6387609 tn?1393274731 Check about doing in-home care...that's what I do & I love it....my work is easy (nothing I don't already do at my own home) & even though it doesn't pay the best its still very rewarding to know that you arehelping someone in need & possibly keeping them from being sent to a "nursing home". I work for a company called Home Helpers & there are several throughout the US.
Avatar n tn For two weeks she was in intensive care and than she was moved to a nursing/rehabilitation center. The first nursing home was terrible. So we moved after one month. She's been receiving physical therapy since the move. We have noticed some improvements but she remains on a feeding tube although the home has indicated she has had glasses of water and successfully eaten crackers. Her alertness remains non consistent. Its as if she's sleepwalking.

Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
Avatar f tn I do in home care & I love it. This is the 1st time I have done this line of work. I have done nursing home & group home work before but this is so much better as it is 1 on 1 w/ people in their own houses & I got to set the hours I wanna work. There's no heavy lifting. Basically I just make sure they take meds, do some house cleaning as needed, take to dr appt if needed, & keep them company. Maybe you should try it. You might like it as well.

Avatar n tn I've recently just gotten a job at a nursing home and I need to go have a tuberculosis skin test done. I'm type one. Has anyone had this done and is it safe? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I have been involved in stroke rehabilitation for the super elderly with great success. Without exception, I have found the professional services not worth the powder to blow them to Mars. The "consultants" charge $200 an hour. First of all, do not give up hope. (1) Hire your own help to assist in rehabilitation. A person does not need a degree to hold an elderly woman's hand. There is no substitute for TLC and love. (2) Spend as much time as possible with the person.
Avatar n tn Later they told us he also suffered a stroke. He is in a nursing home and a week ago failed his 2nd swallow test (the one performed in the hospital). They immediately stopped all therapy, physical and speech, at first saying they were giving him a rest because he wasn't making any progress. Later my mother was told it was stopped due to insurance reasons.
Avatar m tn Would he have learned anything in prison, something like rehabilitation? Probably not, but at least he would have been incarcerated and not able to be involved with this. Where do situations like this leave us? This kid didn't learn anything from his first scrape with the law. Chances are, this won't be his last either. He'll do some time for this, but when he gets out his gang will give him "props" and he will have garnered more respect from his fellow gang members.
7463033 tn?1399311106 Lol I work at a nursing and rehab center. I get the older pts. So much fun though. They sensed I was pregnant before I even knew!!!
Avatar n tn Hi there. Muscle wasting could be due to disuse atrophy like sedentary jobs, medical conditions limiting their movement or decreased activity levels can lose muscle tone and develop atrophy. Other type is neurogenic atrophy, which occurs when there is an injury to or disease of a nerve connecting to the muscle like in polio, guillain barre syndrome or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Avatar m tn For skilled nursing facility, stroke survivors require daily skilled nursing or rehabilitation services that can be provided only on an inpatient basis. So, he may have been shifted. Regards.
Avatar n tn He went through 3 weeks at a Rehabilitation Hospital where his progress was slow. He regained his swallowing, but not much more improvement. He was transferred to a skilled nursing rehab and is not making much progress. We are told there is a time window for improvement. He still requires full assist. Does anyone know of a wonderful rehabilitation facility that actually could give him the care he needs to gain some function. His mind is sharp, but his body can't do anything.
518117 tn?1429276273 I have been researching on the net about several non-profit organizations, that assist people like me with work at home jobs. One organization is called NTI and the other is called The Job Accomodation Network. Has anyone possibly heard of these organizations? What I have researched on them has been good so far. Are there anymore organizations that assist people like me with jobs that will meet my limits due to my disabilities? I have got to do something to supplement our household income.
Avatar n tn I am looking to find a rehabilitation facility for my nephew while my sister is being treated for aggresive chemotherapy? He is incontinent, has vision problems and has not seen a doctor in years. What kind of facility could I send him so he can get the proper care and attention he needs while my sister is ill? It looks as though I may get custodial rights and would like to know the best possible choices to make in a short period of time. Thanks.
1041487 tn?1256327719 She has been in a nursing home for about a month now, and the CNAs do passive-range-of-motion exercises with her legs, arms and neck once per day. I do the same exercises with her once in the evening. This is the only recovery therapy that she has received. The Director of Physical Therapy says that nothing else can be done for her, because she is unresponsive. Is this normal procedure? I would think that a Speech Therapist would come in and try some sort of exercises with her.

Avatar f tn I am nursing school and I did 3 years straight with no semesters off for pre-nursing at a community college. When I transferred to do my bachelors degree this college has no semesters off as well, which you get a bachelors degree in 2-3years and you may have a week off or sometimes no break at all. Since I have been pregnant I haven't been motivated to keep going I'm always tired.
1508698 tn?1360215710 Hi all!! I am looking into going to a outpatient rehabilitation center. I was wondering if anyone here has ever gone, what all it included, if you liked it, and the price. Just wanted some input from people who have gone so I will know what to expect.
Avatar n tn He now has scoliosis because of poor posture, massive headaches and ear aches, hallucinations, and other problems due to being depressed and given up. We really want to find a home where he can be among people with the same rehabilitation challenges. It would be ideal if the home offered psychologist and a physical therapist; however, even if the home had one or the other it would be better than his situation right now. He just sits at home doing nothing.
