Rebif vs avonex

Common Questions and Answers about Rebif vs avonex

rebif

462771 tn?1358355843 If so, if your fearful of the Tysabri you can always go to Rebif, which is 44mg, or Betaseron 1ml vs. the 30mgs you are on w/the Avonex. And, there is always the daily Copax, which I'm sure you know has shown to work for some too - though by different mechanism than the interferons. If you stay w/interferons, least your body is already 5 months into them and it would just be an increase and sub-q. Did they treat your ON Jason?
Avatar m tn yes, it was the va neuro recently that mentioned rebif or avonex and suggested strongly i go with one of them versus the copaxone. this guy typically minimizes any symptom i have(my impression). can't talk to a nurse there until doc Rx's something. i don't even want to discuss that office.
Avatar n tn what MS shots copaxone, rebif, betaseron & avonex has the smallest percentage of blood fractions
439253 tn?1240835565 Hi Frog, i love the stuff. I have taken Avonex, Rebif, Copaxone(sp), and back on Rebif. The side effects are minimal and something tylenol can take care of. The three days a week bit is nice and I think you will like it. As much as something like that can be liked. You may have some extra perspiration at night but turn up the fan a tad. Hope it works for you well...
1140169 tn?1370185076 I've been using a Rebismart unit to inject Rebif for over 2 years now. I get a months supply at a time, which comes in a small box containing 4 multidose vials, each vial has 3 - 44mcg doses, (one weeks worth). Last month my druggist aked me if I'd be willing to take a months supply of pre filled syringes. They had ordered them by mistake for another client who used to use syringes, but now uses a Rebismart injecter, and refused the syringes.
Avatar f tn Copaxone is the weakest and he did not recommend it for me. Betaseron, Rebif and Avonex are essentially the same drug, Intefereon beta, administered in different doses. My Neuro is a big believer in Neutralizing antibodies. Avonex NAB rate is around 5% Rebif around 10-15% Betaseron 25-30% NABs can bind to the active side of the interferon molecule rendering it useless. So naturally (if you believe in NABs) you would likely pick the one with the lowest NABs.
422172 tn?1215990852 When I was dx'ed last fall my neuro gave me info on 3 studies: Rebif New Formulation vs placebo; efficacy of combining Avonex and Copaxone; and a natural history study, as an adjunct to the Avonex/Copaxone study. I declined all of them as I live about 450 kms from the research facility and being in a study involves monthly follow ups. Winter was around the corner, I was overwhelmed by my dx, and did not want to make a commitment to be doing all that travel.
Avatar f tn s work about the same and the choice you have to make depends on your personal preferences. Copaxone is one class of drug while Rebif, Avonex, and Betaseron are all interferons. The British UK site has one of the best walk-throughs on picking a drug that I have seen. It discusses in depth each DMD and its side-effects and injection schedule/technique. Just pretend you live in the UK and spend about 45 minutes working through their presentation and you will feel so much smarter.
Avatar f tn Avonex (which I’ve used for 11 years) and others are notably absent from your list. Avonex, Rebif, and Betaseron have been around longest and have the strongest safety profiles. If your MS is more aggressive, then you may be more inclined to consider Gilenya, Tecfidera, Aubagio, or Tysabri. All of the DMDs are discussed from a neutral perspective at the link below: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Treating-MS/Medications Choose a medicine that you can adhere to the dosing schedule.
849876 tn?1238925227 I was given the choice too - my options from the neuro were Rebif or Copaxone and I picked the copax.
Avatar f tn MY DR WANTS ME TO TAKE AVONEX OR REBIF, TRIED COPAXONE IN 2004 HORRIBLE LUMPS THE SIZE OF GOLF BALLS. STOPPED AFTER 3 MOS. I AM GETTING WORSE IN MY GAIT. MY KNEES ARE WEAK & IN PAIN. I AM JUST INTOERABLE TO ABOUT EVERY DRUG OUT THERE. CAN'T TAKE ANTIDEPRESSANTS- WHICH I NEED TO TAKE ACCORDING TO ALL I READ. WHAT HAVE YOU STRUGGLED THROUGH & HOW LONG TO MAKE A DECISION. IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE & SCAREY. MY QUAILTY OF LIFE IS GETTING WORSE - SO ONLY A FOOL WOULDN'T TRY - RIGHT?!
Avatar f tn t inject daily so Copaxone was out. Then the needle with Avonex was too big, nor was there an auto inject so Avonex was out. Rebif has an auto injector & it is only 3x's a week, which is the medium of the other two. So far no major side affects. Two weeks ago I thought I was having a reaction to the meds so I skipped two injection days. I resumed the injections on Wednesday & so far no reaction. I've been on Rebif since April and am still getting use to sticking myself.....
1192745 tn?1287905858 So sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I also can't offer an opinon on Avonex vs Rebif, as I take Copaxone. Actually I did try Rebif briefly, but had to discontinue as it elevated my liver enzymes. This is a risk with the interferon DMD's, and as far as I understand the risk is virtually the same for all of them.
1149087 tn?1415316549 I am surprised that your doctor is trying Rebif after you had a dpressive reaction to Avonex. This doesn't make sense to me. Yes, the Interferon-beta-1a and 1b meds are known for sometimes causing depression or making it worse. Major or untolerable depression is an indication for discontinuing the interferon medications. The problem is that the side effects of the interferons is typically "sode-dependent".
572735 tn?1217201019 If you are allergic to interferon (Rebif and Avonex), then you will be allergic to the Betaseron. You were allergic to Copax too? What type of allergic reaction did you have, and how long did it take to happen? If I end up allergic to Rebif, my Neuro told me my only options are Copax or Tysabri. Were the reactions different from med to med? Please describe if you can.
1320763 tn?1274404069 Hi there! Nice to meet you! I understand keeping it under his hat for work. When, or if it's time, he'll divulge. If he's doing well he may just take the add on of a DMD in stride and not notice a thing. While I can't speak to the side affects of Avonex, I am on Rebif and find them very tolerable. Went about my night to back to school night after the 1st shot and the rest is history.
Avatar f tn I am an MS patient and I have recently started taking Avonex, (I have had two injections so far) and I have been having problems sleeping.Does anyone know if Avonex causes insomnia, at all? I have read all the possible side effects Avonex may bring, but sleeplessness doesn't seem to be in the list.
1983221 tn?1333506185 one of our long term members, essdipity, had the same problem with the itching and switched to either Rebif or Avonex. Good luck in your decision. Was Gilenya offered as an option or just the interferons?
Avatar f tn Flu-like symptoms are a fairly common side effect during the initial weeks of Avonex treatment. It is recommended that you take your Avonex injection before bedtime. Immediately before your injection, and for the 24 hours that follow the injection, patients have found that use of over the counter pain and fever reducing medications can help with this common side effect." You could also get on the Avonex website for further info. good luck. hope that you feel better soon.
