I believe the poster is referring to one of the Regular insulins being given on a sliding scale. This is an outdated method of using insulin. My suggestion is to see an endo and get put on a regimen of basal and bolus (long acting and short acting) insulin and learn how to match your carbs to your insulin dose. You don't want to continue to have highs like that on a regular basis.

Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. The ideal is of course for glucose levels to be in the "normal" before meal range of between something like 70-126 (different doctors use slightly different numbers, but this is pretty typical). So, really, being irregular is common for a lot of women. Especially in your age range. And especially if you were trying to manipulate it yourself with Vit K or supplements. Self treating isn't a great idea. What about Planned Parenthood for you? It's really teen friendly and you do have to pay but it is on a sliding fee scale. It's a subsidized program meaning it's available for those without regular insurance and who can't pay.

Carb ratio to determine your insulin dose based on what you are actually eating, not a set dose or a sliding scale. You need to work to lower your carbs, and find your correct doses of insulin because obviously your diabetes is way out of control. A blood sugar of 445 if sustained on a regular basis is dangerous and will lead to extensive complications. (And I'm sure you feel terrible!

What I do know is that novolin (Regular) is a very outdated mode of insulin. The Lantus you were on was a newer basal (long-acting) insulin, but wouldn't work as well unless it was combined with a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before meals. That is the standard of care. I would see an endocrinologist and get on appropriate insulin regimen because 150-300 is much too high to sustain blood sugars.
I am taking Humulin-N but my sugar level every morning is around 225.
First off stop messing with these. all you are doing is irritating them more.
2nd, you need to find a place to be seen. these could be skin tags but odds are more that they are warts. planned parenthood charges on a sliding scale and is usually cheaper than a regular doctor's office visit. also you can call your local health department and find out what your clinic options are in your area.

I went to a diabetes education class that teaches about the sliding scale and how to take your Humalog. However, my doc gave me a formula to use to counteract high blood sugars when not enough insulin has been taken. It's (bloodsugar) - 100 divided by 40. So, if your blood sugar is 300 you would subtract 100 to get 200. Divide that by 40 to get 5 units of Humalog. I also have a scale for when I eat. It's for every 15 grams of carbs I take 2 units of Humalog.
