Avatar m tn well if they are just doing it laparoscopicly, and just removing the cysts, general rule of feeling better is 2-4 weeks as its smaller incisions etc. When i had mine, it was 2 weeks and i started to feel a little better, but was closer to 4 weeks before i felt like i could start working out etc. For removing the ovary( are they looking at removing both or just 1) and uterus I'm not sure. I had to have my ovary removed via laparotomy so its a bigger incision and that was back in Feb/11..
Avatar n tn There is a regrowth pattern with ovaries it is called Ovarian Remmanet Syndrome May I suggest you to the forum for ovarian cysts there you will get the answers you need, there are other women there that have ORS any small piece of the ovary that is left after the surgery can regenerate the tissue and cysts can grow on them. This needs to be followed up because ovarian cancer can also be generated from these growths.
Avatar f tn Dear Bella, The first important decision is whether a person needs surgery or not. As most ovarian cysts are functional - that is related to the menstrual cycle - they will go away after a few menstrual cycles. For cysts that do not, go away, are greater than 4-5 cm, are causing pain, are associated with other finding (elevated CA 125, fluid in the abdominal, other tumors, etc) , look complex with both solid and cystic parts, and so on - surgical removal is the next step.
Avatar m tn Also check out the ovarian cyst forum at medhelp for discussion of the managements of ovarian cysts that are not related to ovarin cancer good luck
Avatar f tn This may or may not be harder to do the larger a cyst gets. Cysts can encapsulate the ovary since the ovary is only about the size of an almond so removing a cyst is more like shelling out a pearl (the ovary) from an oyster (the cyst). This site may be helpful to you - http://ovaryresearch.com/ovarian_cysts.htm. Is your doctor planning to do a cystectomy (cyst removal) so you will still have your ovary or at least most of it?
Avatar f tn Hello... I know you are worried sick about now...I went through something similar except my surgeon scared the *@#&@ out of me! My CA-125 was 26 and I had a large ovarian cyst as well...So, here's the thing...Most ovarian cysts rupture and fire off their egg and/or reabsorb. There are always cysts being made that enclose the eggs while they reach maturity. The CA-125 test is cr@p for testing ovarian cancer because it is influenced by hormone levels...
Avatar f tn Read the heartbreaking stories on the Ovarian Cancer Community if you need convincing. True, 95% of cysts are benign, but that 5% risk of having a life threatening situation is serious. Believe me, I wanted my doctor to suggest something other than surgery when I got the upsetting news, but I had no choice but to accept his wise recommendation.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst on my left ovary - in fact I'm having the left ovary and fallopian tube along with the cyst on the left ovary removed March 27th. Has anyone else been thrrough this? Im in pain especially during ovulation. I wish I didn't have to wait that long for the surgery.
Avatar f tn I was one of the lucky few who did happen to have a laparoscopy just to rule out anything serious, was found to have ovarian cancer, and was caught at stage 1C. I thank God for my doctors who wanted to be thorough! There's a good chance that nothing will be found, but why worry when you have the chance to find out for sure? Best wishes!
Avatar n tn Hi There, There are definitely situations where there are several possible approaches. For young women with pain and ovarian cysts, the most common approach is watchful waiting so as not to do unnecessary surgery. Commonly, one would consider adding a medical intervention to suppress ovarian cycling such as the birth control pill or even inducing artificial menopause with something like lupron. If the pain and cysts go away, then it is usually reasonable to continue on the pill.
Avatar f tn I had chocolate cysts, endometriosis and tumor on my right ovary and it was removed during laparoscopy almost 8 years ago. Since then I was on Yasmin birth control pills, had a punctuation and was on Zoladex shots for sih months in order to save my left ovary, because I have cysts and endometriosis on it too.
Avatar f tn I have had an ultrasound and MRI that indicate an ovarian cyst (6cm, 4cm) in my left ovary. OB/GYN suggests oopherectomy and testing cysts during thsi surgery to determine if more would need to be done. MRI shows septations and Ultrasound mentioned something about possibly internal papillary projections. MRI offers no definitive answer...just possibility cyst could be a hemmoragic cyst, an endometrioma, or cystic neoplasm.
Avatar f tn Dermoid cysts can contain hair, teeth, etc, and may or may not be possible to drain depending on your specific case. Laparoscopy could be an option and has been done on large cysts with tiny or small incisions. Cystadenomas contain a mixture of fluid and mucus and should not be allowed to leak, therefore cant be drained. Laparotomy would be required. Dermoid cysts are more common than cystadenoma in young women, which I guess you are since you mention uni.
Avatar n tn He sent me to see a colon specialist and a colonoscopy was done and everything looked ok. A laparoscopy was done and he drained several cyst on my left ovary. my laparoscopy was done November 11, 2008. on January 15 I was having pelvic pain again. A doctor in the ER sent me for a vaginal ultrasound. the ultrasound revealed that my right ovary measured 2.6x3.9x3.6 centimeters. left ovary measures 3.7x2.3x3.2 centimeters. there were numerous follicular cyst in both ovaries.
Avatar n tn The small patch of endometriosis was cauterized during the laparoscopy when it was discovered. The size was 1.5cm At that time that was the only endo that was seen and I did not have any other abnormalities. The cysts that are seen now are reported as being simple cysts. The doctor has stated that they are not endometriomas. He feels that they are cysts of ovulation and should not be causing such pain. He also feels the nausea has nothing to do with the cysts.
Avatar n tn Laparoscopic surgery seems to be a possibility for you, IN THE HANDS OF THE RIGHT SURGEON. There are methods of removing cysts laparoscopically in which the cyst is "bagged" and therefore there is much less danger of a spill. Possibly your doctor is not experienced in these techniques, and all it would take would be to find one who is. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I have posted here in this forum before due to the presence of a fibroid and ovarian cysts. In the left ovary, there is a septum so the doctor ran the CA - 125 in January . It came elevated (95 UI/ml) so he told me that I needed to get operated and depending on the frozen biopsy of the left ovary they would decide if they needed to do a total hysterectomy. Since then, they have repeated the marker several times and it continues being in the same range.

Avatar m tn When I went to the OBGYN he said I had a Dermoid cyst and he recommended removing it and my right ovary during laproscopy. I am ok with that part but I asked him if that was causing my symptoms and he said he didn't think so. He said Dermoids rarely cause symptoms until they get quite large and then it's usually pain. So my question is should I be concerned that there is something more going on in this cyst? Should I consider getting a second opinion?
Avatar f tn of ovulation. Many women have many cysts during their lifetimes. Many times also, these cysts simply disappear on their own. Other times, they need to be removed. . Unfortunately, sometimes the "treatment" for avoiding cysts is taking Birth Control pills.. no ovulation... no cyst forumation. However, with your situation that wouldn't really be a good idea since you're trying to conceive.
Avatar f tn who said it could be fibroids, he sent me to hospital for a scan where the radiologist said there were at least two cysts that may be caused by endermetreosis. i then saw a gynae registrar who said it was unlikely to be endermetreosis i wasn't uncomfortable enough during examination, she suggested it could be a dermoid cyst so sent me for a blood test and said she would book me in for a laparoscopy.
1701959 tn?1488551541 So in May I had a sonogram due to some discomfort and it was found that I had an ovarian cysts the size of a gulf ball. Since then the pain has increased and a recent sonogram shows it is now the about 6 cm so I am being sent for the CA 125 marker to make sure we are ok. They said it looks like simple cyst, fluid filled but I am scared to death! Also, I have never had ovarian cysts before when I was on the pill but since I came off of it and got the MIrena IUD I now have this cyst.
Avatar m tn s or earlier then you have less than a 2% ovarian cancer over a life time. 98% of ovarian cysts are benign cysts can be the size of grapefruits. I was surprised that an ultra sound could show ovarian cancer but it can. Mine showed cancer. I had an ultrasound on Thursday. The doctor called me Monday and told me I had a mass. I saw the Oncologist on the next day and was in surgery in three days. You probably all ready know this but it is good to go to a GYN/Oncologist.
