Requip side effects for rls

Common Questions and Answers about Requip side effects for rls

requip

Avatar f tn He determined this to be rare side effects from Requip. Took me off straightaway. I hated that because it worked so well, but side effects were intolerable. This as of April 28th. Was started on Sinemet. Was told this does not work as well as Requip, but was less likely to have same side effects. Said he could add darvocet if necesary. Also take ativan 1mg 3 x daily since the brain surgery, and 1-2 at night for help with sleep. Every other sleep aid made above symptoms worse.
487070 tn?1313665952 I hate the side effects but it seems to be working for the most part. I understand it is mainly used for Parkinson's diasease and sometimes RLS. Does anyone take this for their RLS? If so how much? Supossedly it helps increase Dopmine levels which PLMD and Parkinson disorders have in common.I'm not sure if RLS is caused by low Dopamine or not. I feel like YUCK. I have had a dry, horse throat all winter & I think it may be a side effect.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have been diagnosed with RLS and requip worked for you well until it was determined to be causing side effects, and you were switched to Sinemet. One known side effect of Requip is swelling in the legs; it sounds like you had an extensive evaluation for all the symptoms you began experiencing after January 2008. Sinemet works well for RLS symptoms, but has a higher risk of eventually causing what is called augmentation, or the occurrence of symptoms earlier in the day.
Avatar f tn It is a parkinsons med, but at the amount that is taken for RLS I have had no side effects at all. They take 36 a day for parkinson's and I have to take anywhere from 3-8 a day depending on how severe.
Avatar n tn I take Requip for it. Works great. One before I go to bed.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Requip for RLS, which I had so bad with my Tramadol withdrawal, I would rock and bounce for hours during both the day and night. I had RLS for at least 6 hours or more a day for almost a month. I took the Requip for the first 40 days, now I take it 2x a week. My doc said after I hit 2 months or more off the opiates, we can talk about me jumping off the Requip all together.
Avatar f tn I HAVE RLS FOR MANY YEARS AND I AM ON 3MG REQUIP AND 1 MG KLONPIN, THAT HAS BEEN HELPING UP TO NOW. I DISCOVERED THAT MY THYROID IS VERY LOW. COULD THAT BE WHY MY RLS IS GETTING WORSE. I REALLY NEED SOME SLEEP!!! WHAT OTHER MEDS ARE HELPFUL. I REALLY HAVE ALOT OF PAIN IN MY LEGS ALSO. THANKS FOR AMY HELP.
Avatar f tn It's possible that you have a real medical issue with RLS and if that's the case Requip works great and it's not addictive! On the other hand if it does have something to do with w/d's then I would suggest eating bananas as they really do help. If the bananas don't work after a few days then I would go to your doctor and tell him what's going on with your legs and he will probably give you the Requip. I'm currently taking it and with no side effects at all.
Avatar n tn I started taking Requip last year for RLS. I just happen to mention to my doctor that I had leg pain during the night. She had given me a trial pack but left it at home when I went to my daughters for the weekend. I had only been taking it a few days and when I didn't have it to take I thought i was dying. It is like I am addited to this drug. I can't come off of it. I have started having shooting pains in my legs and find that I am having to take it more often.
Avatar f tn Surely the doctor who told you to go off the med cold turkey was not a neurologist. Going off these meds abruptly can cause neurological problems. I did it two years ago and still have issues from it. I too have been on both of these meds and have had similar issues. Have you been on Sinemet yet? Requip and Mirapex are dopamine agonists, but Sinemet is a dopamine replacement and is best reserved for when the agonists no longer work.
620048 tn?1358018235 Not sure if it was Requip, but I was amused -- kind of -- to hear compulsive gambling listed as one of the possible side effects of some medicine being advertised on the TV recently. I'm pretty sure it was something used to treat RLS. I told Nancy about it, and she wasn't sure I wasn't pulling her leg.
Avatar f tn Since I already have RLS, will I have to look forward to an increase in the severity of my RLS??? I am very worried. I take Requip (ropinirole) for RLS but it is not a total relief of it. RLS is hell as you dread going to bed, you dread movies, you dread airplanes as you know that your legs will instantly start to ache and you will have the compulsion to constantly move them to relieve the discomfort.
Avatar n tn But on Wellbutrin or Remeron, RLS returned and was intolerable at 300mg Wellbutrin mornings + 30mg Remeron nightly, so I got on Requip. This is a very effective RLS solution taken at bedtime, but the next day RLS returns with a vengenance. At 1mg/night, Requip produced anxiety so we reduced to 0.5mg. Afterr four weeks severe anxiety returned becoming worse each day for five days.
Avatar f tn He also takes plenty of Norco and Percs..The Requip works very well for him..he suffers from RLS pretty bad ..He has no side effects from it and takes it at bedtime..@10 pm..and he gets up for work @5am..he doesn't feel groggy or anything...you should give it a try..especially when you are in w/d.. If your taking anything else..a pharmacist can let you know if there is any contradictions between meds.. I know that RLS can drive a person nuts..I was fortunate this time around..
Avatar f tn It was 22 days for me for the physical W/Ds to ease up.Everybodies different tho..I got up one morning and was like WOW!!FINALLY!!Hang in there, you're almost home free!!!
Avatar n tn I also suffer for RLS since childhood, I take amitryptiline for it, I can take it as needed, lately it has been bad, graves disease is my woe. but numbers are getting better, and not sleeping mostly due to RLS, it is severe these days, i wasn't sleeping before cause of insomnia, so now not sure if i didn't have RLS would i be sleeping? glad your numbers are good, can't wait for that news!! maybe i will ask about your combo, the amitryptiline makes me very groggy in a.m.
Avatar f tn This forum is great! It seems to me that a loy of good common sense and experience . Corey, how did your son get over the rls form wd if he still has RLS? I've heard of Requip before but what is the new drug out for RLS?I think my problem is wd but coming days will tell. I liked Jacqui's response. What does PM mean? I'm not up to the lingo! I feel a bit less "antsy" than an hour ago!
Dog But as you know what might work great for one patient might not work great for another. But maybe worth a try.
372416 tn?1242665752 you've described rls perfectly...its very common for addicts to have this during their wds. it's also a medical mystery for other people who have never used or been addicted...they use requip to treat it, but its non-narcotic. rls is just torture when you only wanna sleep...i'm still waiting for mine to end. maybe tonight?
Avatar n tn My RLS is in high gear about 4 days before and 4 days after the full moon. I had been on Requip for about 2 years and although it was helpful, those 8 days the medication did not seem to help. My health care company decided that Requip is no longer a formulary drug,so I have switched to benztropine. Unfortunately, I had to switch during the last full moon and really did not get but a couple hours of sleep for 3 days.
Avatar f tn There is so many problems regarding my mom but I will try to just touch on what is happening. She is suffering terribly with RLS. My mom has been treated for close to 30 years with numerous antidepressants. She has severe OCD, bipolar, and anxiety disorder. She is currently on 200 mg of Zoloft...in addition to Depekote, and Klonopin. Her RLS was being treated with a very high dose of Requip but has recently been switched to something else; some sort of patch. Nothing is working.
Avatar n tn Thank you Worried for the detailed information. I had no idea those extra receptor sites never went away!! I guess that's why the experts say that once you are an addict, you always will be. =( I understand the dangers of an addict messing around with dopamine. I just have such a tough time with the RLS. If it was only for four or five days, I could hang in there, but mine tends to last more like 14 or 15 days.
Avatar m tn Maybe try HYLANDS for the RLS and melatonin for sleep?
Avatar n tn In my opinion, this is probably one of the worst side effects of SSRIs. After a taper off of these medications with the doctor's approval, you will see a marked improvement as the dosage goes down, in my experience. Sorry to be so ambiguous, but these medications effect people in different ways, but it does get much better:)....keep us posted!
Avatar f tn ll keep you posted. I heard Requip has a LOT of side effects, such as...dizziness, faintness, nausea, vomiting, unusual fatigue or drowsiness, indigestion, sweating, increased susceptibility to viral infection, headache. So I probably won't be experimenting with that one although it's supposed to be the first-line of treatment for RLS.
