Restasis and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Restasis and side effects

restasis

Avatar f tn m wondering about the side effects of Restasis as I have to use it for 6 months. I know it is an immunosuppressive drug and I really don't know what that means? Does that leave my body open for other diseases because it suppresses my system so the eyes can make the tear film that was partially lost when the nerves were cut during the cataract operations? I don't want to be dependent on drugs for the rest of my life.
429949 tn?1224691579 I have Meibomaian Gland dysfunction and Blepharitis, both of which I never had until this all started, and guess what, they are on the rare side effects list for Paroxetine too! Just coinsidence? Who knows? Has the Restasis helped with the dry eye? What differences have you noticed so far? I read that it may take up to six months to see the most results. Thank you for responding to this question. It took a lot of the worry about the blured vision off my mind!
Avatar f tn Should I try plugs 1st and if not successful, then go back to Restasis? 3. In reading about Restasis, are there future bad side effects in continued use such as cancer? I am starting to question if I should get another opinion. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.
Avatar n tn I have noticed the burning sensation you have discussed. What is the success rate for Restasis for people who have tried it and stuck to the Restasis program.
429949 tn?1224691579 t start it until today. I wanted to do some checking into the possible side effects first! The one side effect that concerned me was blured vision. I have had enough blured vision to last me a life time. I had it straight for almost a year, and now it is almost gone, don't want no more. But after talking to one of the other members here who has been on it for two months, I was assured that it was only temporary, So I decided to try it!

Avatar m tn but the problem for me is it seems i have either a hypersensitivity in taking either one and develop side effects after a while where i seem to get headaches and an uncomfortable feeling in my throat... It's really a shame because the benefit are wonderful but the side effects are very annoying, to say the least...
Avatar f tn I would suggest a trial of cyclosporin (Restasis) as it is much safer long term because of the steroid side effects of cataracts, glaucoma and cornea infection. Not in some cases it has lasted 30-40 years and is more commin in females. So you are probably asking for trouble continuing to wear contacts. You should place yourself under the care of an ophthalmologist Eye MD that specializes in cornea and external disease.
917763 tn?1311628896 Absolutely the dry eye and dry sinus side effects are NO FUN. I used OTC eye drops during the day and Refresh PM ointment at bedtime. Sometimes I'd even have to get up in the middle of the night to put in more Refresh PM ointment to get me through to the morning. As far as my sinuses I used the saline nasal spray daily and it seemed to help a lot. Just plain saline, nothing medicated.
Avatar f tn Look into all possible remedies including dietary supplements like flax and fish oil and punctul plugs, restasis, and also look very closely for lid margin disease. Secondly, I'm ver surprised that botox didn't help and it makes me wonder how much experience that doc has with botox for that problem. Suggest you see oculoplastic surgeon who has experience in botox for blepharospasm. In the end it may be a combination of all 3 problems.
Avatar n tn Restasis is the treatment of choice for dry eyes and it takes 3 months to start working and it gets better and better for up to 6 months. Some eyes are hard to fit with plugs. One final word. If this was not a MD eye physician ophthalmologist you saw and it was an optometrist then I would not believe a word and would go to see an Eye MD. Find one at www.aao.
Avatar f tn Hi- I've been using Restasis (a prescription medication that causes your eyes to create more tears) since Lasik surgery 4 years ago. I'm currently on treatment, and both my doctors are aware I am using it. I really don't think it effects treatment in any way and I wouldn't be concerned.
Avatar f tn No restasis does not cause floaters. I have been on restasis for about 3 years and my wife 7 and I have hundreds of patients on restasis. Now floaters are common and can occur anytime. Thus people decide that their floaters are due to whatever they have been doing. Example attributing them to flying, reading, watching tv or having their pupils dilated. Remember it take 4-6 months for restasis to become fully effective.
Avatar f tn I had been taking Restasis(Cyclosporin eye drops BID) and had many of the symptoms of side effects of that drug including low neutraphils, redness and swelling of eyelids, itching, feeling of foreign object in my eye, pain on administration of drops. I believe this is a drug reaction not Herpes Keratitis. What do you think?
Avatar m tn restasis rx for dry eye 1/11 thurs 1/30 i started alot of post nasal symptoms by sat i had laryngitis severe by sunday went to er, they said stop restasis. viral syndrom dx. is laryngitis a side effect? i am very sensitive to all rx drugs and antibiotics , i have intolerences so did these eye drops cause this , also on synthyroid for goitors need help, i stopped the drops but i have this post tickle coughing jags no fever no rash ..
Avatar f tn Can sinus issues only cause eye pain with no other symptoms? I have had chronic eye pain in both eyes for over 2 months now. I have been to my primary care doc, Opthamology, Neuro-Opthamology and Neurology with no answers. The pain in sometimes sharp, stabbing, achy, deep, stingy. It varies. I do have chronic dry eyes and recently started Restasis. The opthamologist said my dry eyes is not what is causing this type of pain.
415867 tn?1323365503 Just curious---why is she giving you Restasis? I had Lasik and did not take anything...but there are pain meds and sleeping meds you have to take afterwards. I was not ttc then. I will say doing Lasik was probably the best money I have ever spent!!!!
Avatar m tn I have been using the restasis for about 3 months and have not really noticed a difference. My right eye is worse that the left. The doctor plugged the lower lid, however I cannot tell much of a difference. The irritation is coming from the upper lid. I look in my right eye and can see tears along the lower portion. If I plug the upper lid and unplug the lower would that help? Also based on the Schirmers score would this be considered mild/moderate or servere dry eye?
Avatar n tn Just diagnosed w/ all three. Doc sez to use Restasis and artificial tears w/ no preservatives. Everything I read about Fuchs sez to dry it out, even w/ a hair dryer. Doc sez eye is damaged by current dryness and he cannot do the cataract 'til tears function better in a month or so. Will the Restasis increase the moisture and worsen the Fuchs? What is the failure rate on cataract w/IOL combined w/ dry eye combined w/ Fuchs? He is concerned w/ this combo.
Avatar f tn Both my wife and I are on restasis (same med as you) for over 8 years with excellent results. Restasis is used twice per day but does not have to be used at bedtime. So put drops in morning and with your evening meal. Because of the cumlative effect of restasis the time between dosages is not critical as it is for antibiotics and heart medication. Remember it takes 6 months for your medication to fully kick in. During the day use preservative free artificial tears.
Avatar n tn I feel that the surgeon I went to did not do an acceptable job of telling about these side effects. Having to live the rest of my life with these halos is not a comforting thought. The ReSTOR implant gives a pinpoint glare at night, which I think is bearable. My beef is with the ReZoom lens, which gives me a fuzzy, thick halo, day and night, around any point of light, being a bulb, light fixture, reflection, or computer screen.
Avatar f tn My wife and I are both on Restasis with fabulous success and I use it extensively in my practice and have recommended it many times her at the Eye Forum. I think your experience is atypical as Restasis is the most widely prescribed prescription eye drop in the USA. A tear duct plug would not cause blurred vision nor ringing in your ear (tinnitus). If the ringing is new you need to see an ENT physician for an audiogram and evaluation of the ringing.
122065 tn?1241385329 I have been prescribed Restasis for my dry eyes and wanted to get an independent opinion regarding it's safety. I am concerned that there could be problems down the line after the drug has been around 20+ years that is unknown at this time. Do you feel it is safe without any long-term harm to the eyes, knowing that it is an antiinflammatory for the eyes, from what I understand. Thank you for your input!
