Requip or mirapex

Common Questions and Answers about Requip or mirapex

requip

Dog Besides Mirapex, the other medications that are approved to treat Restless Legs Syndrome are Neurontin, Requip and Neupro. I recommend speaking to your doctor about these medications to see if one may be appropriate for you.
Avatar n tn schizophrenia is caused by tooo much dopamine production drugs that replace dopamine can help/requip being one of those....also lots of supps out there that replace dopamine/or encourage production of dopamine...exercise is one of the main endorphin producers we can do without taking any supps...
Avatar f tn My current sleep doctor feels that Sinemet, a dopamine replacement, should be reserved for use after dopamine agonists such as Requip and Mirapex are no longer useful. I can give you a few hints on optimizing the effectiveness of your Sinemet rather than keep raising dose: No protein to eat unless long enough before dose for the food to have already passed thru the small intestine. Small amout of starchy food food can help when taking med, but no large amounts of food before taking the med.
487070 tn?1313665952 When experiencing augmentation, the movements intruded into when I was semi-awake, or at least aware of the movements. That stopped when I stopped the med. Mirapex and Requip are very similar meds, both called dopamine agonists, and they work by kinda tricking the brain into as if it has the right amount of dopamine. (OK, I know that description is very nonscientific - sorry.
398059 tn?1447945633 I am with you. Sleep doesn't come easily and I don't stay asleep when I do drift off. Sometimes it's the pain in my legs from the spasms and most of the time, it's pain in my lower back, which may be my lower disk problem or a bad mattress or both. I don't want to spend my life taking sleep aids, so I just muddle through.
Avatar f tn It is one of my most obnoxious symptoms, and I have taken requip or the generic, roprinole, for several years. Maybe you could add this too, please. For many years all I could do was rub my thighs--ad nauseum! Thanks for doing a wonderful job!
Avatar f tn I too have been on both of these meds and have had similar issues. Have you been on Sinemet yet? Requip and Mirapex are dopamine agonists, but Sinemet is a dopamine replacement and is best reserved for when the agonists no longer work. SinemetCR worked for me for a few years before the side effects outweighed the decreasing benefits. It's more complicated to optimize it's effectiveness, as one is best served to consider the timing, volume and content of their meals.

My Mother has been on it for two years , after suffering for decades, its the wonder drug.. There are a couple of members who have both MS and RLS ..
136956 tn?1688675680 For the last year or so I have developed restless body. It moved from just my legs to all over. I was diagnosed with so many things but no definitive reasoning as to why my body is shutting down. Is there anything to treat this? I am on wellbutrin right now and seems to help it a bit but I am going to be put on cymbalta soon and I am worried its going to get much worse.

Avatar f tn and suddenly started having problems? If my sleep study confirms the RLS, and I start mirapex or something similiar... please.... someone tell me it cured them. I love my job, my husband, and my kids.... I'm so afraid the fatigue is going to interfere with the poeple and things I love.
667261 tn?1225473853 Hi, I also have RLS I was diagnosed about 4 years ago with it, at that time they did not have requip or mirapex, so they put me on Klonopin 2mg to start. I am now up to 3, 2mg pills per night. The Klonopin works great for my RLS, even if I take it during the day it does not make me drowsy. However it is very addicting, but at the time it was either take the RX for that or never sleep. I would research it on the net and talk to your doc about it.
Avatar n tn Hi Laura, Mirapex is the name of the drug, combined with Ambien CR. While one of my friends made a negative comment about this, I say only this, we are not doctors so I am going with their advice. I got back up from my normal Endo and he told me my weight is dropping now that the thyroid is medicated properly but sleep could have been effecting my weight as well. I was not eating more, but he said when you don't sleep your hormones get mixed up causing weight around the middle.
Avatar m tn I would see a movement disorders specialist to see if you have tardive dyskinesia (or one of its other variants such as tardive dystonia). There can be withdrawal dyskinesia after stopping Ability but after two months if it has not gone away tardive dyskinesia should be ruled out. Tardive dyskinesia is generally treated with Mirapex, Bachlophen, Requip, Aricept and Botox injections for focal dystonia.
1289458 tn?1271972463 Recent studies have shown that vitamin e is of limited help. Known treatments include Bachlofen, Requip, Aricept and Mirapex. Botox injections are often used for specific focal dystonic spasms. More experimental treatments include tetrobenzine and Zofran. The Catapres application that I use can be helpful depending on the extent and variation of the type of spasms. The natural remedy rhodiola when supervised by a neurologist can be of help.
405614 tn?1329144114 Restless Legs have an uncomfortable feeling in the legs, sometimes described like water running under the skin, that makes you want to get up and move around. At night, it can keep you from sleeping soundly. I have a hard time sitting with my legs or arms in one position, they do feel like they are hurting, but it's more of a trapped feeling, like they should be moving. The Lyrica I take helps a lot, unless my iron gets low.
Avatar f tn Over the last 3 years I have been to many doctors and still do not have a diagnosis for my back problems. When I sit for more than a few minutes, are get a lot of pain in my lower back and buttocks, it goes down my legs and into my feet with severe pain and spasms. I must stand. I often have to jump from foot to foot for quite a while because the pain is so intense. Of late when I stand, it feel like the bones in my feet and ankes are broken and it is hard to get my legs going.
1591337 tn?1297101349 I get weird feelings in my arms and legs when sleeping or trying to go to sleep. its kind of a tingling feeling and it makes me not able to sleep or to wake up. Its driving me nuts and something hasta be done. Even if I take ambien I wake up with it also.
749148 tn?1302860959 hands... she prescribed Mirapex. I have not started it yet and wondered if anyone out there is using this medication and what your thoughts are. She recommended a TENS unit for the rib pain I guess it's caused from a miss-firing message between my spinal cord and my brain, even though no lesions showed on my thoracic MRI doesn't mean they are not there...hummmm.
515698 tn?1211489523 Then the last Neuro said it was spasms or spasticity . As I was unable to sit or stand still the two hours in his waiting room. So he put me on Neurontin 2,400 a day. It helped a lot, did not have any more problems during the day. Just at night. With the Mirapex it was better but never stopped. When I asked my PCP for help, he said I had plenty of meds . Just play around until I found what worked for me .
Avatar n tn More commonly used treatments include Bachlophen. Aricept, Requip, Symmetryl and Mirapex. I was not tried on Xenazine which can be used due to the risk of depression but that has shown to be helpful. Botox injections can be used depending if the spasmic activity is localized. I am on the Catapres application which has shown to be helpful. The medication Zofran has shown to be of use in clinical study and was helpful for me.
Avatar n tn I have tardive dyskinesia which is clinically similar to Parkinson's and I have tardive akathesia which is similar to restless legs syndrome but it would depend on the cause of it. If its clinically similar to Parkinson's, I did not find Bachlophen, Mirapex, Aricept and Requip to be of help but many people do. I was ruled out for Tetrabenzene and Namenda but those have shown to be of help.
689327 tn?1240229164 I have RLS I take Mirapex, which is prescribed. there is an otc hylands restful leg that I have heard works. Some one else said to wrap your legs in ace bandages. hot hot baths. good luck, hope you find some relief soon.
420368 tn?1209071706 All this medicine is relativley new. I basically took requip 0.5 mg, then mirapex 0.125 mg. And I took clonazepam. Now it up to this...New medication for my crohn's and this medication for RLS. My brother has parkinsons disease as well as RLS, my mom's side of the family has RLS. I need help. not too sure who to turn too. my doctor has not recommened a neurologist. And I certainly don't know nuthin 'bout money trees either.. And so the weekend is here and no doctor in sight.
