Avatar m tn However, you likely fractured (broke) your finger, and that should be treated by a professional to reduce the risk of arthritis and future range of motion issues. Xrays should be taken to evaluate the bones. In the meantime, elevate your hand above heart level to help get the swelling down. If you can't get an acceptable appointment with an orthopaedic doctor, go to your family doctor.

Most finger problems are dealt with in this way to help to immobilise the finger to let it heal. You can take pain relief as directed on the packet if you hurting a lot. Your profile says that you are 114 years old - congratulations a very ripe old age!
Avatar m tn Aside from the most nasty scar in the world, I have so much stiffness in my pinky finger at the knuckle and swelling in the entire finger. How long should the stiffness and swelling last? Will it be permanent? I started occupational therapy and they seem to think it will get better but it will take months not weeks. I am skeptical about occupational therapy since just about everything they're doing, I could do at home for free.
Avatar m tn Also, with surgical swelling it helps to take Chymoral Forte tablets to reduce pain and swelling, but you should see a doctor or pharmacist to consider if you need it and if so, the right dosage.

Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, the pain and swelling in the finger can be due to pulp space infection or traumatic arthritis. If there is throbbing type of pain suggests pus formation. This may not be due to allergy. The plain radiograph will help to rule out pathology. Finger splint may be needed to give an absolute rest to the finger. Pain killers with anti-inflammatory activity will helps to reduce the inflammation and antibiotics to control infection, against prescription.
Avatar n tn It could be an inflamed tendon on the palm of your hand. Try icing it to reduce swelling. Also make sure you're not curling/clenching your hands in your sleep - many, MANY people do this so it's not unusual. Purchase an over the counter wrist brace that will keep your hands and wrists in a neutral position through the night.
300987 tn?1219983665 Did you eat something with a lot of salt last night? Salt makes you bloated...have you googled how to reduce the swelling? Maybe go for a walk to eliminate some water weight?
Avatar m tn That was the riskiest conduct of this encounter. A few days later, lo and behold, a tiny growth appeared on that same finger (pointer finger). It was so small, I normally wouldn't think twice about it, but added 2 and 2. It MUST be from my encounter. Just too coincidental. What are my concerns? What could this be? (Please assume, for purposes of the answer that there IS a growth on my finger and it IS related to the event. I am having it excised by dermatologist in two days.
Avatar f tn I had a burst vein in my finger and it got purple and had swelling. It happens. For me, it was when I was walking and my fingers swelled up (they do that somethings inexplicably) and I had my wedding ring on. I have a friend who is an orthopedic surgeon and he told me it was this. Ice it, rest your hand on a pillow above you when lounging on the couch, etc. I got better very quickly and let's see if you do as well.
Avatar n tn I broke my finger and my friend, who is an x-ray tech, x-rayed it for me. I got the photos but all the dr's I called are booked until next week. I was wondering it my finger needed pins and/or if a trip to the ER is in order or if I can wait until next week. The finger was broken on the 26th so it's been 5 days already. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/jamiejustin/finger-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/jamiejustin/finger2.
Avatar f tn I closed a window on my finger really hard. It hurts a lot and it looks like it has a bump. It was my pointer finger close to the articulation of the tip. Yesterday it was a little swollen, red and kinda dark. And I couldnt move my finger a lot. I put ice on it and a gel. Today it still hurts a lot, still looks a little bit weird and its hard to move. What should i do?
Avatar f tn My dentist has finally given me antibiotics to take (yesterday) but is there anything I can do to reduce the swelling more quickly? The pain is quite intense and so I'm taking regular pain medications but they aren't hugely effective. I really want to know I might start to feel better. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn Two years later it began to turn bright red and hurt really bad. They found that I had started to grow a second finger (or bone) underneath my my finger. The best description of it would be a bone spur. I went thru ANOTHER surgery to get the bone removed before it could really hurt me. The bone came out and measured 2 and a half inches long.
Avatar n tn you should put your hand in a bowl of cold water with ice cubes to help reduce any swelling inside or outside the skin. good luck.
1024532 tn?1380058352 I have been experiencing swollen joints in right hand the index and middle finger are also swollen. I have also a stiff jaw and ankles are weak. I also woke up with a stiff neck. I have been tested for RA and thyroid. Gave me a shot in joint of cortizone and I had bad reactions and still swollen and red. I went to ER Monday and they gave me Vicodin for pain. Has anyone else had similar symptons and still negative results on blood work for rhmeutoid arthritis? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn Be sure not to wrap it too tight. Ice is also a good tool to reduce swelling but I would be you have tried that as well as OTC antiinflamatories such as IB. NSAID have to be used religiously and at the correct disage to be benefical. (Sorry my spelling is bad today) Again if you are having swelling and pain after 3 months a doc's opinion is long over due. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I am 20 yr boy ,I masturbated daily twice in a day & mspermsms are come out quickly in a seconds.
Avatar m tn Quite often I know when this swelling is about to happen as I get an uncomfortable feeling or slight itch and take anti-histamines to try and reduce the onset of the condition. Often the swelling is so severe that it causes my skin to bruise after the swelling has gone. I find that over the counter anti-histamines do not help and the swelling can actually carry on even after taking the likes of Benadryl.
Avatar n tn s rest just to find that I have a sore on my left pointer finger. Its mid-point on my finger preventing me from bending it all the way. When I attempt to bend my finger it hurts like crazy, this feels almost like a hair bump on the inside of my hand. Very uncomfortable. This bump doesn't have a head to it like other bumps I've experienced in the past.
Avatar n tn re at home, using ice packs on your jaw/mouth may also help reduce swelling. try to avoid heat (even though the heat may feel better) = because heat can actually cause swelling to increase. Stay on soft foods - a liquid diet if you have to - but it's very important to stay well hydrated. Jello, pudding, eggs, oatmeal, etc. are all good ideas. I hope you start feeling better soon, but please do make an appointment with your dentist ASAP.
Avatar m tn There was no glass left in the finger and the cut area did not get inflamed. It healed rather quickly. The swelling remained. I called the doctor after a week and was told that perhaps it needed more time for the swelling to go down. She said give it another week to 10 days. Two weeks later, still swollen and difficult to bend. I still had tenderness but not extreme discomfort. I went back to the specialist (Orthopedic sine the hand specialists were all at a conference).
Avatar m tn Ever now and then, some days more than others I get a sharp burring sensation in my left pinky, or index finger that comes and goes quickly but is painful enough to make me stop what I am doing and if I am holding something I would either let go or drop it. I'm thinking arthritis but am not sure.
1232362 tn?1333135406 Stay inside a cool place, wear light clothes, drink plenty of cold fluids, and elevate the extremities to reduce swelling. The heat edema can resolve very quickly in this setting and also prevent heatstroke and more serious heat-related illnesses. It is also important to know the symptoms of heatstroke such as dizziness or confusion, slurring words or stumbling, and abnormal behavior. Do write back if you have additional questions. Warm regards.
