some contacts work better than others with dry eyes. You might try switching to a different type/brand. Everyone's different, but 1-day Acuvue moist lenses worked well for me.
Avatar f tn ve recently posted that I just recently started Restasis, but my question is will the red eyes start getting better as the Restasis starts to work. Does dry eyes cause them to be red.......... I mean they are not horribly red, but are somewhat irritated. Will my eyes be like this always or will they get better eventually. My eye Dr. said they're not too bad, but I know that this is not they way they were before.
Avatar f tn ) Oral flax and fish oil supplements may help you to produce a better tear film. You might want to consider non-dissolving plugs. Reduce computer work time, avoid smoke, ceiling fans, and medications that worsen dry eyes. This would be a good start for treatment if indeed dry eyes are the real problem here. It is a chronic problem and you can just try to make it better, not cure it.
Avatar f tn Hi. I've been having trouble with dry eyes these last 2 months but have just realized how bad the fluorescent lighting is at work. I grade papers all day long under these lights. I'm not on the computer except to maybe print 1 or 2 things off. My eyes ALWAYS start to bother me around 1:00pm. Shopping at Walmart has always been a problem too. Just the wind from walking down the aisles makes it hard for me. It's very embarrassing.
Avatar f tn I started Restasis about a week ago. I had no issues using it at first. On day two I noticed little black dots that would not go away. I had seen these before but they always went away within a few minutes. Unfortunately they just would NOT go away this time. I'm new to Restasis and I haven't seen floaters listed as a side effect for Restasis. There are a few people who claim it has happened to them but I wanted to ask some doctors to get their opinions.
Avatar m tn In the mean time, I need to find a stronger lubricant for my eye. Is Soothe XP good to try ? It claims that it can stay much longer in the corneal. Is it true ?
Avatar m tn my eyes are so dry that eye drops do not work and my contacts use to dry in my eyes and crying was the only way to get them out and to cry i had to go watch sad stuff.
Avatar f tn Refresh PM gel, Systane Ultra lubricating drops and Restasis. Optimologist prescribed Restasis 6 weeks ago. Still not sure why eyes are red all of the time. Suggested allergy testing, which I have scheduled now. Optomologist says that he still isn't sure what is going on and wants to put plugs in my eyes. My eyes now feel better than they have for quite awhile but still red like no sleep (I get 8 hrs daily) I have 3 questions; 1. can plugs be used with Restasis?
Avatar m tn I plan to use the temporary plug for only 2 to 3 months as I still plan to switch to restasis when it is available in Canada I guess 2 more months. I heard that Restasis will not work when there is a plug. Is it true ?
Avatar f tn Dry eyes and blepharitis often coexist together. You need to see an Eye MD to discuss a 4-6 month trial of restasis. Use the searach feature to read about dry eyes.
Avatar m tn I should clarify... my R eye, which is currently the better, clears to perfect with tears for 3 seconds. My left eye, which is the worse, clears slightly- noticeable, but not to near the same degree, before it too fades. Doc checked flaps and scars and said that everything looks perfect. So it sounds like we're on the right path. Need to go back after the 8 day samples run out and get the Rx, which I am not looking forward to ($$) but anything is worth it!
427279 tn?1210919821 but eyes have changed first time in years ...and he said i had extremely dry eyes....wants me to take restasis but kept saying "you may not think it's working for you but it will be just keep using it...hmmmmmm....so anyway all is good just so tired dont want to move...
Avatar f tn I've had difficulty with intermittent blurred vision for over a year. All neurological tests have been negative. Two months ago, my eye doctor changed my prescription slightly, and also suggested I try Restasis to see if maybe my eyes were just dry. I haven't noticed much of a change. I went today for a recheck. I read the eye chart with my right eye and did OK, but I could barely see the top line with my left eye. I was very shocked, as this has never happened before.
Avatar n tn You can try using a mild steroid drops for the first few weeks of treatment to ease of transition. Restasis does have pretty good science behind it and decent results can be obtained after 6 or 12 months of continuous treatment. Talk to your ophthalmolgist about restarting treatment. Also ask if the plugs are still in and consider getting new ones if needed. Try adding oral omega 3 fish oil and flax seed oil and modify lifestyle to reduce reading and computer work some.
Avatar f tn Dear Ironman850, Dry eyes are a chronic condition. Restasis improves tear production and has been shown to improve progression of dry eyes. If your symptoms are improved off of Restasis, it is alright to stop. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar m tn Rare anyone to be too sensitive to restasis. My wife and I have been on restasis for many years with fabulous results. restasis works with both forms of dry eyes. Many people have stinging with restasis for several weeks which can be helped by using steroid drops for a couple of weeks. there is a new medication that works like restasis called Xidra it is supposed to kick in faster (3-4 months) than restasis (4-6 months) but has not been shown to be better than restasis and is more costly.
Avatar n tn My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
Avatar m tn In early Oct. 08 it felt like something was in my eye. I flushed it, used drops that may have been expired for some time as we just moved & did not through out all meds. I then flushed it under the tub faucet and it burned for 15-20 secs. I did not feel anything after that, but it has never looked the same. The left eye is redder most of the time and burns & itches from time to time. I'm on Restasis and 50mg of Doxy. I'm 42 yr old male.
Avatar f tn i had cataract sursery 9 months ago, have been noticing poorer vision, was diagnosed with 'dry eyes'. Have been using Restasis for two weeks now, eyes seem irritated, are red, I need to blink a lot. Is this normal? Will this go away if I have to use this product for the rest of my life? How is this helping me?
Avatar n tn Dry eye first time ever. Cannot sleep through the night. Also bad while on computer. Gritty, burning, painful. Dr used the plug. Have tried systane, refresh, with ointment at night and restasis. Warm cloths. Can you help?
Avatar n tn They didnt really seem to have much of an effect on dryness for me, but im going back today to get them put back in just to make sure. I was also prescribed Restasis. Do these treatments seem reasonable for my dryness and redness problem? Does my doctors estimation of the redness because caused solely by dryness sound correct even though I told him I used vasoconstrictors for a few years on a regular basis?
