Restasis and red eyes

Common Questions and Answers about Restasis and red eyes

restasis

Avatar f tn ve recently posted that I just recently started Restasis, but my question is will the red eyes start getting better as the Restasis starts to work. Does dry eyes cause them to be red.......... I mean they are not horribly red, but are somewhat irritated. Will my eyes be like this always or will they get better eventually. My eye Dr. said they're not too bad, but I know that this is not they way they were before.
Avatar f tn I can imagine the profound effect you feel that the redness and dry eyes have had on your life, and I am sorry. I hope you will keep exploring other avenues for solving the problem before you consider a surgery that could leave you with serious vision problems, however small the risk. Please do some research about 'Murine/Visine rebound' and how to deal with it, in case that is exacerbating your problem.
Avatar f tn (You may have to be placed on eye drops for the duration of treatment. Several of us are on eye drops and will stay on them until treatment ends. I am on Restasis and Systane. Restasis is prescription.
Avatar n tn I used to be an addict user of vasoconstrictors for about 3 years, but have been off them for almost 2.5 months now and my eyes are still red. I went to an eye doctor a few days ago and he gave me a tear time break up test. My results were only 2 seconds when normal break up time is around 7 seconds. Does the fact that my eyes are indeed dry have any effect on the persistent redness that I still have? My doctor gave me temporary lower punctal plugs, but they fell out after a few hours.
Avatar f tn Refresh PM gel, Systane Ultra lubricating drops and Restasis. Optimologist prescribed Restasis 6 weeks ago. Still not sure why eyes are red all of the time. Suggested allergy testing, which I have scheduled now. Optomologist says that he still isn't sure what is going on and wants to put plugs in my eyes. My eyes now feel better than they have for quite awhile but still red like no sleep (I get 8 hrs daily) I have 3 questions; 1. can plugs be used with Restasis?
Avatar f tn He started me on tobradex ST ( steroid drops) and Timolol Maleate. Then I used thera tears and systane during the day and the night time gel. As of last Friday I was doing fine, then my vision became blurry again and my left eye is like half open. ( looks like a lazy eye) never had it before. He says my inplants look great. yesterday i saw him my right eye had raised pressure to 26.5 he took me off the steroid drops left me on the timolol -glaucoma drops.
Avatar n tn s there so long. About 2 mo. ago, my eyes started getting red on the whites and my mom said that my lower eye lid (where women put eyeliner--i don't use eye makeup) also looked red--didn't hurt or itch just red. In the a.m., my eyes would be a little red but clear up once I put the restasis in. As the day went on, they'd get more red. Usu. when I put an artif. tear in it would clear up a bit. Since my eyes didn't hurt or itch, I didn't notice the red til I was told.
4310107 tn?1352840858 My symptoms were burning eyes, chronic red eyes looking like I was stoned, and headaches. All of that gets better when I use the restasis. One thing my opthamologist said was NEVER use the OTC drops like Visine - in her opinion they should be outlawed. She said they can do permanent damage/dependency to your eyes .. There are good lubricatng drops we can buy here and I assume the same up there in Canada. You might try that and see if it makes your burning better.
Avatar n tn I have tried many different things and even now I am on an allergy drop where I put it under my tongue three times a day and it is supposed to cure my allergies for good. But no matter what I do my eyes are always red and I have tried just about everything I can think of it. They get the worst when I drink alchahol or not get enough sleep and so on. I have been using thera tears because I thought maybe I just have bad dry eye but those don't seem to do anything for me.
Avatar f tn I have dry eyes, so I recently started to use Restasis. But I also have allergy eyes, what can I take that will alleviate the itching, redness withone interfering with the Restasis.
Avatar f tn This worked well and I had no trouble with my eyes during treatment (before starting on Restasis it felt like I had sand in my eyes all of the time.
Avatar m tn The steroid drops both helped for about 3 days, my eyes looked great, and then after about 3 days got red again. The drop I am using now is acular, it helps my eyes from being completely red like they were but they are still red. I have not worn my contacts for about 9 months. Some other background, about 2 years ago I went for a regular exam and contacts. A few hours after putting in my new contacts, Softmeds, my right eye started to bother me.
Avatar f tn I have used Restasis and have tried allergy drops. My eyes are always red and feel as if I have something in them (which is the bumps under my eyelids). Does anyone know what I can do about this. I've been to so many eye Dr's. and I cannot get them cleared up. I used to wear contact lenses and now I can no longer wear them. It has been almost 5 years since I was able to wear my contacts. Some Dr's. want to give me steriod drops, but I do not want to put them in my eyes.
Avatar f tn I had Pterygium surgery on both eyes. the dr did a severe removal. very painful and very red. its been 6 mo and i am just barely getting better. after may consultaions and dr visits and countles drops. i use silimasan dry eye relief drops. since they are homeopathic i use them as needed. i also use refresh 3 times a day. once in the am ,once during in the evening and once at night.THE SECRET IS THAT YOU HAVE TO STICK TO THEM .
Avatar m tn Last week, noted vision much more diminished bilaterally. Eyes very red and slightly swollen. Now vision is foggy at times, like it was after LASIK, but not as foggy as it initially was after this procedure. I have hx of migraines. The past year they have been really under control. Now they are coming back...related to eyes? Have developed a left hand tremor when I pick up a cup or glass. Are these related symptoms or separate issues? What does this sound like?
Avatar f tn i had cataract sursery 9 months ago, have been noticing poorer vision, was diagnosed with 'dry eyes'. Have been using Restasis for two weeks now, eyes seem irritated, are red, I need to blink a lot. Is this normal? Will this go away if I have to use this product for the rest of my life? How is this helping me?
Avatar n tn Look into allergy drops like Pataday, frequent use of preservative free artificial tears, and possibly punctal plugs and restasis drops long term. Part of your problem may also be from using Opcon (a vasoconstrictor) for too long. You can get a lot of rebound redness when you stop it. I've taken posts from people who said it tooks months and months to be able to get off the stuff without lots of redness problems. Consider getting a second opinion.
Avatar n tn The the equation becomes DRY EYES = CHRONIC RED EYES. This equation almost always works in middle age and older women, younger women on hormone therapy, people on diuretics, antihistimines, allergies (which are made worse by dry eyes). Suggest you see countless + 1 ophthalmologists this time a corneal/external disease specialist and use a trial of 4 months off contacts and 4 months on ReStasis with use of a steroid drop for the first 10-14 days of therapy.
Avatar f tn Yes that is a common symptom. Use the search feature and archives and read the many helpful posts about dry eyes. Go to Dr. Hagan's home page and read the Journal Posting on treatment of dry eyes. As I have said many time both my wife and I have dry eyes and have been on Restasis for several years with excellent results. WIth MGD it's important to keep the eye lids free of oil and debris (*called scruff). Try Ocusoft Plus PLATINUM it's over the counter.
Avatar f tn 05%, I was wondering if it is okay to put the eye drops in my eye, and then after like 10 minutes or more use a warm eye compress, I am very stressed due to my bloodshot eyes from dry eye, and I find that the warm compress helps me to fall asleep but do not want to "wash" away or eliminate the effects of the eye drops with the moisture from the warm compress. any thoughts will be appreciated !
Avatar m tn My Eye Doctor suggested I keep Restasis in the fridge to make more comfortable and reduce the burning and to keep using ir for 2 days. Does Restasis lose its effectiveness when placed in the fridge. Also when are results typically seen? I have a TBUT of 5 and hoping to see an increase if ues consistently.
122065 tn?1241385329 I have been prescribed Restasis for my dry eyes and wanted to get an independent opinion regarding it's safety. I am concerned that there could be problems down the line after the drug has been around 20+ years that is unknown at this time. Do you feel it is safe without any long-term harm to the eyes, knowing that it is an antiinflammatory for the eyes, from what I understand. Thank you for your input!
Avatar f tn Dear Ironman850, Dry eyes are a chronic condition. Restasis improves tear production and has been shown to improve progression of dry eyes. If your symptoms are improved off of Restasis, it is alright to stop. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar f tn I know how you fell. I had itchy dry eyes for months on triple. I started out using Systane Balance which was very soothing. Towards the end of treatment I had to go to the prescription Restasis. I'm finished with treatment and happy to say my eyes are back to normal. Good luck!
Avatar f tn The symtoms of my condition started with gradual red veins in the eyes (my eye whites were so clear before they were almost blue!) but now i have lots of small red veins which has started to make my eye whites look dull and almost yellow. When i first had the problems i have severe sensitvitiy to bright office lights and computer, but this has now gone, as i have changed my work place so the air con is not bad, but i always feel my eye dry, senstive to weather / wind and strained.
