Common Questions and Answers about Rebif flu shot

rebif

5485096 tn?1375574235 The drug company rep at Rebif told me it was ok to have the flu shot but not to take it on the same day as my Rebif or I would have increased side effects.
1394601 tn?1328032308 I have been on Rebif for seven months now. I take my shot in the morning. I also take one 5-325 oxycodone/acetaminophen at that time. I wonder if the acetaminophen is enough? I always feel like my stomach is upset when taking that along with the Advil. Is the oxycodone enough?
Avatar f tn I've been on Rebif since Sept 2009. I was terrified of the possible side effects. So far, no problems, either with flu-like sfx, liver, etc. You'll find lots of good tips here for how to inject easily, how to avoid the sfx, etc -- but here's my experience: I take 2 Advil & 1 benadryl 30-45 minutes before I inject, and an additional Advil about an hour after. I use a heating pad to warm the shot site for a few minutwes both before & after the shot.
1207048 tn?1282174304 I've been on Rebif 22mcg for 2 1/2 years. No relapses. For a while, the thigh shots burned for a few seconds as I injected, but it's better now. I sometimes have a small headache the morning after, but it's rare, and I have no other flu-y issues. i admit that before I started Rebif the flu-y idea really bothered me, but it's never been an issue.
1207048 tn?1282174304 I took my first Rebif shot on Thursday afternoon. I'm praying it is just coincidence, but since Thursday evening I've had a headache and muscle aches. The muscle aches are the worst part, and I'm extremely uncomfortable. I've tried Icy Hott, Tylenol, and ibuprofen, but they aren't doing much good, and I'm not sleeping well, which is making everything worse. Any suggestions for me?
Avatar m tn Good luck and the only other advise I can give you is to take your shots at night and take motrin or tylenol before the shot. I have been on rebif for six months and everything seems to be going ok. I forgot to take meds before the shot Sunday and I woke up at 2am with a headache and muscle pains took motrin and I was fine 20 minutes later. My liver enzymes are elevated a little by the doctor said that is normal.
1002640 tn?1280746685 I took Rebif (very similar) for a while, and I made sure of a couple of things - I took 400mg Ibuprofen just before I took my shot, and I took my shot just before bed. Most of the time when I woke up, I felt fine. Occasionally I still felt a little "flu like" in the morning, and I just took a little more Ibuprofen and I was good to go. The rest of the next day went fine. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Rebif is a 3 times a week shot and the shot goes into the fatty tisue just under the skin. The flu symptoms were worse at first but left almost completely after a few months. Last year I tried to return to work. I missed quite a few shots and the flu symptoms came back including this time extreme eye pain. When I asked my Dr about it he said that headaches and eye pain were a common symptom of interferon which both Rebif and Avonex are.
432312 tn?1265644974 A few months later my Dr told me about Rebif which was new to the market at that time. Rebif is a 3 times a week shot and the shot goes into the fatty tisue just under the skin. The flu symptoms were worse at first but left almost completely after a few months. Last year I tried to return to work. I missed quite a few shots and the flu symptoms came back including this time extreme eye pain.
Avatar f tn I have been on Rebif for four months now, and I am not going to do another shot, I can't handle the side effects. I've tried premedicating and nothing seems to work. How many of you are in the same situation? and what did you do?
Avatar f tn I am on Rebif. I have had reactions to the shot only twice. Both times it was flu like with chills. It doesn't happen often but ...I had decided even if I had the reaction each time? I would continue taking it. I want that 33% chance of not having another attack! I take Advil an hour before. I make sure to massage the shot site a few minutes and ice each time. It all helps.
1489159 tn?1288657429 I will probably have some new doubts about Rebif once i get the first shot and I really hope find some answers here . Thanks!
Avatar f tn I did some research on a more in-depth medical aspect and find no bad interaction with Rebif and Aspirin. In fact the swedish.org clearing shows in its rebif instructions that one can take up to 650mg of aspirin every 6 hours for relief from flu like symptoms. Perhaps you just got a weird reaction this time. I sometimes get a bad one from my Tysabri, for example, my last one was accompanied by a headache that lasted almost 24 hrs and then went away. But all others had been ok.
Avatar f tn I get a flu shot every year and had all of childhood vaccinatiins so this whole thing was a surprise for me to be dealing with now. It hadn't occurred to me that this could cause a flare up so I am going to be sure to get adequate sleep just in case.
Avatar f tn I remember when I was on Rebif, I had the same issue, and Ibuprofen with the shot at bedtime did the trick. I took the Ibuprofen again in the morning, and by 10 am, I was feeling normal. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!
1983221 tn?1333506185 t go away after being off the Copaxone we decided the two were unrelated and I started taking Copaxone again, last night was my first injection after the break. My question is - last night I woke up feeling like I had the flu, I was sweating, ached all over and had a massive headache. I know these are side effects of the interferons but has anyone had this while on Copaxone? I had no reaction like this the first few weeks I took Copaxone.
Avatar f tn I took my first shot of Rebif today. I gave myself the shot and i thought this is great no stinging, no redness, no lump like i had with Copaxone. Then WHAM!!!! I had abdominal pain about an hour after the shot it lasted for about 6hrs The only thing i could compare it to was a 6hr nonstop labor pain. We will see what happens Monday when i take the next shot. Does anyone else get this abdominal pain on Rebif.
233622 tn?1279334905 I believe the muscle acheness is from the Avonex. The day that I do the injection I feel like I have to keep stretching my legs nonstop and they just ache. After the other "flu like symptoms"end so does the achness and problems with my legs.(unless I have a flare up).I wish you the best!!
9264354 tn?1408743148 I never made it up to the full dose which may explain why I never experienced flu like symptoms. The shot itself was painless with no site reaction. I switched to Copaxone and was on it for six years. The shot itself hurt quite a lot at the beginning but over time this diminished significantly. The site reactions were bad at first: large, quarter sized welts and lumps. These also disminished greatly over time. Copaxone doesn't elevate liver enzymes nor cause flu like symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hi Sarah, My hubby feels the same way as you about not taking the flu shot! I don't believe the flu shot is required for Gilenya anyway.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I STILL HAVE THE 10 SECONDS OF BURNING AFTER THE SHOT-BUT JUST RUB IT AFTER AND THAT HELPS.I ALSO TAKE 2 RR TYELNOL A HALF HOUR BEFORE THE SHOT AND DO THE SHOT RIGHT WHEN I GET INTO BED AT 10 PM.
1710955 tn?1309446473 In a couple of weeks I'm making the switch. Not looking fwd to the flu like sx. Any Rebif users out there that have a few tricks to the trade?
