Restasis and eye plugs

Common Questions and Answers about Restasis and eye plugs

restasis

Avatar f tn can plugs be used with Restasis? (Restasis info says no but Dr. says yes) 2. Should I try plugs 1st and if not successful, then go back to Restasis? 3. In reading about Restasis, are there future bad side effects in continued use such as cancer? I am starting to question if I should get another opinion. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.
Avatar m tn org/user_journals/show/2324863/Dry-Eyes-Update-2020?personal_page_id=67912 Eye plugs that are permanent and cannot be removed are terrible and have been associaated with very serious tear sac infections. The type that can be removed rarely stay in long the tend to fall out. Both my wife and I have bad dry eyes. We have been on Restasis with spectacular results for over 8 years.
Avatar m tn I have severe dry eye and in pain and too sensitive to restasis can eye plugs help?
Avatar m tn I have been using the restasis for about 3 months and have not really noticed a difference. My right eye is worse that the left. The doctor plugged the lower lid, however I cannot tell much of a difference. The irritation is coming from the upper lid. I look in my right eye and can see tears along the lower portion. If I plug the upper lid and unplug the lower would that help? Also based on the Schirmers score would this be considered mild/moderate or servere dry eye?
Avatar m tn I use Restasis before plugs. Restasis increases quality of tears and reduces inflammation. Plugs best put in by ophthalmologist Eye MD.
Avatar m tn Eventually, that stopped and I have some relief from the dry eye. I found that it took a combination of Restasis (four months use), four puncti plugs, and added humidity to my home to achieve reasonable success. Cautery is a permanent procedure as opposed to the plugs, which are removeable.
Avatar n tn Its simple to put these in and give them a try. They would be less likely to help a watery eye than a "bone dry" eye. You should be on Restasis and that would be more likely to help than anything. Also consider fish oil enteric coated high quality manufactuer (example Cardiotabs ) 3/day or one of the oral over the counter pills specific for dry eyes. TheraTears Dry eye oral formulation.
Avatar m tn What suggestions would anyone have for a dialysis patient with severe dry eye? Restasis, moisturizing eye drops and tear duct plugs have been tried with no relief. This discussion is related to dry eyes.
Avatar m tn ve got a weak and dry eye when I was 17 or 18. My right eye is often weak and dry, and a little bit pain, very obviously when it compares to my left eye. I feel so good with my left eye no matter how long I've worked with computer, but my right eye, I often feel it dry and a bit painful. When I was 22 I was required to take a generalk eye check and test in university .
Avatar f tn My wife and I are both on Restasis with fabulous success and I use it extensively in my practice and have recommended it many times her at the Eye Forum. I think your experience is atypical as Restasis is the most widely prescribed prescription eye drop in the USA. A tear duct plug would not cause blurred vision nor ringing in your ear (tinnitus). If the ringing is new you need to see an ENT physician for an audiogram and evaluation of the ringing.
Avatar f tn I had one plug taken out and my eye immediately worsened with dry eye so I had it reinserted. I am taking all measures to aggressively treat dry eyes and don't feel that that is the issue. I just don't know how to find out a proper diagnosis and treatment. I want to make sure my eyes are healthy and it's difficult to deal with constant pain and discomfort.
Avatar m tn For the permanent, easy to remove plug, is it the same as smart plugs? There are several types of permanent plugs. Which one do you usually use? Thank you.
Avatar f tn So i went to see an Opthamologist and he said i have dry eyes. Since then i have been using various lubricant eye drops, Restasis, and sometimes antibiotic as he suspected eye infection. But till now it only gets slightly better, i still have to use the artificial eye drops at least 6 times a day, plus Restasis. Will that mean i have to stick with the eye drops forever? Are my dark circles related to dry eye? I have performed blood tests and result shows that i don't have any allergies.
Avatar f tn Hi. Last week I started Restasis for dry eyes. I tried temporary collagen plugs but they did not help.. My dry eyes just seemed to come out of the blue last month. (I've had minor dry eye problems for many years). Now, it's all I think about. My main problem is a windy feeling to my eyes, even in my own home. I am actually dealing with that right now. My eyes actually feel better when they have a dry feeling, if that makes sense.
Avatar n tn Restasis drops can definitely burn and sting some. You can try using a mild steroid drops for the first few weeks of treatment to ease of transition. Restasis does have pretty good science behind it and decent results can be obtained after 6 or 12 months of continuous treatment. Talk to your ophthalmolgist about restarting treatment. Also ask if the plugs are still in and consider getting new ones if needed.
Avatar n tn I had cataracts removed and restor lenses implanted over a year ago. I have suffered from blurry vision ever since. When I sit in the ophthalmologist's chair, I check out 20.25 in each eye. I've had plugs inserted and removed to increase tear production. I religiously use Restatsis night and morning. I use eye drops throughout the day. I have made countless visits to the Dr. and he keeps telling me to be patient and try different drops, etc.
Avatar f tn On my patients I use tear duct plugs only AFTER a 4-6 month trial of ReStasis. ReStasis is a revolutionary eyedrop that has changed the treatment of dry eyes world wide for the better. In the USA it is the second most widely prescribed medication. My wife and many of our friends are on restasis. Also recent studies indicate that 2 or 3 Omega 3 (enteric coated fish oil) greatlyhelp dry eyes. Takes 3-4 months to kick in.
Avatar n tn - Persistent pain and feeling of burning sensations. Difficult for her to sleep as a result. - Light sensitivity. - Multiple cases of severe red eye. Most recent issue lasted for two weeks in her left eye and was painful throughout. - Constant feeling of strain. She is using several inflammatory medications/eyedrops but none are helping that much. I also bought her a humidifier to use during the nighttime, but that doesn't seem to be helping much either.
Avatar m tn Well regardless of the cause if the eye is dry and tears only help for a short time and you're going broke buying eye drops then plugs or restasis should be considered. Restasis helps both types of dry eyes (now called tears dysfunction syndrome) 1. where the eye is dry as a bone and 2 where the eye waters all the time.
Avatar f tn Taking fish oil capsules and getting punctal plugs as suggested by Dr. Ray above helped me. I have both dry eyes and bleph. It seems to me that my dry eyes have also been helped by my bleph treatment. In addition to using Soothe eyedrops, which are preservative free, I wash my eyelids once or twice a day using the suds from an anti bacterial dial soap bar. This is a tip which I got previously got on medhelp. While it may seem as if it is difficult to do, it is not.
Avatar m tn I have dry eye and had permanent punctual plugs inserted into one of my lower tear ducts. About four days later Ive been having pressure around both eyes. I dont have redness or irritation .. just slight headaches with the pressure. Should I wait it out or have them removed?
Avatar f tn I have had Sjogen's Syndrome for two years. I tried Restasis, Punctal Plugs, Lacrisert, and every kind of eye solution made. Nothing has helped this annoying problem of constant dry eyes. Has anyone heard of the surgical procedure that closes the tear ducts? I plan to ask my doctor about this on my next visit.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have developed extremely dry eyes after my cataract surgery. First surgery was April 2nd and second one was April 16th. Went back to work April 22nd - my job requires me to be on the computer 8 hours every day and my eyes are in absolute agony. I am putting Refresh Tears in every hour on the hour and that is not helping. Is this normal??? And if yes, how long does it last?
Avatar f tn Putting tear duct plugs in the lower lid is quick, easy, safe and usually painless. The plugs may stay in the eye up to several years although there is a rarther high rate of them coming out usually from rubbing the eye or using a washcloth on the inside corner of the lids. I think it important not to use a "smartplug" or other tear duct plug that is pushed deeply into the tear duct and cannot be removed easily.
Avatar n tn I went last week to another eye doctor and this one put a paper on my left eye and she mention that I have very little tears and she thinks that all this is dry eye. Can dry eye give you pain in your eyebrows, burning sensation and 24/7 bloody eye? If someone have any susgestion or any idea please let me know I am to teh point that my life is misserable since I am in this pain all teh time... I put artificial tears but that doesn't help neither...
1318483 tn?1318347182 I will post more about tomorrow. But I did want to get some opinions on plugs for dry eye. I had an eye appointment today to see about getting prism glasses for my double vision. While I did get the appointment for the prisms, I left with an appointment for this Thursday to get plugs. Has anyone had this done? Did they work? Any opinions on getting this done? Also, my eye doctor did explain the procedure to me and told me it doesn't hurt. Is this true? Lol. I am such a baby.
