Avatar n tn It was a moderate to severe stroke. Left side affected. She is in therapy; has regained some movement in arm and leg/ toes and fingers. The movement is slighter though in her arm. She can speak and comprehend (most of the time) and is finally starting to eat. My question is; does this sound like good progress considering her age, etc? Has anyone experiened a loved ones rehabilation from stroke at this age? What can we expect?

Avatar n tn My stroke was 7 years ago and I improved most in year 5 before other physical ailments became a problem. Will I ever be HEALED, doubt it but I definitely improve a little every day. I'm better now, stronger than I was last month. I'm still having great problems with my balance and fine motor skills but I make progress each day.

OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
17568 tn?1424973559 There are many techniques that can be used during a physical therapy program including massaging and tapping. We can use electrical stimulation or a TENS machine. There is also a technique called mirror therapy. And there are also medications that can be prescribed for phantom limb pain.
Avatar n tn The goal is to keep the pain to a manageable level to progress with rehabilitation, which then can lead to long term pain relief. Medication, heat and massage therapy, posture training courses and physical exercises might help with relieving the pain especially if imaging techniques done are normal. A rehabilitation doctor may help design exercises suited for you. Take care and do keep us posted.

Also, rehabilitation and physical therapy is important to facilitate healing and improve over all well being. Keep in close contact with your doctor in the next few weeks and take note of any changes that you may experience. For now have adequate rest, avoid stress, and undergo rehabilitation. Wishing you all the best. Regards.
Avatar n tn My doc seems to leave me with only the trial and error path. I have exhausted physical therapy, Lyrica, Cymbalta, Neurontin, Tens unit, ice, heat, massage. Narcotics help in desparate times but not a long term solution. Can't seem to find any benefit to this debilitating condition which is an unforunate generic diagnosis to say the least. Appreciate any recommendations you can make. thanks.

She has done well and think with quality therapy she can return to being mostly self sufficient. Is there anyone with recommendations or resources for getting this approved? We understand it is an insurance issue but we might be willing to pay out of pocket for additional days for her. She will need 24/7 care at this time.

I am having increasing trouble with walking and, although I don't know if this is going to help, I think it's worth a shot. So far I have found out a number of interesting things. My flexibility is okay for my age (although it seems worse to me than it used to be), but I have weakness in my hip flexors and in my ankle muscles.
