Avatar f tn We understand it is an insurance issue but we might be willing to pay out of pocket for additional days for her. She will need 24/7 care at this time. She currently has no where to go that would not require stairs and she’s not able to do that yet. We have workers at her home making the adjustments for her but need another week for her to have bathroom on same level of home.
Avatar f tn We are encouraged to send her to a skilled nursing facility for further rehabilitation, however we are not sure when for they had not given us a discharge date for my grandmother. My question is, as soon as my grandmother receives the rehabilitation treatment, how long will it take for her to be able to walk or talk again? Would she be at risk for a stroke happening again? And how would this affect her life span? Any help would do. Thank you very much for your time.
Avatar f tn Either way ask for what therapy should be followed to address any deficits and ask for a doctors order for those therapies, which may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy. You should never have been allowed out of the hospital without some explanation of preventative measues being taken. Does he have any deficits? Avatar n tn Hey, I am sorry to hear about your father. As you have experienced with your father, stroke is a common and a serious condition. The way that our brain reacts following a stroke is pretty much amazing. In case of your father, regaining his abilities to walk and talk is good expected. The fact that the hand is still "paralyzed" (although I won't call it paralysis) is because the upper limb's functional use in normal individuals is very complicated.

Avatar m tn t mean all strokes are this way. My Mom had a massive stroke on 10/7/14 and was awake for a while, enough for all of us to get to the hospital (she was currently in the hospital for blood treatment). She was having her stroke and trying to communicate to us, etc, and it was really difficult to watch.. as well to write this :( She then fell asleep... what we though was sleeping, but she was really falling into a coma. We were told she would never wake up.

Avatar m tn You should not be waiting to see a doctor when you suspect a TIA as if you had one, it is very possible you could have a stroke while waiting for treatment. Danger level is high & you need treatment started today! Please, won't you see the doctor today on this & if need be, go to the ER if the doctor can't squeeze you in today? Using a magnetic resonance machine, doing an MRA/MRV, is better than CT scan when looking for evidence of TIA (infarcts) in your head.
Avatar n tn Is there a website listing support groups for stoke victims? Does anyone know if there is a support group for stroke victims in the Owatonna or Faribault, Minnesota area? Thank you!
