Avatar m tn The neck is something you don't want to ignore when it hurts as you described. I suggest you see a doctor and have x-rays or CT or MRI done before anything else. DO NOT have your neck adjusted by a chiropractor until you know the cause of the pain and stiffness. You could have several different things going on..menengitis, herniated disc, bulding disc, sprain or strain of the muscles...it is important you see a doctor as soon as you can. I wish you the best. Let us know whats going on...ok?
Avatar m tn Hello Dear, Tension headache is a result of muscle contraction in the face, neck and scalp as a result of heightened emotions, tension or stress. One way to help reduce stress is by planning ahead and organizing your day. Another way is to allow more time to relax. Applying heat or ice to sore muscles may ease the tension. It seems that your pain is a combined effect of tension and the cervical bulging. You need to adapt a healthy lifestyle, reduce stress and physiotherapy exercises with yoga.

Avatar m tn Hi khoatic, I promise not to freak you out. After reading your comments, I'm more inclined to think this neck pain is a combination of your running around and lifting things at work between 20 -25 hours and sitting at your computer for endless hours. You say you spend an average of about 40 hours a week " doing it". By doing it, do you mean sitting typing on the computer.
Avatar m tn I'm sorry to hear that your pain has returned. Phil has offered you concrete, informative, good suggestions. I second his opinions. Spine surgery frequently leads to more spine surgery. Fusions are serious and should be thee very last choice, at least in my opinion. I wanted to add that the very best PCP I've had was an Internal Medicine D.O. ((Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine). She performed osteopathic manipulations on my SIJ and other areas. D.O.
Avatar m tn • take regular doses of paracetamol, ibuprofen, or a combination of the two, to control pain – ibuprofen gel can be rubbed on to your neck as an alternative to taking tablets (always follow the instructions that come with the medication) • try holding a hot water bottle or heat pack to your neck – this can help reduce the pain and any muscle spasms, although some people find cold packs offer better relief • sleep on a low, firm pillow at night – using too many pillows may force your neck to ben
Avatar f tn I have had a headache for 2 1/2 weeks now and it started as a tension headache with a lot of neck pain and now I am having eye pain, blurred vision, flashy vision, one small gray spot in my vision, pain in temple, dizziness. The only thing that is constant is the blurred vision. I kept looking up symptoms of tension headache and it said noting about the vision stuff which had me freaked out. I hhve also had a x-ray of neck.

759386 tn?1324562124 t shared the same experience of needles in neck equaling extreme illness and lasting pain. Also... when talking to my headache doctor about botox injections for migraines he said he absolutely would not consider doing them except for a few points on my face because I have chiari... and the reason why was because he did not want to mess with needles and freezing in my neck because he thought it would make the chiari a whole lot worse....

595212 tn?1222563183 Your frustration is coming in part from not having a diagnosis and the never ending pain. Stress does increase pain but it is rare that it causes all your pain. And I agree that sometimes physicians diagnosis you with "stress" because they can't determine what is wrong with us. I know, I went through it for years. So you should begin from the beginning, again. I have said it here many times. Physicians work for us, we hire them. They are not God's.

1764925 tn?1682604632 Pain management docs push nerve blocks, using steroid to reduce inflammation and reduce pain. Research also shows that the steroids can hinder healing. It is strange to jump to that when he/she said it's normal. Physical therapy is far less intrusive, as well as other therapies. I've tried almost EVERY therapy, treatment, medication, etc., and will be getting my second cervical spinal fusion/ discectomy in five years ( more than 10 years with cervical spine pain).
2117989 tn?1340143239 When you take opiates for too long the sensation of pain often increases. This is because opiates eventually reduce your brain's natural ability to ease pain. The brain has natural pain surpression chemicals that are greatly reduced when replaced by opiate feel good chemicals. When you stop opiates you are left with few feel good chemicals for a while until your brain replentishes it's natural feel good chemicals again.
569892 tn?1353896337 This could be a tension headache due to stress. You also complain of pain in the neck. It is quite possible that the cause of pain could be cervical spondilitis or disc protrusion. I would suggest you to continue with the neck massages and exercises. Please take a second opinion with another neurologist.Take care!

Avatar f tn My occipital nodes are also swollen and have been for weeks along with pretty severe neck pain at the base of my skull. My primary ordered blood work to check for infection as the cause of the swollen lymph nodes, but nothing showed up. Tonight it's so bad that I can't sleep (it's 4:40am). I just don't know what else to do and I think my drs are getting sick of hearing from me all the time. I'm in misery! Completely not able to function and haven't been for a month.
